  1. Isn't that what we tell all the dermatologists who we see, now? "Sooo, it all started when..." blah blah blah. So my story sounds a lot like what I've already heard so many times on this site. I'm 25, female, and have battled acne on and off since middle school. In high school, proactiv controlled it somewhat so that it was manageable. But my freshman year in college my periods went crazy, I got ovarian cysts, and my skin opened up a can of whop ass on me. Proactiv was no match for th
  2. Thought I'd give a short little update on my progress. I was on Epuris from November 2014 until mid-February 2015. I stopped my treatment about 20 days before I was supposed to, because I just couldn't do it anymore. My mental state was just not... the best during these months. It was probably unrelated to the medication, but I believe that the medication may have just topped it all off. Anyway, as per my last post, I'm in such a better place. You'd be surprised how much happier you are whe
  3. (So i dropped off my prescription quite late so i wasnt able to have an actually "day 1" of using the three products. ) btw if you're wondering on how my skin is (oily) and was, i made another blog entry first night: -used bianca for the first time, took minocycline (100mg once a day before bedtime) for the first time -bianca had no stinging or redness or itchiness. the texture was surprising to me, it was a clear runny gel consistency. -after an hour i applied neutrogena oil-free mo
  4. Okay so - I wanted to share some before pictures. This is when I had hit my breaking point... I would have seriously burned off my face if it meant a beautiful new one would magically appear. I had stopped going to the dermatologist because the one I was seeing wouldn't believe me when I said everything I was dealing with on my face was totally hormonal and none of the stuff I had was working. I had been seeing her for about a year and a half. LUCKILY I found someone else but anyway... here's th

    Day 1

I decided to start this blog because my acne has returned. Four years of clear beautiful skin after accutane here I am again. I wish I wasn't part of that 20% that relapses after taking 5 month of claravis . I started this long acne journey in 2011 after using proactive for years I stopped using it and hell broke loose. I saw my first dermatologist , he prescribed me Retin A at night , Bactrim once a day , and benzoyl peroxide wash in the morning. That worked pretty nice until I stopped taking
  6. Saw my new dermatologist yesterday--she's pretty cool. Very direct. We're trying 3 new things: 1. Cutting more foods out of my diet. (Noooooooooooo!!!!). Now I am not eating anything with gluten, dairy, or soy, plus no high glycemic index foods, plus no using most common cooking oils. Here's to gnawing on lettuce and my own tears. 2. I'm getting more blood testing done, with someone new to interpret the results. Apparently I may have........well, a lot of things I can't pronounce.
  7. I still have a good amount of blocked pores and inflammation. My Dr upped my dose to 80mg Solodyn and 5% tretinoin (Atralin) and added Aczone (morning cream) to my regimen. I've read good things about to Aczone, and my doctor said I should see good results in about 3 to 4 weeks with this new regimen. I am excited to see how things go. *Fingers crossed!*
  8. Hi guys. I keep getting new pimples!! At least they're not really bad ones, not nodular or anything. Just whiteheads (closed comedones). I always have little blackheads (closed comedones) on my nose and chin. So I've been reading about The Regimen and I really like the Product Guide. It's really helpful. I looked online at some of the ingredients in some products I'd been using that I had suspicions about, and of course they had ingredients that clog pores! I've been cleaning out my bathroo
  9. First off, this is a blog to track my personal progress as I'm sick of writing it in different journals and losing it...also I'm hoping to come to some insights from others along the way. I'm trying to figure out the cause of my acne which I feel is next to impossible, but I do think I can maybe figure out what things make it better and worse. For that reason I may also include diet information and what day of my cycle I'm on. Sorry if that is too personal for you but this is kind of an experi
  10. So I have pretty moderate acne and I was prescribed Tretinoin (.05%) and Aczone (5%). I was advised to use the Aczone twice a day and Aczone on top of tretinoin every night. Ive been doing some research about the combination of the two medications and I've seen varying different answers, some say use Aczone on top of Tretinoin but others say use Tretinoin on top of Aczone so Im not sure what to do. Im also unsure of when/how to incorporate my moisturizer in this process. My dermatologist suggest

It's mostly clear, fewer pimples and less severe, but the few I do have are large, red but not pustules. No current cysts, 2 blemishes on my left cheek, 1 blemish on my forehead. Healing marks between my eyebrows, right cheek, and chin. Red marks are fading from the Deming gel. What I'm doing right now, the diet and supplements is something I'd be doing if it helped my acne or not: Diet- Mostly Vegan (except for supplements), gluten-free, avoid soy, peanuts, citrus, and avoiding IgG re
  12. I was just given aczone 7.5 gel and differin 0.1 cream to use. I've been on differin 0.3 gel for a little over 2 months. How should I use the differin and aczone, should aczone be in the morning and differin at night, or both at night? Will downgrading from 0.3 gel to 0.1 cream give me another IB phase?
  13. I have used many different acne medications over the years- epiduo, Retin A, solvere gel (benzoyl peroxide), aczone (in 2 different concentrations), and now, differin. I have also been in the past on doxycycline (only for a few months) along with using topical treatments, and my dermatologist is now having me take niacinamide twice a day in addition to using aczone (7.5%) and differin (0.3%). I tend to get cysts on my chin and forehead, as well as occasionally in between my eyebrows and on my ch
  14. From the album: Ziana, Solodyn, Aczone. (& OCPs)

Like I mentioned before, my break-outs were calmed down before I started therapy-- I was just suffering with the hyperpigmentation aftermath from the break-out-of-the-century. So, these new break-outs this week are a bit unusual. It leads me to think that it is part of the initial "purging." I really hope so because it hasn't been terrible. However, if you notice in the long picture, I started to get some tiny white pustules on my chest. I don't have body acne, and this is certainly not acn
  15. From the album: Doxycycline Progress

Doxycycline ended up being ineffective for my cystic acne. My acne was cured using a combination of epidou, aczone, and birth control. There was pretty major scarring, but derm says it should fade with time and exfoliation.
  16. From the album: retin-a micro: worth the wait? I took a picture of my face every week for 4 months

When I first started writing this post at the beginning of the summer, I was in the throes of the initial breakout caused by starting topical retinoids. Hyper-keratinized plugs and god-knows-what-else built up in my pores, and now the retinoid was forcing it out. My face erupted in multiple places with huge, swollen bumps. As each lesion resolved, 2or 3 new ones would begin forming on skin still red and tender from the previous weeks breakout. The only thing keeping me sane was this: I have a pr

  17. From the album: retin-a micro: worth the wait? I took a picture of my face every week for 4 months

Other than the one bright red spot on my right cheek where I foolishly picked and squeezed, the doxycycline has really brought a lot of the inflammation down. There's still a lot of closed comedones to purge, but if my previous breakout is any indication, the worst is soon to be over. -- When I first started writing this post at the beginning of the summer, I was in the throes of the initial breakout caused by starting topical retinoids. 19. I use Aczone (dapsone gel) in the morning and Ziana (clindamycine + tretinion ) at night. How do I use Glycolic acid and how often with combination of my topical routine? Like how do I switch it around with a BHA. Also I am thinking of using ACV as a toner , maybe later but for right now I want to use a BHA and if my skin responds well then possible use AHA ( I'm planning on using Paula's choice Pore Perfecting BHA exfoliant 2% ) heard good things about this BHA and it contains Green tea which
  20. So a little backround, I am an 18 y/o female that has had mild yet consistant acne for the past 4 years. I don't scar but I can have some hyperpigmentation. I had a bad breakout a couple months ago so I went on the regimen and made a derm appointment. I've been on the regimen for about 6-7 weeks now and I have seen much improvement but I decided to go to my derm anyway. She perscribed aczone and epiduo. Currently I am mainly getting clogged pores every couple days that eventually turn into smal
  21. I use Aczone (dapsone gel) in the morning and Ziana (clindamycine + tretinion ) at night. How do I use Glycolic acid and how often with combination of my topical routine? I have some acne flaring up since I am weaning off with Oracea 40 mg because I have been on the antibiotic (Doxycycline Hyclate 100mg) treatment since August 2015. I told my derma , I think its time to get off it because antibiotic for even a short period can do a lot of damage healthwise. So since weaning off my acne is sorta
  22. Hello everyone! Im gonna try to keep this intro short. 1.5 years ago my cystic acne returned after I thought that it was under control with minocycline and drug store topical acne treatments. To tackle the cystic acne, my derm put my on doxycycline and epiduo. The combo worked pretty well (I'd give my skin an 8/10 after 3 months on this regimen). However antibiotics are not a long-term medication so after 6 months of full dosage, I weaned myself off of the doxycycline (over the course of 6
  23. Anyone who is/has been on these two medications, please tell me how your experience was! I just finished week two and my skin is definitely more dry, but it's not too bad because I do moisturize and that helps. I have noticed a few new small pimples and I know that could be the initial breakout because it's pushing all the bumps under my skin, through. Just wondering what I should expect based on your experiences? if it's worth it to stick through. I never had acne growing up, just recently I s
