  1. I have been swimming a few times a week in a salt water pool, and I was hoping that the salt water would be good for my skin. I've heard lots of good things about the effect of sea salt on acne, for example. However, I checked several lists of comedogenic ingredients. They all say that NaCl (salt) is highly comedogenic. So, I'm super confused. Does anyone know if pool salt water is comedogenic?
  2. Thanks! The links in your signature are super helpful, by the way. Yes, I still need birth control as I'm sexually active. I'm nervous though as my doctor wouldn't tell me anything about the Diane-35 except that it "works better and has the same risks". Yet when I did some research the side effects sound worse, but I might just have to take the plunge and try it.
  3. Thanks for your reply! I'm currently on Yasmin (and it is the only pill I've ever tried). My doctor did recommend that I try switching to Diane-35 for a while, but I'm not sure if it's the right choice.
  4. My skin has been relatively clear for the past 4 years. Sometimes I get breakouts for a few weeks, but since October my skin has been going crazy. I noticed that I've had an increase in hair on my face too. My face has more peach fuzz on it than before and some of it is growing long. I also found just one darker hair on my chin. Could this be related? I'm 22 and female and have been on the pill for 4 years. I also noticed some brown spots which look like moles on my chin which appeared in
  5. Currently I use Cetaphil face wash, then 0.5 % salicylic acid. I do this twice a day. Then I use 5 % benzoyl peroxide at bedtime as well. That's all I use.
  6. Sometimes I get these little grayish white dots around my lips. After a while they flare up and become big, painful pimples. Sometimes they do this on their own, and sometimes after I've picked at it or irritated it. I've had two or three dots on my lower lip for almost 2 months now. I know they won't go away until they flare up. I'm assuming the dots are clogged pores - does that sound right? Is there a way to unclog them so a pimple won't form? I don't want to irritate either or a pimple wi
  7. Thanks! That would work if I could find a salicylic acid lotion. I find the wash doesn't work not because I can't apply it, but my skin just doesn't respond to it. The pads don't have enough product on them to really cover my back anyway - I have to use 2-3 just for my face.
  8. Hi everyone, I've been using salicylic acid pads on my chest, and they're working really well. I can't reach my back to apply there though. I was thinking that something in a spray form would be better. Neutrogena offers one but it's not available in Canada, and they won't ship here. Does anyone in Canada use anything like this? Or can anyone recommend a way to get salicylic acid on my back more easily? I've tried using a S.C. wash but it doesn't work for me.
  9. Thanks everyone. It's definitely not a cold sore. I've been using the same toothpaste and lip balm for years and never had this problem, which is weird. I think I may have gotten some makeup near my lips though or something.
  10. Lately, I've been getting breakouts on the border of my lip. On Wednesday night I could feel one coming up. By Friday it had grown quite large, and it's still there today (Sunday). I've had this before but usually they come to a head in a day or two. There's no sign of this one coming to a head... it feels like those deep, hard pimples I get that last a month or more =( Would a cortisone shot still help, even though the pimple's been there for a few days? And would it really hurt
  11. This happens to me too! I can't believe it, I thought my skin was just crazy, haha. I get quite nervous about flying though, so I thought it was just the stress causing it.
  12. Thanks to you both. I feel better already. Acne has always been an issue for me, and I want to be able to turn to my boyfriend for support. I can come here most of the time, and it really does help. But sometimes I need to hear from him that he's attracted to me. Maybe I'll leave it for a while and if I still feel like I need his support, I'll talk to him about it. That's a good point about him seeing things differently too though. He wasn't trying to be mean or anything - he was doing his best
  13. I've been dating my boyfriend for the past 8 months. My skin has been clear-ish for about two years, since I took Accutane. 2 months ago, it started breaking out a lot. It's really bothering me, to the point where I won't look in mirrors. I'm frustrated beyond belief, both with my skin and my doctor. I've never really talked about my skin with my boyfriend before tonight; I'm embarrassed to. I honestly feel worse now though, not better. He asked me if I always wash my face before bed. That h
  14. Yep, by course I mean my doctor only prescribed me 6 weeks worth of pills =( I have been on minocycline before, she did the same thing, and yep, the acne came back. I'm not sure what to do, my doctor isn't too keen on the idea of long term minocycline.
  15. Did it cost you money? I know it probably varies by province, but here I think some dermatologists offer private services (like cosmetic ones). Those aren't covered by the government and cost money, but you can get them without a referral. Yet it seems if I want to go for something that IS covered, like acne, I need a referral. I can't afford to pay an arm and a leg just to see the doctor, haha.
