  1. Hey guys! I am on about week 7 of 10 mg a day. Very low dose.. and I have still had all these comedones surfacing, its nuts!! Most of them aren't inflamed, but about one at a time will become a little inflamed. Some of them surfaced early on and have stayed there for weeks as tiny whitish bumps. It is impossible to extract the junk by stretching the pore or anything, and I dont want to pick at the skin since it is so sensitive on accutane right now. How is the Paulas Choice BHA working f
  2. Welcome to my blog! I will be updating this frequently as I tell you all about my Accutane journey- 10 mg/day Here is a little background on myself: 23 yr old F, have had acne since I was 12ish, been on every antibiotic (keflex, doxycyclin, tetracyclin, minocyclin, bactrim), topical (benzaclin, differin, duac, azelex, retin-a), and Accutane. About 2.5 years ago I took Accutane at 60 mg-80 mg a day for moderately severe acne that was very persistant. For the first 8 months after finishing my 5
  3. It is different for girls because we have to take pregnancy tests. I also took Accutane before, about 2 years ago, and since then the laws are much stricter, believe it or not! You will take a pregnancy test at your appointment and get all the info and forms, and then you will see your derm again 30-60 days after that. At this second appointment you again will take a pregnancy test, and then you can go on Accutane.. derm needs to have 2 negative preg tests first. Even if you're a virgin or s
  4. to those of you who replied: how severe was your acne before accutane? and was it mostly whiteheads/papules/cysts ? I think mine would be classified as mild, sometimes moderate, but soo stubborn! Just interested to see if maybe people with milder acne don't have a bad IB ?
  5. Thanks for all your replies! I've decided to keep using topicals only once a day, until my skin starts to show signs of dryness, then I will stop. Frustrated Jones- Nice to have someone else in the same boat! And I find the same thing happens when I use BP on whiteheads- try Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque as a spot treatment overnight- I did this just last night and it literally zapped and erased a whole bunch of whiteheads! Truckg- I don't live in CA so I can't help you with finding a der
  6. I am 22 and have mild but persistant acne. I previously took 5 months of 60-80mg Accutane per day when I had more severe acne. The acne has returned but is much milder, so I decided to try a low dose, because I had difficulty dealing with the side effects last time. I have just started taking 10 mg Accutane per day and have some questions that hopefully some of you can answer if you have been in a similar situation: Does anyone have any experience with taking low doses of Accutane? How b
  7. Hi! Just wanted to drop in and give you some hope- I went on Accutane about 3 years ago ( I was 19). I had acne since I was probably 12 or so.. and went on a 5 month course of Accutane. At the end of the 5th month, I still had breakouts. BUT a month after going off of Accutane, my skin was crystal clear. I don't know why it worked out like that, but it just goes to show that Accutane works with people differently. Though now 3 years later I suffer from breakouts around my period that hur
  8. I have never been on Spiro in combination with a Birth control with levonorgestrel BUT.. I was on Seasonique (which has high levels of levonorgestrel) and it made my skin AWFUL. I was on minocycline (antibiotic) at the same time and my skin was still terrible- cystic, painful hormonal acne all the time. I will never go on a birth control with levonorgestrel again and I would advise you not to! There are plenty of other birth controls that dont have it, like Ortho Tri Cyclen, and you would pro
  9. Has anyone ever heard of using drawing salve on a pimple that is under-the-surface? I read that the drawing salve can help draw out the infection or impurities that are causing the pimple and help it disappear pretty fast I just bought Prid Drawing Salve and am wondering if anyone has tried this?
  10. i use azelaic acid (azelex)- not BP because it is too harsh for my skin
  11. I have these teeny tiny whiteheads on my chin and mouth area.. they are so small they look like little clogged pores. How do you guys get rid of them? I don't want to squeeze them or extract them for fear of them becoming bigger and inflamed.
  12. when i was on accutane 2 years ago i had dry skin and lips. concentration didn't seem to be affected at all whatsoever, but everybody is different. i have a question about the IB i'm on minocycline (antibiotic) and azelex (topical) and have a derm appointment wednesday... have already taken a pregnancy test and everything in order to go on accutane wed if my derm prescribes it. should i keep using the azelex and minocycline for the first few weeks im on accutane? i dont want an initial break
  13. i've been on minocycline for a few months now.. My derm prescribed it to me specifically for my inflamed/cystic acne.. i havent noticed it improving clogged pores at all. since its an antibiotic though, i bet it helps with all types of acne. I just know my derm said it is particularly good with hormonal cystic acne. If you want a really effective topical try azelex (azelaic acid)!!! I've tried everything under the sun, including accutane about 2 years ago, and every topical- differin, benza
