  1. Hey! Oh yeah, my skin was BAD for at least the first 8 weeks....like, really bad. What you're experiencing is totally normal! There is a long purge period, but I promise it will get better. It sucks at first but you just have to have faith! I use Neutrogena Fresh Foaming face wash, which is non-medicated, but my doctor also told me I could use BP with my Retin-A Micro....he said that the Retin-A actually makes BP work better (by keeping the pores more open, I guess?). I don't often use them tog
  2. Retin-A is more irritating, you have to wait a full 20-30 mins after washing your face before applying or else it soaks in and can make you REALLY irritated. Retin-A Micro is the exact same medicine, it is just formulated so that you can apply it right after washing your face, without as much irritation. It has some sort of "microsphere" technology that releases differently.
  3. I haven't checked in here for months, but I thought I'd write a quick post to let you all know that there is hope! I'm 26 and have tried everything, even Accutane (which worked for a couple years after finishing, then my acne came back). 8+ months ago I was prescribed Retin-A (cream), which I started at the lowest increment and worked up to the highest (0.1%). After re-evaluating my progress at 6 months, I was then switched to Retin-A Micro, and in gel form, same concentration. My skin is so muc
  4. I'm 26 and have been using Retin-A 0.025% for almost 8 weeks now. Everyone's skin is different, you may break out really bad, you may not. I have been having a bad time of it, have been breaking out bad since day 2 and it hasn't really improved yet...but that is not the case with everyone. I keep being told to stick with it, so I am. It's supposed to be good for your skin and plus, it's pretty much the best anti-aging solution out there aside from cosmetic surgery. So I figure it has to be doing
  5. I may be in the same boat as you soon - I'm going to make a doctor's appointment for next week sometime, I hope, and get an opinion. It's been 5.5 weeks and my skin has been horrible since the second day. I know it takes a long time to work, but if there is anything I can combine with it to help, I'll take it.
  6. Thanks for offering up your support and wisdom! I'm 5 1/2 weeks into Tretinoin .025% and my face looks so bad. I am still breaking out a lot, and I have many more red marks than I had before. The worst is all around my chin/mouth and lower cheeks. It's pretty terrible! I'm really trying to stick it out, since I have heard so many times to just give it time... about when would you say should I start seeing a real improvement? I'm going to try very hard to stick it out til the 8 week mark, then
  7. If Retin-A cream is pore-clogging, why do so many of us get prescribed it for acne? I was given tretinoin for acne purposes only and was prescribed the cream, not gel... what the heck?
  8. Thanks for sharing your story. I need the encouragement right now! I'm 3.5 weeks in (using 0.025% tretinoin cream) and my skin is breaking out really bad. Everything is coming to the surface and has been since day 2 pretty much... it's getting frustrating. My skin looks worse than when I started, that's for sure. I've been told by many people just to hang in there, though, so I'm trying just to cope! Good luck in the upcoming weeks!
  9. I'm on Day 4 (only...sigh) of using Retin-A and my skin is a lot worse than it was. I expected this, so I'm not terribly upset yet since it is so early in the game, but I'm wondering - the pimples are coming up so much faster than before, and becoming really ripe whiteheads VERY fast (the course of one day, it seems)...should I be gently releasing the whiteheads, or just leaving them completely alone and applying the Retin-A on top? Do they pop themselves or does the Retin-A just get rid of them
  10. Hey, how are you doing now? I just started Retin-A this week and my skin is soooo much worse already. I've heard over and over that this is normal though, so I'm going to try really hard to keep at it and try not to worry. I'm using 0.025% as well.
  11. Hey, I started Retin-A on the exact same day as you...started Wednesday and already I'm breaking out really bad! I have 4 or 5 new pimples and the ones I had lingering are looking worse. I hope this means the initial breakout period will go by fast?? Good luck to you!
