  1. thanks for the kind words, thenewshmoo!! I've managed to calm down a little and I'll try to be more patient. I just couldn't believe what I saw in the mirror today as it seemed as I might be totally clear by the end of the week. It was soooo nice to not having to apply cover makeup for ONCE....so now I'm back to what I'm used to I guess....the cover stick is my best friend... What I forgot to ask before: How long is an average course of Accutane? I've heard some ppl take it for up to 1 year
  2. Forget what I wrote under the "pores" threat, I'm NOT happy with my face anymore....Over night I got 6 (!!!) new big ones, 1 between my eyes 3 on my chin and 2 on my cheek. ](*,) And damn they hurt too! I can't believe it!!! I thought it's getting better...and now this! I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions before the end of the treatment, but I really begin to worry if it'll really work at all for me in the end... Has any of you guys experienced several breakouts during the course or d
  3. Hi all, I'm halfway through my second month of Accutane (60mg/day) and I've seen MAJOR improvement / . There is literally no acne on my back anymore and I've only got 2 active pimples on my face. However, I have tons of red marks which turned brown since I got a tan over the last two weeks. I use sunscreeen religiously, it's just that I tan very fast and it of course affects the color of my marks. I use Cetaphil and Aloe Vera Gel 100% every night and basically sleep with a thick layer of moi
  4. just letting you know that my derm finally put me on Accutane, he's convinced my bloodwork is a matter of genes. It's my 10th day now, I'm doing good! Not having any serious side effects, only the sides of my nose are a little dry. I still have one annoying cyst on my chin and many tiny pimples on my forehead as well as a couple on my cheek, but I already feel that Accutane will soon kick in. Beat acne! Kath
  5. Hi all, I've been taking Accutane for 6 days now and I haven't experienced any side effects so far. My skin hasn't dried out at all, however I don't give it much of a chance to do so. I use Cetaphil moisturizer, aloe vera gel and a whole bunch of other products very very generously on face, lips, arms and even feet. Ihaven't noticed my skin getting either better or worse acne wise, it's pretty much the same as before the tane. The only thing that I noticed is that I have a strong appetite
  6. We really seem to be in the same boat. Just like you I've tried everything, from otc to prescribed topicals and antibiotics. But it did more harm than good! My skin has always seemed become resistent to all the medications and always dried out. Another thing that I noticed is that my pores got bigger and bigger over the years and brownish spots developed when I tanned - the medications seemed to do more harm than good! This finally made me decide to go on Accutane. The medications did no
  7. Hi! My acne ranges from non-existent to mild and moderate in the worst case. Most of the time it's moderate but then I have times where it even seems to vanish (well...for exactly three weeks during my summer vacation when my face is exposed to sun and sea water). The problem is that it has been soo persistent for over 10 years now...Nothing seems to really work for me. Everytime I try a new topical, it works for a couple weeks, giving me hope and then they stop working and dry out my skin.
  8. Hi there, thanks so much for your reply! It's good to know that I'm not the only one with dry skin on this board!! How long have you been on Accutane and how are you doing? When did it kick in? I'm on 40mg/day, 120lbs. going for a 4 month course. My derm will up my dose after 4 weeks. This is day 2. No side effects so far. However, I already started to be generous with the cremes and just added a new gel to my collection: 100% Aloe Vera. peace, kath ps: any1 know about a detailed A
  9. hi all, I've started my Accutane treatment today. What I'm really worried about is my dry skin, which I've always had. 4 Questions -all responses are highly appreciated! : 1.) Does Accutane clear acne on oily skin better than "dry acne" or is it as fast and effective? I've heard that oily acne is easier to treat. I've had dry skin and acne all my life and all doctors said it's harder to treat....Any opinions?? 2.) I've had bad irritations on my very sensitive skin from topical isotr
  10. Hi all, my derm finally put me on Accutane! I'm soooo excited! / Can't wait to pop the first pill! I haven't been given the prescription in the first place because my doc wasn't sure about my "weird" cholesterol levels (too much of the good stuff HDL, a lot less of the "bad" LDL). She then referred me to a specialist and he (at an appointment 4 weeks after the blood test results....grrrr) gave me the blessing to go on Accutane as he's convinced the results are due to genetic disposition and
  11. Of course do I know that the blood test is testing my cholesterol and liver, this is not what confuses me. What bugs me is that the GOOD cholesterol -which you can read on every webpage cannot be HIGH enough, is "too high" according to the doc, and that the BAD choleserol is low, which is actually good thing, isn't it. Is it the ratio that is out of control or what is it!? My doc said it was a "strange pattern"... And what do you suggest to do till I get tested a second time? I've been eating
  12. @MrKeys: I have been on every medication you could ever think of. I tried everything from topical cremes to antibiotics, birth control pill, laser, etc.pp..... I think 11-12 yrs of acne is enough, really. I'm fed up and want it to go away!!! ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) sorry bout my ranting, I've been pretty miserable since I got the test results... I was so sure I'd be put on the drug. I had already even bought moisturizers, special shampoo, lipstick worth $ 150 to deal with
  13. regarding your HDL cholesterol, the only way you'll know if it's genetic is if you had been tested before the accutane use... which I don't think they did - they tested you after the first week or two right? --> this was the test PRIOR to Accutane! I've not taken it yet. I just hope that I won't get rejected by the second derm as well. I really think it's genetic...
  14. Hi all, I posted this on another board, but hardly got any response, so I'll try here: 2 days ago I got the results from my blood test and my doc was not happy. Everything is perfect (like my triglycerides, hemoglobin, and white blood count levels are not just good but really really good!) except for my HDL cholesterol, the so-called "good cholesterol" (3.79 mmol/l, the reference interval is 0.90 - 2.00) : I have too much of it #-o ](*,) ](*,) As for the "bad" cholesterol, I'm at
