  1. Benzoyl Peroxide is a single molecule - there aren't any special ingredients. The only ingredient is Benzoyl Peroxide. If you get it in a gel, it will probably also contain water and geling agents. The molecule it's self should act as an antiseptic as it's a peroxide. However, there are better antiseptics available than peroxides. As I've said in a recent post, the UK governement's cosmetics act now suggests you avoid skin contact with Benzoyl Peroxide.
  2. People online will be saying that BP causes skin cancer because it is a molecule containing specific subunits called Benzene rings - six carbons arranged into a circle shape. Benzene on it's own is a carcinogen - a cancer causing chemical - but BP is chemically quite different from Benzene alone. Saying BP causes cancer is really something that needs a lot of support, which, I'm sure, they didn't offer. However, since it contains Benzene rings, it might be a good place to look first. Chemistr
  3. The increase in the thickness of the oils being secreted as sweat is partly controlled by chemicals called Androgens. Androgens are metabolites of Testosterone. Guys usually have much higher Testosterone levels than gurls. But girls also produce Testosterone, in smaller amounts, as a way to control muscle growth and regulated other biochemical processes. Testosterone levels in girls usually begin splitting away from those found in guys, at a very rapid rate, during their teens. Instead, gir
  4. Benzoyl Peroxide is like Hydrogen Peroxide - It's a peroxide! Hydrogen Peroxide is a molecule of water with an extra hydrogen attached. The two Oxygens in the molecule would rather that the extra Hydrogen wasn't there - because it makes the molecule less stable. So they get rid of it - The molecule decomposes. This produces Oxygen as O2 bubbles and pure water. Peroxides produce a result due to the process of Oxygen liberation. The Oxygen is very reactive as it is released and it tries to bin
  5. i had a bad cold once and was taking some meds. Didn't have a breakout that week - luckily that was prom week too. I'm guess the cold took out my immune system or the meds stopped the infection on my face
