For you space cadets

Uh...I guess you didn't get the humour. Momentary Lapse of Reason...it's the name of the album the song is from... And I understood it in 1987. -

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, -
Why do Bad things happen to Good People?
vnv replied to swimming's topic in Emotional and psychological effects of acne
No, I don't blame you at all for being a bit defensive, I realize maybe my original post came across more strongly than I intended and I didn't word it perfectly. I'm certainly not trying to take anything away from you or vilify you in any way and I do empathize with your frustration over having bad skin since obviously I've been there too. -

I never said or even suggested that you have a crap personality. I'll take your word when you say that you treat other people well, what I'm trying to say though is that establishing this dichotomy of "good" and "bad" people and then trying to link it to some sort of system of divine rewards or punishments is really counter-productive and isn't going to help your self-esteem in the long run. -

I'm wondering what you feel makes you qualify as such a "good" person, especially in comparison to what I can only assume you consider to be not-so-good people. Would God really want you going around and thinking of yourself as such a wonderful, magnanimous person? Pride goeth before the fall. And if you can take a step back from your own personal problems for a minute and look at things fairly objectively, God doesn't seem to have a very good track record for rewarding good people and punishin -
Thanks for your advice, though I should have clarified that I'm already familiar with and have accepted the risks associated with tanning in general and what I'm really concerned about here is whether the use of AHA/BHA drastically increases those risks or if any effect they might have is very minor.

I use several alpha-hydroxy and beta-hydroxy-based products--a BHA toner, an AHA lotion for red mark fading, and a salicilic acid-based acne cleanser that contains AHA (though I haven't used this one for several days now). The BHA toner's bottle contains no warnings or information at all about sun exposure, the AHA lotion for red marks suggests using a sunscreen when exposed to the sun (which I do anyway for tanning), and the AHA-containing cleanser not only says this but also says I should limi

Is acne gods way of making us ugly?
vnv replied to I_Have_Bad_Acne's topic in Emotional and psychological effects of acne
I don't think we should be blaming "God" for anything (being as I'm an atheist and all), but let's be consistent here. If people are going to give thanks to God for the good stuff in their lives then it's only fair to blame him when their lives end up in the shithouse too. -

Yeah, that's a nice, big, luscious pair of... eyes, I agree. -

Sweetheart, if that's really your pic, I can assure you that nobody is going to be looking at your zits when they see you. -
"80% of feeling good is looking good"
vnv replied to elevate's topic in Emotional and psychological effects of acne
It's not really hard to understand. We're a nation of lazy, hedonistic slobs who care little about their personal health and hygeine and we've all convinced ourselves that we're never at fault for our own shortcomings so fat people can remain a socially acceptable phenomenon because it's really the fault of genetics, big corporations pushing unhealthy food, or other external circumstances for their situation. -

You'll have to excuse him, he's an Italian stallion so all he has to do is oil his pecs and hold a rose between his teeth and he can get any girl he wants without ever telling a single lie, mistruth or exaggeration. -

vnv replied to JPizzle's topic in Emotional and psychological effects of acne
Well look at it this way. You're not lying to be interesting, you're lying to get laid. Then after that happens you'll have a legitimately interesting story to tell and it will be completely truthful--you managed to get into a girl's pants by feeding her a convincing enough bullshit story. -

Yeah, I'm sure she'd feel absolutely horrified and violated to learn that the funny anecdotal story you told her over a cup of coffee actually didn't happen. -
Compliments are bullshit. I always feel like I have to hold myself to a higher standard after receiving a compliment and it makes me nervous and self-conscious lest I disappoint or let down anyone and the net effect is it just decreases my overall efficiency or happiness.

Just think how many chords that guy can strike with you when they bury his monolithic, corpulant husk inside a hollowed-out piano.

Even if he somehow managed to lose 500 lbs, I don't think he'd be running any marathons with the remaining 300 or so lbs packed on.

Eh? He killed himself? How many rounds from an elephant rifle did that take? Or did he consume about 5000 sleeping pills and wash them down with a case of Jack Daniels? I just hope his family can afford the swimming pool, hull of a mid-sized boat, or something else comparable in size with which to bury him in (and the half-acre of burial plot also).

More words of wisdom
vnv replied to PinkPhilosoFloyd's topic in Emotional and psychological effects of acne
Wow, and here I was studying Plato and Kant, when all this time I could be learning about the true meaning of life from some drug-abusing biblethumper on an acne message board. My life has been wasted :\ -
