  1. hi! looking to see if anyone has a similar story... i had mild acne as a teen and took yaz(generic brand) and it helped immediately!! it was a miracle and i took it up until 2017 because i feel like it made me depressed/gained weight. once i got off it i went from 120 to 105 pounds. i had mild acne nbd for about a year and a half but for the most part my skin was perfectly clear. this past march (24 years old now) my skin broke out horrifically (worse than i’ve ever experienced). it’s
  2. I have been taking isotretinoin in a relatively low dosage for almost four months. The breakouts seem to have stopped, I hope they won't return. However, my nose is full of blackheads, and milia don't seem to go away either. Can I expect those to be helped, or it's almost sure that if so far it hasn't worked for them, I will not in the future either.
  3. I believe wholeheartedly that Dan's regimen should be the new gold standard or "first line defense" treatment recommendation for/from all dermatologist nation wide. Licensed practicing physicians are so quick to turn to oral antibiotics for a first line treatment defense. Even in the age of antibiotic resistance.. yet still commonly and more than not, oral antibiotics such as doxycycline, tetracycline, etc etc are quite often prescribed for a "quick fix" to acne. However the side effects exponen
  4. I've been using tretinoin for over 8 months now and have gone through my purge phase already. However, I was in Florida for a week and took a break from using it. If I start back up, will I purge again? How long of a break can you take without having to go through the purging phase again?
  5. hi everyone .. I'm a 15 year old girl with moderate-severe acne and I've had acne since I was around 11. I turned 15 last august so am around 15 and a half now. nothing and I mean NOTHING got rid of my acne over these years, I literally tried everything, so I went to a derm and asked what I could do. he offered me Accutane. obviously at first I was a bit sceptical about going for it because of all the reviews, but then I was so desperate for my acne to go away that I figured i'd try everything.
  6. So I've been going to the dermatologist for a while now, and I have been purchasing their in office acne products alongside the prescription medicine that they prescribed me. The only issue with the products they sell to me is that they are expensive. They've been charging me over $100 for a cleanser and a triple antioxidant cream. I was wondering I I could just get an in-store acne treatment and use it alongside the prescription medicine for the same results?
  7. So I stopped using accutane 6 months ago and my skin is clear i just have some whitehead on my nose sometimes but thats not really bad , but i’m st Really scared when i want to eat something unhealthy, like today i ate a chocolate and i feel really guilty about it i’m scared that my acne would come back now that i’m off accutane So can you eat whatever you want after you off of accutane or still you need to be careful?
  8. Does anyone have any suggestions on properly putting prescription acne medication on the back? It's so easy to mess areas. Thanks
  9. I am planning to stop taking birth control soon, and I'm worried about my skin breaking out like crazy. Before starting the bc Loryna, my skin never had huge cystic breakouts, and I only got a few pimples on my forehead and on my cheeks before my period. I did not start birth control to help with acne, but ever since I have started bc, I have had more severe acne. Becuase I did not specifically start bc to help with acne problems in the first place, am I at risk for developing
  10. I am finally clearing up with Minocycline 100mg prescription and benzoyl peroxide 5%. Been using it for a month both together and its starting to show. The problem is I have horrible red marks all over my face (not scars but reddish even blueish marks) and I know aloe vera really helps with this. My question is how should I implement it into my daily routine? In the morning i wash my face with a light cleanser then put on benzoyl peroxide and leave it for 10 minutes, after that I wash it off and
  11. About a month ago I went to get a facial at a salon. They did a TERRIBLE job to say the least. I’ve always had pimples now and then come and go but NEVER an acne issue and never something like this before. Ever since the painful facial my skin has been reacting in new pustules every single day on my cheeks, chin, and forehead. I’ve never experienced this and it just keeps coming daily and doesn’t go away. What do I do? I’m so desperate I’ve been crying because I feel hopeless and like my skin wi
  12. Hi! I'm dealing with severe acne since I was 13. 7 years later I have tried everything on the market for acne. I've also taken several antibiotics for acne, and tried many topical creams and nothing worked. The only thing that is left for me to try is isotretinoin. I was so happy when I heard about it, thinking it would cure my acne for good. But after reading about isotretinoin online, I have found out that it contains soya oil, and that patients who are allergic to nuts and soya can't take thi
  13. I took Accutane a year ago and it cleared my skin beautifully. However, around a year later, I am noticing that my acne is relapsing and it is getting back to the state it was before. I weigh 53kg and calculated that my cumulative dosage was 5880mg back when I took Accutane. Is my acne relapsing because I didn't take enough Accutane? What is the minimum dosage I should be on to maximise the chances of clearing my acne permanently? I am considering a 2nd round. Please help! Thank you!
  14. So as y’all are very aware I have acne scars from my acne that’s just about gone a month ago. I wanted to ask people if I should leave it to heal on it’s own or if I should use this roactuane gel as prescribed by my doctor just I don’t want another flare up before school so idk. Should I just leave it? I’ll post some photos of my face down below so you can see what it looks like.
  15. Hi im wondering if anyone can help me, I finished my isotretinoin course around 3 months ago and I'm still stuck with red marks from past breakouts, I still get one or two actives every so often but nothing to what it once was. im need some advice on what to do for the pie/pih I'm currently dealing with, I have been using some zinc and niacinamide serum along with some vitamin c but it's not really doing much. I'll attach some photos if I can, they look quite red as I've just showered
  16. My acne story started about 20 years ago. At first it was teenage acne that I treated with advertised product - ointment with 20% azelaic acid. It was semi OK - nothing too special, but it worked reasonably well and I do not remember bigger issues, apart of dehydration, and that it did not remove everything totally. Begin age 18: I started uni and tried the birth control pills. Did nothing for acne, but some nasty side effects. Dropped. Still semi reasonable - not clear skin, but not too ba
  17. Should I pop this or just leave it ? its not going away, currently on the acne.org regemine started 2 days ago. Thanks
  18. Hi guys, So I have found out that if I eat all sorts of chocolade, I get acne on and around my nose, which is fine by me (I stop eating it) I also noticed whenever I drink milk, I get acne on my chin. When I eat a protein bar, I get acne above my lip. These are all avoidable for me and I can live with it. But the problem is that I get persistent acne on my cheeks only! I am allergic to house dust mite, so I change my pillow cases and bed cases regurarly. They are not cysts or pi
  19. Hi everyone! So this is my first post here on acne.org. I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences! I've basically had moderate but persistent acne, on my face, back and chest, since the age of 11 and have tried everything out there - nothing worked. Finally last November (when I was 17) I began my treatment of Accutane; I was put on 20mg for the 1st month, 40mg for 2nd month and 50mg for the final 3 months (I weigh 52kg). Accutane was a miracle and my skin was clear
  20. Has anyone used the Aveeno daily moisturiser on their faces? If so what are your thoughts? Ive just started new acne treatment from my dermatologist that sheds/flakes my skin, so I need a good moisturiser (that isn't oily and won't cause me to break out). Im trying to avoid moisturisers with mineral oil in - Aveeno does not list it as an ingredient. Thanks,
  21. Hey, so I,ve been dealing with light acne since Im 14, Im 19 now and decided to go to the dermatologist about a month ago to just get over with acne and some little red marks, since I moved to a new city I had a really really bad breakout, like never before, so she prescribed me doxycycline 100 mg once a day and Retin A 0.025% every night, and sunblock every time I go out... so far I have not seen any improvements, my acne just got worse (maybe it is retin-a purge? since Im starting week 4) I ha
  22. Some general tips I know that have worked for me are: Drink a lot more water throughout the day, it makes you feel good and your skin feel fresh! Don’t touch your face, your hands are probably dirty and you are putting that on your face! Watch what you eat. Ideally you need to stay away from sugar, dairy and processed foods because they clog your pores and are bad for your health in general! Do some sort of physical activity, it’s not only good for your face but it is also go
  23. 4 Basic causes of Acne (and some types of Rosacea) - make sure your dermatologist tests you to verify which type you have. The treatment for each type is completely different. Correct diagnosis of the cause is important to clear the skin condition. Demodex skin mites are the most under-diagnosed cause of acne for people of all ages. Some more enlightened dermatologists will test for the mites. Many old school dermatologists were taught in school, that the mites were harmless. As such man

  25. I’ve always had very clear skin but for about a year and a half now I’ve developed these red looking bumps on my face, they’re kind of raised, mostly flat, they don’t itch or anything and they don’t seem like pimples. It also seems like it’s undernesth my skin. Someone told me it’s the bacteria that causes acne on my face but they recommened me a $100+ product. I’ve switched my products time and time again, I use home remedies, they won’t go away. People tell me it could be due to stress? But I’
