  1. I know this is an old post, but for the original poster, can I ask which dermatologist did that to your face? I want to make sure I avoid that person as I am also in the SF area. Thank you!
  2. I agree with the previous post that aloe vera isn't really a good moisturizer although it didn't hurt my skin either. I would try using a drop or two of jojoba oil mixed with a light moisturizer. I think skin flakes can sometimes cause acne cuz they trap the oil from coming out of your pores.
  3. Thanks for responding =) Do you think these noninflamed bumps usually go away on their own then? I've had a few cortisone shots as well in the past, but always for inflamed cysts.
  4. I have this small cyst underneath my skin (I think it's a sebaceous cyst), it doesn't hurt unless I press on it and doesn't look too inflamed (yet), you can't really see it, but you can see the bump in certain angles or if I smile. Is it too early to get a cortisone shot? Should I just wait to see if it will go away on its own? Would a cortisone shot even be effective if the cyst is not inflamed?
  5. I had popped a pimple a week ago and at first, it seemed like it was healing ok. I kept using a strong salicylic acid solution on the area and now the skin in that area is forming a purple scab! Is this normal?? Should I just leave the scab alone and wait for it to fall off on its own?
  6. how long does the swelling last before it goes down??
  7. Just wondering what your experiences were with extracting a whitehead! I have a tiny whitehead that has the potential to become a full blown pimple because I can feel the little knot under the skin that indicates there's a lot of trapped oil and stuff in there. Should I extract it?? Does it cause scars?? Also, how do you guys know if the acne has left a scar. Are icepick scars really noticeable right away or do they show up much later?
  8. You look like you have mild acne to me, no need for accutane. Maybe try other things like topicals for now or spironolactone? If I saw you on the street, I would say you had pretty good skin! =)
  9. So it's weird, but this morning, the pimple went down and doesn't hurt anymore. There is still some stuff below the surface, the clogged whitehead is still there, but it's smaller. I'm not sure what happened. I did try to ice it so maybe it brought down the inflammation. Plus I think the opening to the pore is clear since I was able to poke the needle right through and was able to get the BP.
  10. I have the same problem. The only thing I can think of is using salicylic acid to clear out the pores and prevent whiteheads in the first place...
  11. OK, so I have been breaking out like crazy for the past few months. Can't figure out why! Most of the time, it's clogged whiteheads becoming inflamed.... I had yet another clogged whitehead burst under my skin and start to hurt tonight. I could see a tiny whitehead on it so I tried to use a sterilized needed to poke the whitehead. The needle went into the whitehead pore opening with pretty much no resistance, but nothing came out when I gave a gentle squeeze. I then decided to call it a night
  12. Hi, I haven't had a cyst in about a year, but this month, one popped up on my chin. I realize that I do have some indentations on my chin from other cortisone shots I've had, although not extremely obvious, I do notice it in certain lights. I'm not sure which shots caused the atrophy since most of the shots I've had were around the chin area, and I don't know if they will ever completely fill in since the last shot I had was a year ago so you would think it would have filled in completely by now
  13. I've actually had several cortisone shots- maybe about 7-8 so far, mostly 1-3 months apart for big cysts. Most were fine or left tiny indentations that are way better than having a cyst for weeks. I had one that left a bigger indentation on my cheek, but that went away too, not that big of a deal and hardly anyone noticed it. I've seen some pics of people with really big indentations though and I wonder why that would happen. Anyways, to update, the dr would not inject the spot where I squeeze
  14. I've had a doctor actually squeeze the cyst before though, I guess it's called draining it or something. Nothing fancy, just a prick and then she squeezed it with her fingers, pretty much like what I would do at home.
  15. This is the first time I've attempted to squeeze a cyst on my chin. It was so disgusting! The cyst I have is non inflamed, just a hard lump that popped up. I could see that it had a tiny white center though and today, I pricked it with a needle and then squeezed. Yellow stuff shot out, followed by blood. I had an apptment for a cortisone shot scheduled for tomorrow, but now i'm not sure if I should get it done. In your experience, does this type of "draining" heal the cyst on its own? I can
