I am thinking about cutting meat from my diet, for all kinds of reasons (health, ethical, environmental, spiritual). I was a vegetarian in college, but had trouble keeping it up afterwards. Now that I am noticing specific (and very positive) changes in my skin while on a gluten-free diet, I am wondering how meat impacts skin. I havent done any research yet, so I figured I would start by asking questions here: 1. Is a gluten-free (and almost dairy free) diet enough to keep my skin clear for the

Nope. But some dairy products, like ice cream, use gluten as a thickening, binding, or flavoring agent. Check the ingredients or, better yet, GOOGLE the product: Breyers + gluten. You will find that Breyers is generally gluten free, but a few products might contain gluten. ~J-Dog

First...THANKS for the info/links. Very helpful. ) I avoid everything (except nuts, etc. that are packaged in a non-dedicated facility). I have to: From original post: A couple of weeks ago, I ate a piece of Godiva chocolate with gluten as a "natural flavor": after fully digesting this piece (after not having had gluten for about 2 weeks), I experienced electric shock-like feelings in my stomach, the beginnings of a major asthma attack, and a massive headache with electric-shock lik

Foods and Personal Items to AVOID: beer and other grain-based alcohol products (gluten-free beer is available) bouillons and broths breading (such as the coating on breaded chicken cutlets, etc.) brown rice syrup (frequently made from barley) cake flour (made from wheat) caramel color (occasionally made from barley) communion wafers potato chips (most have gluten ON them) couscous creamed or breaded vegetables dextrin (a rare ingredient, which may be made from wheat; maltod

I have suffered from acne for years. I have tried Differin, antibiotics, topical remedies. I have always been leary of any drug but especially a powerful one like Accutane. There has got to be another way, I have always said to myself. So, I finally went to a holistic naturopath. He recommended eliminating gluten (and reducing or eliminating dairy). After talking to him, I did some research. If you Google "Gluten + Acne," some great info will come up. There is a webpage created by some

As recommended by my holistic naturopath, I have been on a gluten-free diet for about a month. (Gluten is a protein that causes inflammation, including inflammed acne and many other problems, in sensitive people.) Apparently, it takes 3-6 months to experience the full effects of a gluten-free diet, but I noticed changes within days. My skin cleared up! However, I experienced some flare-ups during pms/my period, but the Proactiv worked immediately, now that my skin is no longer inflammed becau

I agree. It is easy. Especially when the gluten-free diet works. It really does. I feel great. My entire body works so much better from head to toe. Inflammation is never a good thing. There is a direct link between inflammation and cancer, so people really need to eliminate all foods and other substances that cause inflammation.

Turmeric (in capsule) Ginger Sunflower seeds Have you tried eliminating gluten (which causes inflammation in sensitive people) and dairy? Are you eating meat? Stick with lean meats (chicken and fish) or eliminate all together. Leafy green veggies are great for everything.

ARE PEOPLE WITHOUT ACNE,JUST INTERNALLY BUILT BETTER?

Hi, Thanks for being so honest. We have all thought this before, I'm sure. I know I have. I used to blame genetics all the time. But with the help of my holistic naturopath, I have become wiser. I am not genetically challenged in general. I am physically incapable of digesting and processing gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and some oats products. Gluten causes me a lot of problems, including acne. Once I figured out I was gluten-sensitive and decided to eliminate gluten -
Hi A, I did not get tested. My holistic naturopath did not recommend it because he does not think I have full-blown celiac. I just did an elimination diet--and it worked. And I will never eat gluten again because I am sensitive (see info in my post about my reaction to an accidental small dose of gluten in a piece of chocolate). Here is the thing: Often, tests come back negative for gluten-sensitivity. And wheat allergy tests (different from sensitivity/intolerance) often do not revea

Hi, If you are truly gluten-sensitive then eating gluten-filled cereal could be DANGEROUS!! Do you have other health problems (no need to answer). If you do, you might want to go to a holistic naturopath, which is what I did. He gave me info on how to eat gluten-free completely. There is so much info online, though. But going to the naturopath was a real boost for me. It is helping me to stay on track. But I have to. I am doing it not simply to prevent acne but to achieve optimal heal

I started feeling better overall within days. My skin cleared up within days. I didnt have an asthma attack within days. It is truly amazing. I highly recommend it. I wouldnt eat gluten again if you paid me a million bucks! Bionaturae makes AWESOME gluten-free pasta (with rice, soy, and potatoe instead of wheat) in all the usual varieties (spaghetti, penne, etc). I like it better than brown rice pasta. I dont want my pasta to smell like rice when it is cooking. The brown rice pasta sm

acne diet/what foods can i actually consume?
J-Dog replied to bdonpowerlifter's topic in Diet & holistic health
I am avoiding gluten like the plague to prevent further acne flare-ups. Gluten is the protein found in wheat, rye, barley, and, possibly, oats. Google gluten + acne (and many other disorders and diseases). If you dont already know about gluten, you will be shocked! ~J-Dog -
Hello All, I am new here. I know Dan from college. Go Dan! This site is awesome. ) About 4 weeks ago, a holistic naturopath told me that I have a gluten sensitivity. I wish I had known about this problem from birth. I strongly believe my health would have been much better. In the past, I have had anemia, several areas of inflammation (eye, knee, bronchial), a thyroid goiter, asthma, depression/anxiety, and ACNE. Sounds scary, right? Well, my life has been very good in other ways, especi
