  1. Hello.

I am a 22 year old female, about 140 lb, on 30 mg/day Sortet for the first month.

So this is my Accutane journal and I’m thinking I’ll just keep it up for information and encouragement (for you guys). I’ll probably only post about once a week or with updates. Ok so, I’m on about day 10… I’m not actually sure because I broke all the pills out on the first day and put them in a pill bottle.

During the first week my skin was pretty oily and I had some break-outishness (a.k.a. my skin’s natural state) but now my skin has dramatically improved; it has began to dry up and I’ve gotten only a few pimples (2 cyst-like pimples, 1 above my lip, and 1 below) which have dried up very quickly especially since I didn’t mess with them besides putting some Queen Helene’s mint julep mask to help them along, and anyway probably the only reason got them is because I’m still using Benzaclin which tends to give me cysts around my mouth area (chin and upper lip) while clearing me up elsewhere. I’ve also had numerous blackheads (or clogged pores, they’re a little different than blackheads because sometimes they have a small amount of pus but they are not visible I can just feel them under the skin).

Now, normally, I would have lots of pustules on my cheeks, cysts on my chin, white-heads around my eye-brows, and blackheads on my nose, so this is actually a real improvement. It is probably important for me to mention that I started birth-control (Yasmin) about three weeks before Accutane, so, this may be part of the reason my skin is improving so rapidly. And, by the way, I have stopped avoiding yummy foods within the past week, i.e., spicy foods, caffeine, and sugary sweets, but my skin is still improving! Imagine how quickly my skin would improve if I didn’t indulge…

Side effects I have noticed thus far:

My skin on my face has begun to dry up but not to the point of needing moisturizer. I was actually so afraid of getting all peely that in the first few days I applied tons of moisturizer, which, come to think of it, may have caused my initial break out (my skin doesn’t take kindly to moisturizer). As far as my body goes, I use a soap made of olive oil and green tea which keeps my skin nice and soft, and… my lovely, wonderful boyfriend gives me back massages all the time with emollient lotion as well. During the first week, my eyes were super dry even when I used eye drops until I discovered the magnificent gel drops made by Genteal, now I only need to apply drops once a day. My lips haven’t been dry but I’m pretty good about wearing lip balm. I have been extremely tired but this may be caused by the birth control (nothing a little caffeine can’t fix). Anyway, that’s all I can think of. Oh, I also take omega 3-6-9 caps (which fyi, can be kept in the freezer so as to not cause disgusting fish flavored burps) and vitamin e (400 iu), although I’m pretty lazy about remembering to do so.

    My history:

I started taking birth control for the reasons most ladies take birth control, to control birth, when I was 15 and I was on it till I was maybe 17 or 18. Before birth control I never had a problem with my skin, a few here or there every once in a while; to be quite honest, I can’t remember so I’m guessing there was no problem. It wasn’t until I went off birth control that my skin started to get bad, whether it was caused by Candida (brought about by the birth control) or hormones I can’t be sure, or maybe I just reached the age I would have begun to get them anyway. So after a few years of slathering make-up on to cover it I went to a dermatologist, was prescribed numerous antibiotics, topicals, and finally he suggested Yasmin which worked really well when teamed with minocycline (sp?). Unfortunately, I, hoping I had finally “out-grown itâ€, decided to go off all meds and if it returned attempt a more natural approach. The natural approach, including taking supplements, and excluding most sugary foods, and all dairy and gluten, improved the condition of my skin but did not actually get rid of my acne (for any extended period of time). So, finally I went to my dermatologist and just asked straight-out for Accutane, (which my derm. never mentioned and I had to learn about myself from this wonderful site) only to find out that they couldn’t prescribe it and I would have to go somewhere else. Whew! What a waste of time! Well, I called one of the derm.’s from the list they gave me and got an appointment and my Accutane (I actually got the generic Sortet) that day. So, for the first month I will be on 30 mg a day.

    Ok, bye! :shy:

  2. :boohoo:

I eat baby meals, lots of fruits & veggie (tables), no meat (yuck), no dairy (just almond milk), never work out, lots of disco dancing in my bedroom (door shut) & sexy sex... conclusion: fit as a tree, staight and narrow, nice and lean.

  3. I eat veggie sandwiches twice a day with carrots and haven't broken out since (but I'm an abnormally healthy person). They usually contain rice bread (I believe I'm intolerance to wheat/gluton), red pepper humus, spinach, avacado, carrots, vegenaise, broccoli sprouts, and veggie cheese. I also take borage oil capsules (after a meal with lecithin mixed into almond milk to increase absorption), a multi-vitamin, and flax seed oil. Wash with water or honey, tone with a toner i made myself (triple strength green tea, aloe, and lemon juice), and if I'm in the mood... aspirin face mask/scrub (made by crushing cheapo aspirin tablets and mixing with water). Seems to be working well!

  4. hello. i am 100% clear. that's right friends! and if it wasn't for this website i would have never gotten there... so read this if it's the last thing you do. trust me. 100% clear, living proof.

    to start with:

    Supplements:

    • Nature’s Way brand Borage 1000mg (2x/day)

    • Nature’s Way brand Evening Primrose (high potency) 1300mg (2x/day)

    • Health from the Sun brand Black Currant 1000mg (2x/day)

    • Solgar brand Zinc Citrate 30mg (2x/day)

    • The Lecithin from Lewis Labs (granules) (1 tbsp 2x/day) – tastes nasty straight or mixed in milk (probably because it’s mango/pineapple flavor but surprisingly good in a chai tea flavored soy protein drink)

    • Whole Foods brand Food Based One (1 tablet 1x/day)

after your clear go ahead and cut the dosages in half for every thing but zinc... Good luck, friends!

NOTE: I take the Borage, Evening Primrose, and Black Currant capsules with a half cup of soy milk mixed with 1 tbsp of Lecithin, this aids in the body's ability to absorb the oils. I do not necessarily take it with a meal.

Wash: Desert Essence brand Thoroughly Clean Face Wash or honey (raw, natural)... it's very important to use a simple (very few ingredients) and gentle face cleanser, this one (Desert Essence brand) works particlarly well for me, for those in the US, I picked it up at Whole Foods

Moisturize: Desert Essence brand jojoba oil... my skin has become increasingly supple since taking these vitamins and I therefore no longer have the need to moisturize

Scrub: Aubrey Organics brand Jojoba Meal & Oatmeal: Mask & Scrub... any scrub should do but it's better to avoid those containing the exfoliants apricot, almond or walnut shell granules because these can spread infection; microgranules and oatmeal work best. I exfoliate twice a day, I believe it is ever so slowly getting rid of the blackheads I have accumulated.

Mask: Aztec Secret Health & Beauty brand Indian Healing Clay (Calcium Bentonite Clay)... any green clay mask works, I only put them on active spots/cysts

Make-up: Everyday Minerals brand... any mineral brand should work just fine (it's best to try to not wear any when you can, of course)

so, i only use the facial cleanser and scrub everyday, spot treat with mask. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... BE PATIENT... 2 weeks later and i can almost nearly (98 3/4 %) garuntee you will be as clear as me...! GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU. i will not be back. good bye friends, and again thank you so much for all of this useful info. you're the best and most certainly da bomb fo' real!

  5. Hi. I have been taking these supplements (listed below) for about 1 1/2 weeks. My skin is now 80% clear. I no longer have any cysts on my chin, pustules on my cheeks, or white heads. I do still get blackheads and very small clogged pores that are easily taken care of and do not last for days and days, as they did before. Using a scrub daily seems to help with this problem. My skin also seems to heal much more quickly. Once I'm done with the bottles I'm using I plan on going down to half of the dosage I'm currently taking.

Also, I had begun taking ACV internally but quit about 4 days into the program so I know thats not whats been helping to clear my skin. I also noticed that applying ACV topically was making me break out like crazy. I think its also important to mention that anyone who has been on antibiotics for a long period of time should take probiotics at least for a week or two to restore the "good" bacteria which have been killed by the antibiotics.

This is the only thing that has ever worked for me besides birth control pills. Good luck everyone! I highly recommend taking these supplements!

P.S. I take the multi-vitamin (Food Based One) just for overall good health, it has never helped me clear my skin.

  6. Hello. The other night I read the entire "Evening Primrose Oil" message board, and, having always been a fan of holistic medicine and supplementation (“Go team holistic medicine and supplementation!†Dork.), I decided to give this GLA regimen a try. I took the supplements listed below for only 1 day and already I am seeing results. I woke up in the night to use the restroom and to my amazement no new pimples have formed (and this is an unusual occurrence for me) and my skin looked generally better. The redness left over from pimples which normally last weeks (even months) seems to be lighter. Pinkish-red scars on my cheeks look to be actually healing. It’s nothing short of amazing, really. So that’s, that. Now, a little into my history… when I was a teenager I never had acne, I never even had to wear make-up, but throughout my teens I was on birth control (starting from when I was 15). It wasn’t until I got off birth control (around 19) that I started getting acne. It was mostly on my cheeks (enormous pustules) and around my eyebrows, for whatever reason. I am 22 now. About a year ago I visited my dermatologist after having tried numerous times, and failed, at finding a holistic approach to deal with this plague. I had also starting getting cysts on my chin. He put me on a number of creams first, then later, antibiotics and creams, and finally, when we realized it was being caused by hormones, birth control pills (Yasmin which contains spironolactone), antibiotics, and more creams. This last regimen worked for me but after about 8 or 9 months I decided to get off of the birth control and antibiotic (medicine scares me). It wasn’t long before I started breaking out again. So I went back to my derm., tail between my legs, and asked for more drugs, and, of course, he obliged. I am now on, and have been on for a month, a low dose of spironolactone (50 mg 1x/day) and a lose dose of doxycycline (50 mg 1x/day) but neither of these have improved my acne and I recently read in the reviews given of spironolactone on this web site that is has been known to give cancer to lab rats. So, I am defiantly going to try to get off of it ASAP! Anyway, that’s the end of my short story (it certainly seems long enough) and I will continue to update you on my progress. Also, after reading about the toxins possibly present in unrefined Borage, I decided to split up my sources of GLA, which is probably a good idea regardless of toxicity.

Regimen as of 1 day ago…

Wash: DermaKlear brand Akne Treatment (bar soap containing a small amount of sulfur)

Moisturize: Kiss My Face brand Vitamin A & E Moisturizer applied liberally to dry areas only (I have been using this for awhile now and find it very agreeable to my oily skin)

Make-up: Everyday Minerals brand (haven’t started yet but awaiting my free sample!)

    Supplements:

    • Nature’s Way brand Borage 1000mg (2x/day)

    • Nature’s Way brand Evening Primrose (high potency) 1300mg (2x/day)

    • Health from the Sun brand Black Currant 1000mg (2x/day)

    • Solgar brand Zinc Citrate 30mg (2x/day), thank you someoneintheuk!

    • The Lecithin from Lewis Labs (granules) (2 tbsp 2x/day) – tastes nasty straight or mixed in milk (probably because it’s mango/pineapple flavor but surprisingly good in a chai tea flavored soy protein drink)

    • Whole Foods brand Food Based One (1 tablet 1x/day)

I also eat a healthy vegetarian (almost vegan diet) but am not sure if this has decreased or contributed to my acne (although I doubt it has contributed to it). I, sadly, do not exercise, ever.
