  1. Hi Everyone, I haven't posted on here for over two years (last posts were summer 2008 I believe), but I wanted to give everyone an update on my situation. I took accutane (claravis 40mg twice daily) for about 4 months during the summer of 2007 and began noticing hair loss about a month into it. Unfortunately, I listened to my derm who explained to me that shedding was common and that it would stop, blah blah, blah. Didn't discover this forum (and others) until 4 months into it and stopped immed

I took accutane (claravis 80mg twice daily) for about 4 months during the summer of 2007 and began noticing hair loss about a month into it. Unfortunately, I listened to my derm who explained to me that shedding was common and that it would stop, blah blah, blah. 3. Hey everyone, it's been a year now since my last dose of accutane and i'm pleased to say that my hairloss has mostly stopped at this point. I use large amounts of rogaine twice daily, revita shampoo, nioxin conditioner and that goldwell hairspray with t-flavenone at night. I lose about 30 hairs per day at this point (only when i'm rubbing the rogaine in or shampoo), notice almost no itchiness and am noticing the ultra thin spot on top of my head beginning to thicken up again. It's been doing th
  4. Hey everyone, just wanted to report that I've been on minox (lots of it.... I go through about a bottle of it per week because I cover the whole scalp) and goldwell hair spray in addition to all the other crap i've been using (refer to my previous posts) and have definately noticed some positive results. My hair shed increased for a little while but now it's definately decreased again back to where it was in May- I lose maybe 30-40 in the morning when I put the rogaine in and another 30-40 total
  5. Gracie- I use the goldwell stuff before bed, about two hours after I shower. I dont lose very much with the goldwell because I put rogaine in after my shower and that pretty much causes whatever else i'm going to shed for that day to come out. Observations: I am beginning to notice TONS of little new hairs poking up along my hairline, as well as vellus hairs (those tiny white ones) beginning to grow out a bit and gain a bit of pigment. This proves to me that my hair is still capable of regrowi
  6. mikey- did you say you use the aloe vera thing once a week? or once a day? Aloe vera is great for your skin so i'm assuming it's good for your hair too, regardless of whether or not it helps with the accutane shedding.
  7. Using copious amounts of rogaine (rubbing generous amounts into my entire scalp, going through about one bottle every week and a half) has definately resulted in regrowth of some of my hair- I have lots of short, thick little hairs coming in around my hairline and elsewhere (i'm hopeful that the same is also happening on top, but I can't see up there so not sure). The catch is that I still lose a ton of hair every day, especially when putting the rogaine in. My hand is practically covered in ha
  8. I'll post some pictures soon. You may be able to ween yourself off rogaine if it works and your family doesnt seem to have MPB to begin with. However if it's common in your family you probably need to keep using it, at least until they begin to offer hair cloning/ follicle neogenesis treatments. Check out a company called intercytex- they're almost finished with phase II trials and a product may be available as early as 2010.
  9. mikey, my hairloss also virtually stopped for a little while and now has picked up again. I've started using rogaine all over my scalp to see if it helps any... going to stick with it for six months this time. I have noticed a couple thick new hairs sprout on the hairline almost as soon as I started using it, so I am hopeful that there is at least the potential of regrowth. On top I am virtually bald though- I've definately lost the vast majority of my hair from the traditional MPB areas. It's
  10. I've buzzed my head as well- it's actually improved things drastically cosmetically. I still am very very thin on top though to the point where it looks pretty much bald... Currently waiting for T-Flavenone stuff to arrive and will try that out soon. For some reason, any time I get a haircut my shedding goes WAY up for about a week afterwards. I'm talking losing 4 and 5 hairs almost any time I even touch my head. Does the physical action of cutting my hair/running a buzzer through parts of it
  11. My latest suspicion.... maybe it's in the water? My apartment building for the summer is only a year old and yet my shower head has a ring of blue around where the water comes out.... copper deposits! So i'm wondering if the reversal in my recovery might be due to minerals in the water.... I bought a water softening showerhead and a brita filter... we'll see if that does anything I guess. I'm going to see my PCP tomorrow and ask him to give me lab orders for checking my thyroid, iron levels, a
  12. Precision- what have you been treating the hairloss with over the past two years? Have you noticed a decrease in shedding with any of the treatments? Also, what other side effects besides hairloss did you notice when you stopped the drug? You must have had some kind of bad reaction to it because 20 mg twice daily is a pretty small dose. I'm still really pissed that my hairloss pretty much stopped for a month and then picked up again even worse than before.... i'm starting to use rogaine again (
  13. nice finds gracie! though i'm not so sure about the Thriven stuff- looks gimmicky. Where does it say the active ingedient is t-flavenone? Also, this "secret supplement" sounds a little creepy... isn't it illegal to sell a consumable like that and not tell the customer what's in it? rjfnyu- could you please give us a little bit of background info? How much accutane did you take and for how long? also how is your hair overall these days? Are you visibly balding? what have you done to try and com
  14. LOL the irony is that I can't find a single product out there which contains this ingredient- the only one that was being sold in the USA was discontinued because the FDA sent them a letter telling them their product can't be legally sold in the "cosmetics" category. Moreover, the only other place I could find it (Japan) recently decided to stop shipping to the US...
  15. Thanks lamarr! That's exactly the kind of information I was looking for.
