  1. This is simplified but what about accutane? IMO it works better for guys.
  2. My daughter has had acne for 16 years. I had it too and suffered horribly. She is completely controlled with generic Yasmin and 50 mg spironolactone. If she goes off the meds she breaks out. She took one course of accutane that did not go well. I was so disappointed for her. My dread now is when she goes off of her meds preparing for pregnancy. Then I'll need to post in the emotional threads! I'm hoping pregnancy is kind to her skin. It went both ways for me.
  3. It's nice to see a mom on here. My daughter's magic bullet was ocella and 50 mgs spironolactone. If she goes off of it she breaks out. If she stays on it she's clear. She goes off it a lot sigh. I wish we could find something else that works. Accutane did not work.
  4. My daughter started to clear immediately on Yasmin. Then when the spiro was added it only got better. She broke out terribly on ortho-tri-cyclen. She gave up after 5 months on it.
  5. Thank you. She's been on 3 weeks at 50 mgs. She's been on mostly since 06 though.
  6. Do any of you have recommendations for good thirst quenchers while on spiro. Other than water, of course. My daughter seems to have raging thirst even on 50 mgs. per day. Did I read Gatorade and/or Green Tea was helpful?
  7. What health concerns had her go off Yaz and spiro? I would say that Yaz and spiro were better for her than antibiotics and a low-dose estrogen BC that could make her acne worse because of its androgenic progesterone. Our insurance doesn't cover yaz or any generics. Her creatinine levels were off so she took herself off of spiro. I thought spiro would work with any bc pill. I also thought necon 1/35 was listed with the better ones. It has a higher estrogen content than some low dose pills.
  8. DD has been battling acne for 12 years. She had it under control with Yaz and spiro but went off due to health concerns. Within 5-6 months after stopping the meds she has full blown cystic acne once again (( I knew it would happen but she was hoping she had "grown out of it" and wouldn't listen to me. Now she is back on Doxy 100-200 mgs, necon 1/35 and 50 mgs. spiro. I think it's been 3 weeks back on spiro/doxy and probably 3 on the bc pill, but nothing much is going on in the way of improvement

  10. On the flip side. My daughter was on it for 6 years and did develop problems. I would urge you to be monitored while on it. She never was. All meds have side effects without exception. I do wish you well with it though because it's a miracle drug for acne.
  11. After being on spiro for 6 years she started developing an insane thirst. She could not drink enough water to quench her thirst. Then her creatinine levels registered that she was in stage 1 kidney failure so she quit it. I still don't get why that happened. But she is a dialysis nurse and decided that she did not risk it even if it meant her acne returned. Now she's back on the pill. The two months she was off of all meds she felt great. I think I will get her some B vitamins
  12. My daughter was on Yaz and spiro for years with great success. Then she decided to go off both for health reasons and, of course, broke out badly after about 4 months. So now she is back on bc pills trying to get her skin back. She has been on two different ones and they always seem to cause anxiety now. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to control anxiety symptoms or is that just impossible. She already takes anxiety meds and the doctor thinks she might have to increase the dosage
  13. She wants to ditch her oral meds for various reasons. The spiro is gone now with the result of more breakouts. I think she may have already ditched her bc pill. So I'm looking at this as a countermeasure to the inevitable. But her health comes first.
  14. Does anyone have any experience with Niapads?
