  1. Hello. I started this log 2-3 years ago and forgot to update in over a year. When your skin becomes clear, you stop obsessing and don't visit the acne logs like you used to. Anyway, it's been a little over two years since I've been on spiro. I'm on 100mg of spiro daily. I can't remember the last time I had a huge zit to worry about, it seems like a distant memory. I don't wear makeup anymore, ever. I used retin-a and tazorac when I first started spiro since I had many painful hormonal zits bu
  2. Week 77 Update (Week 53 on Spiro & Taz): Happy New Year! This is the first year in ages where I've started the new year with good skin! I just realized that I have been on spiro for over a year! I started taking spiro last january. I remember thinking last year, is this going to work? I really hoped that it would and it did! I want to use this time to reflect back and hopefully ease some fears of anyone who is just starting to take spiro or considering it. My advice is to give it at least
  3. Week 75 Update (Week 51 on Spiro & Taz): I thought I would post before the year is over. I'm happy to report that my skin is still doing great. Since last time I posted, I haven't had any major chin zits or any other major zits in general on my face. The spiro has made a huge difference for me.. it puts no doubt in my mind that my acne was largely hormonal. All the cleansers and creams just did not work for me after I reached my mid-twenties.. even taz only worked on the clogged pores, it n
  4. Week 68 Update (Week 44 on Spiro & Taz): I forgot to post in almost a month. Been extremely busy, too busy to worry about my skin everyday. I did go to my derm for my checkup and she remarked that I was doing great. She wrote me another prescription for spiro 100mg. I guess I will be on this course for awhile. Anyway, the chin zit had cleared up by the time I saw my derm but now it's been 4 weeks and I have another big bump on my chin. It's really weird though because it's just a big hard
  5. Week 64 Update (Week 40 on Spiro & Taz): I guess with all the stress of a new job, new apartment, relationship issues, and having my period has caused a big zit on my right chin! Hopefully it goes away soon as I haven't gotten a big zit anywhere on my face for a long while. I've been slacking on taking care of my skin.. sometimes even going 5 days without putting on tazorac gel because I'm too tired when I get home late at night. I'm seeing the derm for a checkup in about 2 weeks. In the
  6. Week 62 Update (Week 38 on Spiro & Taz): Wow. It's been 9 months already. I've been pretty busy with a new job lately so haven't had time to update last week. The little zits on my forehead from the hike a couple of weeks ago have cleared so that confirms the hat theory since when I went hiking again without wearing the hat, the little forehead zits did not appear. I haven't had a major zit in so long.. but dealing with slightly drier skin issues due to fall coming with less humidity. I sti
  7. Hi Eddy If, I went from tazorac cream .05% to tazorac gel .05% earlier this year at my derm's recommendation. I am very happy with the .05 gel and will stick with it as it is plenty strong enough for me. I use it every 3-4 nights and I still peel to this day even though I only leave it on for 30ms. I'm also taking spiro 100mg which did wonders for my skin in combination with the tazorac gel. My t-zone is no longer an oil pit thanks to the spiro.
  8. Week 60 Update (Week 36 on Spiro & Taz): A mosquito came in the other night (I saw it on the wall right near my bed) and bit me everywhere.. I have bites on my feet, legs, back, arms, and FACE. Uggh! I have two-three bites on my forehead. I knew something was weird when my forehead was strangely itchy when I woke up this morning. I've been scratching everywhere on my body but have completely avoided scratching my forehead.. lots of willpower at first since it's so darn itchy. What worked th
  9. Hi Misslmh, Actually, I haven't used Duac in over a year. While it worked for me initially, I found that the benzoyl peroxide was too harsh for my skin- My skin was dry and flaky yet oily at the same time. Also, the dry skin caused by the duac would make my face itch and get red quickly. I currently use tazorac gel .05% and spiro 100mg.. I've been on this program for about 8 months and my skin is basically perfect.. My derm and I have finally found a solution that works consistently for me. A
  10. Week 58 Update (Week 34 on Spiro & Taz): I really cannot believe the difference spiro has made in my skin. Who knew that increasing the dosage from 50mg to 100mg would be the magic bullet. It's been 3.5 weeks since my derm upped my dosage and I have not had a single major pimple since then. My skin is drastically less oilier, even in my nose, which has always been a chronic oily area for me. I can go an entire day without blotting- Craziness! And my stubborn chin has finally cleared up 100%
  11. Week 57 Update (Week 33 on Spiro & Taz): My derm increased my dosage of spiro from 50mg to 100mg about 2-3 weeks ago and my skin just continues to get better and better. I use the taz gel pretty infrequently now, about every 3 nights. I cannot believe the progress my chin has made just by the upped dosage of spiro. Now I feel like I don't have to focus on my skin so much.. I don't think I have a single zit on my face right now. Can't believe this is working so well!
  12. Week 56 Update (Week 32 on Spiro & Taz): It's been about a week and a half since I've been taking my upped dose of spiro from 50mg to 100mg. You know what? My chin is doing a lot better. My skin is looking great these days- I am wearing no makeup whatsoever.. not even pimple cream. I went to the beach this past weekend and wasn't paranoid about my skin. I got a slight tan even though I put some sunblock on my face. Lately, I've been real lazy due to summer heat and I haven't been washing
  13. I saw the derm the other day for my scheduled follow-up. Because I am taking spiro, I have to see her every 3 months to make sure nothing is wrong with my blood tests. It went very well. I feel like the more I see my derm, the more we get to know each other and develop our patient-doctor relationship. I felt very frustrated when I first went to my derm due to many things such as being embarrassed about acne, not knowing what all these medications would do, and if they would work. In any event,
  14. Week 54 Update (Week 30 on Spiro & Taz): I guess I forgot to update last week. It's been 7 months since I started spiro and taz. My skin has been really good except for my chin. Still getting one or two small spots on my chin while the rest of my skin is clear. My forehead is perfectly clear right now and the old red marks finally faded away. I'm seeing my derm tomorrow and while my regimen is keeping me about 95% clear, I would like maybe a small bump up in my spiro to take care of these
  15. Week 52 Update (Week 28 on Spiro & Taz): It's been over 6 months and my skin is still pretty good. For my summer routine, I've basically eliminated it down to the basics. I moisturize right after I shower and then put murad acne spot treatment on any pimple or red mark. That's pretty much it.. I've stopped using the OC gel because I feel like my skin is not as oily as before.. even my uber shiny nose is a little less oiler. Not sure if this is from the spiro. And no concealer or makeup or p
