  1. so, when you guys went off of the minocycline, the scars and cuts that you had healed and went away as your ability to heal properly came back? Or did the minocycline result in acne scars or marks that have NEVER healed since? I am asking because I have notcied that cuts take longer to heal since ive been on mino, and yourt posts have got me kind of concerned about the marks from past acne which perhaps may never heal properly, according to what you reported. I have been on the mino for about 2

  3. thanks for the input, but i just wanted to bring this post back to the top so i could maybe get some more detailed responses about hyperpigmentation. Anybody know anything more?
  4. just started a course of minocycline, and the only thing I'm a little concerned about is the hyperpigmentation which Ive heard can be a side effect of the antibiotic. But Im not clear on what this means exactly - old red marks from pimiples stay forever? Or just take much longer to go away? OR, do parts of the skin just change color unreltaed to acne? I have pretty light colored skin. And one more thing, will taking acidophilous during the course of mino reduce the risk for hyperpigmentation>
  5. OK, for a while i thought retin-a was quite helpful for me. After using it for about 6 months, it had helped keep me clear (along with doxycycline), and even helped out with some very shallow scarring/discoloration i had. This winter, I unfortunatly had a series of many painful cysts on my foreheads (i guess my doxy had stopped working by then), which didn't really stop until I started a new regimin of supplements and herbs that actually seemed to stop any new cysts and allow the ones that i had
  6. For at least 2 months, I have noticed that on one side of my forehead, on a place where i suffered a bout of some persistent cysts over the winter, there remains what seems to be a layer under the skin which remains raised and slightly lumpy even long after the cystst have come to a head or come down. It is not sore or red or anything (although there is the redness of some healing acne in places), but when i move my fingers over my forehead i can feel this lumpiness, which was defitly not there
  7. hey thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, i believe you about the cream being pore-clogging, it did seem to cause zits that i never got while using the gel. Why the hell would they put a pore-clogging ingrediant in a treatment for acne? Even most sunscreens these days are non-comedogenic. IDIOTS
  8. is it ok (safe and effective) to switch off from tretinoin gel to tretinoin cream from night to night, in order to deal with the sometimes overdrying (but generally more effective) nature of the gel?
  9. thanks for the advice guys, I think Ill wait it out a few more weeks before I totally jump ship on doxycycline. I dont really like the idea of being on antibiotics all the time, but if they start working again, then Ill ride it out for a little while...
  10. Up until the last week of December, I had been on 100mg of doxycline once daily along with retin-a gel for about 5 months, which helped control breakouts but certainly did not eliminate them, justgenreally made them less dramatic. Anyway, when i saw my derm at the end of Dec, I was pretty frusterated because i had been breaking out a lot lately. So my dosage was doubled to 100mg of doxy twice a day, which form all acounts seems to be fairly standard. Since then I havde been breaking out A LOT, e
  11. Hey, This is definitely a long shot, but...Does anyone think it may be possible that having a small, managable pimple popping up within a small, very shallow area of scarring (SLIGHT but noticable indentation) may actually do something to HELP the scar? Perhaps a whitehead coming up and subsequently healing would encourage a little bit of collegen growth or help repair a damged layer of superficially scarred skin, in the long run improving the appearance of the scar? For some reason I suspect
  12. Thanks for the tip! Ill have to look into lactic acid and this CP stuff which seems so popular around here. Is lactic acid something that offers quick results, or is the type of thing where you have to do it every week for several months before seeing a difference? Ive never done ANY type of peel before, and this one looks appealing becasue supposidly it is relativly gentle.
  13. on one side of chin/cheek area i have a jagged patch of discolored skin where i used have some major, borderline cystic pimples over the past year. i have lightish, mildly freckly skin tone in general. since going on doxycyline nad using retin a since laste july, i have no makor acen flareups in that area (jsut an occasional tiny pimple). fortunatly, there seems to be no real indentation here (like on the other side of my face), just dark brown or red in color and it always seems to be a little
