  1. Just wanted to put my two cents for this product. It is amazing exp my cystic acne. I have it all along my jaw line and i didn't know what the cause of it was. I looked on the forum here and decided to give this a go and it really cleared me up pretty good along my jaw line . I also have really uneven skin tone so i've been using this self tanner called clarins which evens out my skin tone really well

  2. I've been using the cetaphil cleanser the past couple of months and haven't had problems with dryness til the past two weeks -- my skin is REALLY REALLY DRY especially around my smile line area. Feels like I'm on accutane again. I'm also using the cetaphil moisturizing cream, but even that doesn't help (my cheeks still feel really dry). Can you guys recommend me anything that might help? I'm pretty sensitive to a lot of things (I added the thick euracil vaseline onto my smile lines and 2 pimples popped up). Any moisturizing face masks?

  3. I've been having jawline/neck pimples forming these past few months but I can't pinpoint the reason. Two weeks ago, I became ill and ended up eating lots of bread and soup. Last week, I noticed my jawline looked a lot better. However, this week, my left jawline has been breaking out like crazy! I've been cleaning it/doing the ususal, but for some reason, literally 5 pimples are flamed. Sad part is, I'm ONLY struggling with jawline acne and no where else (forehead, chin, nose) is clear. I've been dealing this for 2 years now and it's so frustrating because my jawline WON'T GET better. Could it be possible that the stuff I'm eating is causing an "allergic" reaction? Should I get an allergy test? (isn't it pretty expensive sending in the blood work to get tested?) I really don't know what to do anymore. I even tried taking zinc 50mg but that didn't help either.

  4. I've been taking the regular zinc pills purchased from Walmart...it's been about 2 weeks and I haven't really noticed anything yet. I've been having a terrible jaw line break out for the past 2 months and I don't know what to do. I figured zinc would help, but it hasn't. Does the chelated zinc really make that much of a difference?

  5. Dang, this sucks. I was pretty clear from last year up to this August, but all of a sudden, I had a massive break out on my temples and cheek. They eventually stopped and now, my chin is GOING CRAZY. The right side of my chin has 4 red, active pimples, and they're going straight down in a row. The other side is just as bad. Any recommendations? I'm currently using AQUA glycolic cleanser 2x a day, followed by a aqua glycolic toner at night. I'm also using finacea during the day for red marks, but none of these products seem to help at all. FUDDDGE. Should I go on antibiotics? =/

  6. Just be really careful and make sure you know your limit. I posted here a while ago asking whether I should take accutane or not, and of course people wanted me to (because they got great results). I, however, had to stop within 2 weeks of treatment cause i had a constant ringing in both of my ears. As it turns out, my ears got damaged by the accutane, and now I'm stuck with a permanant ringing called Tinnitus. Kinda sucks....and I'm only 19. =/ Just make sure you're in GOOD health and that if any problems start to arise, stop immediately. Honestly, you're health is more important than acne. Wish I would have learned that 3 months ago.

  7. Just make sure if you decide to take Accutane that you know all the risks and side effects. I had severe cystic acne around my jawline and neck.. and the only thing I could think of that would cure cystic acne for guys was accutane. Also, my skin was EXTREMELY OILY (I could use 2 peices of oil sheet a day) and accutane was known to dry up oilies. Anyways, I got on accutane for 2 weeks, and had to stop cause I was getting sick. Not only that, those two weeks were HELL. My cheeks flared up with redness, and nothing I could put on would help. The dryness was almost unbearable, as I had to reapply moisture every 30 minutes. I went to a clubbing event while on accutane, and although I didn't drink, I was exposed to very loud music, and as a result, I experienced ringing in my ear. I guess accutane makes your whole body; eyes, nose, ears, sensative to everything. Thank god the ringing went away...it took about a week and a half.

Then I got better and noticed that my acne was coming back and that my face was becoming a bit oiler. However, I noticed that I had redness left from accutane a month later. ( I think i might have rosacea now) I still had a couple boxes left of Accutane and so I started to take it again. Only after 5 days I decided to stop again. My cheeks flared up instantly after the 5th pill and it looked like my face was BURNT. That wasn't the main reason why I stopped though. The ringing in my ear came back again, and I knew right then that accutane wasnt right for me. I did a quick google search with accutane + ringing in ear and many people have complained that accutane caused them permanent hearing problems. There was one instant where a guy took a full course of tane and after 27 years, he still experiences the ringing. I just hope that the ringing in my ear will stop.

If you decide to go on accutane, just be really careful of the side effects. Before I took tane, I was like there's no way I'm going to experience any of this stuff. Who knows I would have gotten some rings in my ear. Accutane isn't for everyone, but it seems like it has helped 95% of the people on here.

  8. I've always had terrible cystic acne along my jawline and neck. It got so bad that I went to the doctors and they prescribed me some accutane. However, after only two weeks of taking it, I had to stop because I got sick and was unable to take the medicine. During those two weeks, my skin was soo dry and red and my break out was terrible. However, after I stopped the tane, my skin was nice/even and I stopped breaking out with cystic acne! I was so surprised because it was only 14 days.. just think what 5 months would do. and my oil production stopped. I finally got better and started taking tane again, but only after 5 days (today).. I'm stopping because ever since I started again, I've been getting a slight ringing in my ears. I think this is telling me that tane is not right for me. Anyways, I don't think I will be taking any accutane or anti-biotics anymore. Before tane, I took some b-6complex and fish oil, but I don't think they helped at all. What pills do you guys recommend to help me have clear/less oily skin? I came here because I know a lot of you guys experience with different pills, and wanted to find out from you guys what WORKS BEST.

  9. hi! i started back with tane after getting sick. now, after only taking tane for 5 days, i've noticed a very strange ringing in my ears, almost as if i hear a whistling/buzzing noise. is this common for people who take tane? i looked this up and have heard that accutane can cause permanent damage to your ears if you experience this problem. i think im going to stop tane because my body doesnt seem to be handling it well.

  10. Hi everyone. I've been on tane for 3 days and already my cheeks are FLUSHING with redness. I mean, it looks like I'm drunk and/or been tanning a lot. My cheeks have always been a little rosey, but I'm afraid that if I stay on tane, that it will give me permanent redness on my cheeks. Are there any good products that will help relief the redness?

  11. I was on accutane for about 15 days when I had to stop because I was sick. Now, I am starting back my sotret and today's already my second day. When I was on the 15 days, MY FACE WAS SOOOOOOOO RED. It looks like I was drunk when I really wasn't! Anyways, now that its the second day, my cheeks are starting to flush and the redness is coming back. Is there anything I can do to calm the redness down before it gets worse? I've been mixing aloe vera + cetaphil CREAM but im not sure if this is going to help. also, i started accutane in the winter, so it was really dry. since its the summer, will the humid heat help hydrate my skin?

  12. I'm a second year and lately I've been debating whether i want to change my major or not. Currently, it is CS&E and I absolutely hate it. I hate writing java code sources and everything! Instead, I want to do what I'm most passionate about : skin. In order to go to med school, do you HAVE to be a "BIO" major? I feel like I've wasted all my time into my CS&E classes that if I were to switch to bio that I would be considered a freshman in terms of credit and everything. Sigh.. what should I do. =/

  13. Hey guys.. I have to stop the accutane. Saturday night, I went to a club and left with a ringing ear. Right now.. I still have that ringing in my ear. I think accutane made me more sensative to everything, light, sound.. and so I consulted my doctor and he told me to stop taking the accutane as it may have contributed to the ringing in my ear. I also talked to an audiologist and he said that I might have damaged my ears from the loud sound. this sucks.

  14. DAY 10

Busy busy weekend. Brother flew into town and spent time with him. Anywho~ my face is still red and very dry. I'm getting a little bit used to it. Went clubbing on Saturday, and people thought I was drunk with the red face. Sigh. I guess i can't really do much about it. I still have to constantly reapply moistorizer but atleast that helps a bit. I'm going to this meeting this week in chicago, so I'm praying praying that the redness will go away. I've been breaking out. I'm not exactly sure if this is my "IB" but since I always break out, it's nothing really new. I have about 4 new pimples on my left neck/jawline. Oh yeah.. I'm also really surprised of the amount of moistorizer I use! I apply a bunch of aquaphor and cetaphil but my face hasn't really clogged up or anything from it. :D Also..... I bought the CETAPHIL CREAM recommended to me by SSG. Whoa, this sucker was $13! Oh well, it's worth it if it works. Anyways, I'm going to try the water+cream trick tonight. Does anyone know if I wash my face, then pat dry and rub the cetaphil cream + aloe vera will it be as effective as the cream+water technique? if someone could let me know by the time i shower (in 3-4hours, that'd be great!) i'm exctied, haha.

  15. So after using Proactiv and all, I went to a dermatologist and after juggling around I ended up with Clindamycin and BP Pads in the morning, Differin 0.3 at night, and 2 Doxycycline a day.

Slowed things down for a little bit, but over the past month it stopped I've broke out like crazy. And it's always along my cheecks/jawline. I never get acne on my forehead.

So I went to the doctor and finally got prescribed accutane!!!! Thank god. A bit worried about the side effects, but the blood tests are what I fear the most!! Had my first yesterday and didn't enjoy it much at all.

    So anyway, for my questions...

All I seriously do is take the two 30 mg pills a day??? I'm so used to using this topical in the morning, this topical at night, etc., it seems so simple to just take two pills. My doctor didn't tell me what to do as far as whether or not I stop using my old products. Should I continue using the Clindamycin and Differin??? I was told by the pharmacist DO NOT take the doxycycline anymore...would of been nice if my dermatologist could have told me that. He's a bit of a looney.

So yeah, I'm just wondering what products people used while on Accutane if any?? I'm prepared for the inital break out, but does it help to use topicals to get through it such as BP??? If I get a zit, is it still ok to apply a little bit of BP on that area?? Should I stop using the Clindamycin/BP Pad/Differin that I used to be on???

I'll keep you updated on how it works. I said that last time in my thread a month or two ago about the Clindamycin/Differin regimen, and it didn't work! lol...anyways...Just took my first pill about an hour ago. Wish me luck and please give any advice you can on what else your allowed to apply on Accutane! I'm kind of afraid to mess with this pill by applying anything, lol.

Hey dude, goodluck on Accutane! I just started a week ago. At first, I was like, "yeah, this stuff prolly ain't gonna work, I don't feel nothin!" but then 3 days later, I started seeing the side effects. More importantly, my face right now is EXTREMELY red and dry. I feel like ripping my face off, and it's only been day 8. Just prepare yourself for the worse..Make sure you use plenty of cetaphil CREAM ( they say thats pretty moistorizing) and use aquaphor for your lips and face. If you're accutane, stop all TOPICALS and use a very simple cleanser. But expect to moistorize your face 4-5x daily. (atleast for me)

  16. Hey! Thanks for the replies guys! I would love to scrub my face, but I think that will just aggravate my cheeks more! LOL. I came back home today for the weekend, and when my mom saw my face, she freaked out. She told me I should stop taking accutane and that my body is not reacting well to it. Seriously, I look like I'm sick with a red face. Maybe she's right. Could I be allergic to accutane? But anywho, I'm going to try and stick it out. Today's day 8.. nothing has really changed. Woke up with a REALLY DRY face again. I asked my roommate whether my face got less red, and he said yeah. Last night, I applied a cool layer of aloe vera all over my face, then put the cetaphil lotion all over the face followed by a thick layer of aquaphor only on the upper lips/smile line/cheeks area. My skin still felt extremely tight and dry. I'm really crossing my fingers that the redness will die down. I already have people staring at me.

@ seven star- that sounds like a cool unique. like me, i also have REALLY sensitive skin. for instance, if i bent down to pick up a pencil or tried to tie my shoes, my face quickly flushes with redness! i'm currently using the LOTION right now. how much difference does the cream make compared to aquaphor? i mean, aquaphor i heard gets as good as it gets with dry skin.. but maybe the cream might work? i don't know, i feel like nothing will work right now.

@ragginmuffin - yeah for some reason, my pictures look like i dont have acne. i think because most of the pictures i take, the lighting is good.

  17. I hate to keep complaining, but I'm already on day 8 and my skin is extremely red. People have been asking me if I'm drunk ( I turn red when I drink, asian glow) and I'm like no. Also, my face is extremely dry. No matter what I put on it, (cetaphil/aquaphor) my face still feels dry. Worse, when I put on aquaphor, i think it clogs my pores. any suggestions?! i feel like ripping my face off.

  18. Day 7

It's already day 7 and I don't think I can do this anymore. My cheeks are SOOOOOO DRY, reapplying moistorizer doesn't even do anything! My cheeks are extremely red -- people today asked me if my face got burnt during Spring Break. It's actually really embarassing. I hope I don't get roseaca from accutane. Also, my ribs are starting to hurt a bit too. I need motivation...

  19. DAY 6

Holy cow... the side effects are diff hitting me sooner than I thought! My face, especially my cheeks, look really red. It looks as if I went tanning or something. It looks even weirder because around my eye area, the skin's yellow. Took the pills, and I just cant get over how dry my skin feels! I just added a nice layer of cetaphil on my cheeks and above my lip area( the most dry - tzone is still pretty oily but flakey) and it still feels dry! any recs for the redness+dryness? i really hope i dont get rosacea from this..

  20. I am a 25 years old woman from the US currently living and working in Shanghai, China. I have had moderate acne since I was 12 and have tried countless perscription and over the counter medications. Some would make things better for a few months and then my acne would come back again full force. Over the years it has been sugested that I take Accutane by difrent doctors but I always declined bacause I was scared of the side effects and the IB. I always thought my acne would eventually go away on its own.

Since I have moved to China it has gotten a lot worse and so has my picking. I have no idea how people keep themselves from popping and picking their pimples, I find it impossible. I pick and pick until I get something out, sometimes making myself look as though I have leisons on my face. As I get older I realize the long lasting effects this could have on my poor skin. I finaly decided clear skin and peace of mind is worth the four months of side effects Accutane can cause.

I figured now would be the best time for me to take Accutane for a number of reasons:

    1. I am in China and do not have to deal with ipledge. I hate birth control!

    2. I am living on the opposite side of the world from the man I love and dont have to worry about getting pregnent. Also he will not be around to see the potential IB.

    3. It is a lot easier for me to not drink alcohol here as the Chinese are not big drinkers

So I went to a dermatologist and got the Accutane. It was quite easy. I weigh 50kg and am starting out at 30mg a day then moving to 60mg next month. I am doing all the blood tests myself at a nearby hospital. I have researched all the things to be tested and what the normal ranges are.

I am actualy a bit late starting this log as I am already on day 19. Things are going alright so far. However, my picking problem and accutane are proving to be a bad comination and I really must throw away my magifyng mirror before it is too late.

My skin is super flakey and easily ripped/torn. My lips are very chapped and they do not sell Aquaphor here so I have had to use Vaseline. Also my nose is dry but that isabout it. I am not tired, depressed, or sore. My skin has been breaking out but not any worse than usual. I do see all the blackheads around my nose comming to the surface which is amazing. Every pore is filled with dirt and I have been picking at it everyday. I know I need to stop. Anyone have any tips for not picking you face?

Anyway, hope everyone is getting clear. I will try to keep a continuous log of my experience.

  21. DAY 5

Woke up this morning with an extremely dry face! It felt really dry around my cheek area, and very oily around the nose and forehead. I decided not to use my cleanser today because it would probably make my face even more dry. Ate some lunch, took the pill, went to class, then proceeded to work out. I ran for a couple of minutes. Man, I don't think it was a good idea to go run. LOL. I felt really dizzy, might have been because I had within 2 hours or because of the accutane. I'm not really sure, but I know I didn't feel too well. Dinner came, took my pill, felt a lil bit better. Anywho, I just finished my shower and applied CETAPHIL Moistorizer. It feels refreshing on my face, but I can already feel it getting dry again?! Has anyone experience where their face is so dry that it gets really oily? hmm. oh yeah, i also noticed that im getting this painful pimple/cyst on my jawline. it hurts!
