    Dan's Paleo Diet Log

The body converts ALA (Alpha-linolenic acid) into all the other faty acids (EPA and DHA are most commonly mentioned) needed by the body. So, in theory, a good source of ALA makes all the other fatty acids obsolete. I take cold pressed flax seed oil, which I increased in the last month or so. Try to keep the 'health in a pill' out of my life... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_omega-3_fatty_acid

It's not even the point of the paleo diet to follow it strictly for the rest of your life. The diet is made to clear you up. Once you are at that point, you can start experimenting with foods and find the more and less 'hazardous' one.

    The Cure is Simple..

Youve basically severely cut your calorific intake. This decreases sebum levels and hence decrease acne. Im sure you are aware of how steroids cause acne. Why do they do this? Because they put the body into an anabolic state. One of the consequences of this is increased sebum levels. And more likelyhood of acne. Just by eating alot of calories the body ALSO goes into an anabolic state and just like steroids acne increases as a consequence of increased sebum (oiliness). This is why isolated tribe

M/F? Age, height, weiht? Im male mid 30's 5'11" 168lbs. Weight isnt so much of an issue as anabolic state. I can be fatter or slimmer its being in anabolic state that matters. Its incredible how oily I get if I eat shit loads, but my friends are amazed how much I eat! Also stress affects oil secretion. Both stress (traveling, family feuds, little sleep) and overeating (XMAS holidays) causes super oiliness! If not for my acne I would certainly avoid some foods you eat for th

I combined the diet from this site: http://www.freeacnebook.com/index.html with the paleo diet. At this point I would like to bring your attention to water. I don't drink anything else more and this is probably the easiest change you can make to your diet. Good, clean bottled water without CO2. WATER - so simple, but so very important. http://healing.about.com/cs/skincare/a/uc_adultacne.htm http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/2-13-2006-88762.asp And another VERY important thing. Every foo

      Working Out(Lifting)/Paleo Diet

So we agree : it's the refined sugar and grain. Death to them!!! And what do you eat??

      Working Out(Lifting)/Paleo Diet

Pathological levels of insulin (which may cause acne) are impossible to have while on a natural diet be it high-carb or low-carb Meat raises insulin levels much more than rice or whole grains, but it is still within a normal range Very few foods have no effect in insulin levels and foods with good amount of protein are not among these ones: proteins raise insulin as much as carbs as insulin is a transporter of amino acids as much as it is a transporter of glucose

      [paleo] there's something i don't understand

In theory all carbhydrates are a problem, but especially refined sugar and grains (bread, pasta,...). I guess it's mainly because of two reasons. One is what Legend already mentioned, that is fiber (not present in grain products), the other thing is, that grain products aren't the same carbohydrates like fruit (fructose).

      Paleo diet and fig fruits

Most dried fruits (unless marked on the package) are machine dried, where the heat is higher than it would be if the fruits were sun dried. An even bigger problem are the preservatives that are added. Eat your fruits mostly fresh and now and then try dried fruits (like for energy reasons when you will be phisicaly active). Wash them down with enough water and if you can, eat some fatty foods to balance out the sugar and avoid insulin spikes.

      Working Out(Lifting)/Paleo Diet

Why do you need carbs after the workout?? You need protein, unless you are heavily emphasizing building mass. But even then meat is a much better post-workout food than anything else. The rest is in my signature. You say you're loosing weight. In the end it's all about calorie intake vs calorie burn. 7 meals per day times 500 calories is only 3500 calories per day - too little. I f you work out every day you definitely have to eat more.
