Today is Day Seven of my 25% TCA Peel.

My forehead, temples, and the bridge of my nose are the only areas that have not fully peeled yet.

To help expedite the healing process, I am doing the following:

    1) applying cool compresses of white vinegar water (one tablespoon of vinegar to one cup of water) to my face three times a day

    2) applying tea bags twice a day to my entire face (the tannic acid is supposed to help with burns)

    3)  applying hydrocortisone at least three times a day.  My cheeks and chin look pretty normal now.  Just slightly pink, but nothing that looks out-of-the-ordinary.

The good is this:  I can begin to see areas where the skin is getting ready to peel.  So, I am hopeful that the healing process will continue as normal.

I think that my forehead is not healing as quickly this time because I may have applied too much acid and applied it a bit unevenly.

The only areas that have not peeled so far during this week's peel are:

    1) my forehead.  It's quite red and brown looking.
    2) my temples
    3) the bridge of my nose

I have been soaking gauze in one cup of cold water and one tablespoon of white vinegar and placing the gauze all over my forehead and cheek areas for about twenty minutes at a time.

Then, I am apply aloe vera all over my face and let it dry.  Then,  I apply hydrocortisone cream all over my face to help reduce the redness/pink color of my skin.

Before I go to bed, I will apply some coconut oil, let it soak in, and then add a burn ointment all over my face to keep my skin moist to promote continued healing.

Today is Day Six of my 25% TCA Peel.

The areas of my face that have peel so far include:

    1) 95% of my left cheek
    2) 80% or more of my right cheek
    3) 90% of both jawlines and my chin
    4) 70% of my chin and nose

The areas that have not peeled yet are still very brown.  The areas that have peeled are now pink or reddish in color.

One mistake that I made during the initial application of this peel was to remove my goggles and to apply a light layer of acid under my eyes.  The result was massive swelling under and around both of my eyes.  Hopefully, the swelling will subside before I have to return to work in three days.

I applied a hylauronic acid moisturizer on my face to my face this morning and then applied hydrocortisone cream to help reduce the swelling redness of my face.  Also, I applied 50 SPF sunscreen all over my face and neck.

Throughout the day today, I will be applying cold compresses on my face to help reduce and residual swelling and redness.

In terms of results, the best is yet to come as the collagen and elastic fibers begin to generate as a result of the peel.

In the photos below, the dark areas on my face are the areas that have not peeled yet.

Today is the fifth day of my 25% TCA at home peel.

Right now, I think that I look my worst.  I have a very tight shell of brownish/red skin covering the outer layer of my face and I have swelling around my eyes.

Based upon the tightness of my face right now, I would imagine that I am going to continue to peel heavily for the next 48 hours.  I have already had small sheets of skin come off, but I expect even larger sheets of dead skin to peel off like a snake over the next two days.

I am keeping my face lathered in burn ointment.  Last night, I put hydrocortisone cream around my eyes to help with the swelling and used ice packs, too.  I've never had this type of swelling around my eyes before, so I am really glad that I am at home and able to heal in the privacy of my own home.

I am going stir crazy and I can't wait for this healing process to end, though.  I'm ready to be able to go outdoors again and stop being a hermit.

I keep reminding myself about how good my skin looks a week after the peeling has subsided, so that keeps my mind in a good place.

Today is day four of my 25% TCA peel journey.

My face is very brown, tight, and feels as if I have saran wrap or cellophane tape wrapped around my wife.

My left and right eyes are swollen and look kind of droopy.  It appears that I have aged 20 years or so and my face is beginning to crinkle more and more.

Peeling has begun near both side of my nose and at the corners of my mouth and on my chin.

    Photos are below.

I'm growing a bit stir crazy since I have been cooped up in our home for the past four days.  I'm keeping my face slathered in burn ointment to help the healing process and I'll probably take another warm shower later today to help with the exfoliation/peeling process.

My face is becoming progressively tighter and tighter as the day goes on which is a very good sign.

As you can see below, my face has turned reddish/brown and it feels as if I am wearing a tight mask or have cellophane tape all over my face.

Tomorrow should be the beginning of a two or three days of intense peeling.

When I woke up this morning, I was a bit surprised when I looked in the mirror.

Both of my eyes have swollen and my right eye looks a bit droopy today due to all of the swelling.  I wore goggles when I applied the acid, but later removed them to apply a thin coat of acid under eyes and on the sides.  I didn't dare try to do my eyelids - too risky.

My face is pretty swollen, too, and it appears that I am wearing a brown mask on my face.

I suspect that peeling will begin either late this evening or sometime tomorrow as the cycle is pretty predictable based upon past peels.

    More photos to follow later.

It's evening time and I can feel the skin on my face beginning to tighten.

I've lathered my face in burn ointment to help with the healing process.  Our youngest son just told me that my face looks like an 'onion' and he can see visible signs of my face tightening because it's beginning to 'crinkle'.

I'll take his comments as proof positive that the process is working.

Looking forward to seeing what my face looks like tomorrow.

At 9:45 p.m. today, I decided to do two separate peels:

    1) A Jessner's Peel on my neck

I've never done a Jessner peel before, but I read in several places that it is safe to do this type of peel on your neck.

I washed my neck thoroughly and then put alcohol on a cotton pad and removed any oil and soap from my neck.

I purchased the peel from www.skinobsession.com and I applied three coats on my neck.  My skin became red, but it didn't frost.

    2) A 25% TCA peel on my face

I believe that this is my seventh 25% TCA peel.

I washed my face and then applied alcohol on a cotton pad to remove any oil and soap from my face.

I put on a shower cap to pull my hair back from my face and put on swimming goggles. You definitely want eye protection with this type of peel.

I put on rubber gloves and applied a total of three layers of the 25% acid to my face.

My  face frosted and I took several photos.  It was very painful and I had a fan in our bathroom which I positioned to blow directly on my face.  It certainly helped to reduce the pain.

I covered my face with burn ointment and I will be sequestered in our home for the next week while my skin peels and heals.

    Photos to follow.

It's been less than 24 hours since I applied the Jessner's Solution to my neck and the 25% TCA acid to my face.

This morning, you can definitely see where I applied the acid to my face there is a clearly defined 'line of demarcation' between the skin treated with the acid (kind of reddish/tan) and the untreated skin (white, normal looking skin.

I hope that my neck peels, but I have never used a Jessner's Solution peel, so we shall see how that goes.

I am glad that I have done many TCA peels in the past.   Otherwise, they are kind of scary because the acid is quite strong and is painful when applied to your face.  But, the results have always been worth it for me.

Today is day six after my 25% TCA Peel.

I have a red streak over my right eye brow from the peel and I got the same thing last year. Must be an area which is very sensitive to chemical burns.

I went out of the house today with an SPF 50 sunscreen on my face and burn ointment over my right eyebrow.

My face is a slight pink color and my skin looks very healthy.
  13. mr. matt
As of today, I would say that 70% of my face has peeled so far:

    1) both cheeks
    2) chin

The following areas are now beginning to appear ready to peel:

    1) my temples
    2) my nose
    3) my forehead

I continue to keep my face covered with sunscreen (SPF 30) and a burn ointment.

I actually ventured out of the house last night after the sun had gone down with my wife.

I am hoping that the rest of the dead skin will come off in the next 24 hours or so. I don't like being cooped up the house, but the results are always worth it.

Today is day four of my 25% TCA peel.

I woke up to a very tight face - it feels as if I am wearing a very tight brown mask all over my face.

As I mentioned in my previous post, my face has begun to peel around my nose and mouth areas.

Hopefully, I will experience some major peeling within the next 24-48 hours.

O.K. it is now three days out from my TCA peel.

My wife told me this morning that my face looks swollen and like I have a bad sunburn/tan all over my face.

She said that the skin on my face is beginning to tighten and look crinkly/shriveled.

I've lathered my face with 50% sunscreen and covered it with a burn ointment.

Looking forward to a successful peel.......

It's been less than 24 hours since I applied the 25% TCA peel solution to my face.

My entire face looks somewhat red/pink/brown and you can definitely see a difference between where the acid was applied to my face and where my jaw line meets my neck. My neck looks normal with no reddish/brown look.

I coated my face in the same burn ointment that I applied last night.

My face is a little bit itchy this morning because I couldn't shave this morning and my facial hair is growing in.

The only part about doing a 25% TCA peel that I don't like is the five day down period where you are forced to stay indoors and can't be in the sun.

The good news, however, is that by this Friday, my skin will have peeled completely and the collagen regeneration process will have begun.

My skin look its best about 90 days out and I will be going back to work a week from today.

Now, it's 'hurry up and wait'. My skin will molt like a snake in a few days revealing new skin underneath.

At 9:45 p.m last night, I washed my face with Ivory Soap and water and then applied alcohol to my face with a cotton square to remove any residual soap, dirt, and oil from my skin.

I then put on a shower cap to keep my hair off of my forehead and put on a pair of swimming goggles to protect my eyes.

Then, I poured a portion of the 25% TCA peel solution into a glass bowl and applied the first layer to my forehead, followed by my temples, nose, cheeks, and chin area.

Everything frosted as expected and burned like crazy. I couldn't find a fan, so I just suffered through the burning sensation for about five minutes.

I applied a total of three layers of the TCA solution to my face. Last summer, I applied five layers and my face became extremely brown and leathery. Last year, I was worried that perhaps I had overdone it and damaged my skin.

So, I only applied three layers this year.

After about 20 minutes, I rinsed my face with cold water and removed any remaining trace of the TCA from my skin.

I then applied a burn ointment to my entire face and went to bed.

Today marks day seven of my fifth 25% TCA peel.

I took a shower this morning and shaved off one week's worth of growth off of my face and I am pleased to report that my skin looks great and has a slightly pink hue to it along with a small scaly patch under my right eye. There are some small scaly patches along my hairline and near my eyebrows.

All in all, this was another successful peel for me. I ventured out yesterday to visit my younger brother and father and put on sunscreen with a SPF of 100 and sunblock on top of that. I am not about to risk any hyperpigmentation issues after this peel.

According to what I have read and experienced, collagen production should continue to occur over the course of the next several weeks and months.

I did take a final warm shower this afternoon before my doctor's appointment to help loosen any remaining dead skin attached to my face and it did the trick! 99.99% of the dead skin from the peel has now fallen off.

I had a 3:00 p.m. appointment at the dermatologist's office today and the RN asked where I got my 'sunburn'. I told her that she really didn't want to know.

My face is pink and reddish and it does appear that I have a sunburn. I put both sunscreen and sunblock on my face today and avoided any direct sunlight.

Hopefully, my skin will continue to improve over the next several days and the appearance of a sunburn will go away.

    Another successful 25% TCA peel.

I kept waking up throughout the night last night as my face felt really tight especially my forehead.

This morning, I took a look at my face and much of the swelling has now subsided. I still have a little around the lower portion of my eyes, but that appears to be it.

I had huge swaths of brown skin all over my face when I first got up and took a look at my face in the mirror.

I took a long, warm shower and made sure to get the warm water on my face. I could feel the skin beginning to loosen on my forehead and on my cheeks and chin.

After showering, I could see more dead/brown skin had loosed and was falling off of my face.

Ironically enough, I have a 3:00 p.m. appointment at the dermatologist's office for something totally unrelated to this peel and I hope to look a bit more normal when I arrive there.

I plan on taking a second warm shower this afternoon to see if that loosens the few brown patches which remain from this 25% TCA peel.

The skin that was revealed from the areas that have peeled looks somewhat pink and very healthy.

Hopefully, my skin will look even better tomorrow after another 24 hours.
  21. mr. matt
    O.K. The peeling has begun.

I am beginning to resemble snake who is shedding its skin.

The peeling began around my nose area and has now spread to my chin. My face is coming off in small sheets and I can feel it loosening in other areas as well.

I can see where the skin is beginning to detach under my eyes and I expect that by tomorrow morning, I'l have a lot more skin peeling away.

Ironically, I have a 3:00 p.m. appointment at the dermatologists office tomorrow for something totally unrelated to this chemical peel. I am hoping that the peel will have subsided by then.

I am keeping my face lathered in Aquaphor in an effort to keep it moist and to promote faster healing.....
  22. mr. matt
    9:15 a.m.

Today is the fourth day since my 25% TCA Peel.

I face has turned a very brown/reddish color and my face basically looks like leather.

The skin on my face has progressively become tighter and tighter as time has passed this week. Furrows and wrinkles are forming all over my face making my face resemble a shriveled pumpkin. I appear to be aging very quickly due to the outer layers of my epidermis detaching themselves from the lower levels of skin.

My face feels very tight and dry even though I have lathered it with Aquaphor.

I am hoping that it will begin to peel soon as I have a doctor's appointment late tomorrow afternoon and I am scheduled to go out of town on Saturday. Right now, I look pretty scary.
  23. mr. matt
I have kept my face covered in Aquaphor all day today in the hopes of expediting the healing process.

My face looks very brown and shiny right now. I expect that the outer layers of skin will begin to detach themselves very slowly over the course of the next 24 hours and my skin should become progressively tighter and tighter.

Hopefully, I'll see some major peeling in two days (if all goes well).

This is the time in the recovery/healing process that I always second guess myself. However, my skin always peels and returns to normal after a week.
  24. mr. matt
11:00 a.m. Today, my face looks extremely tan/brown all over and my skin is beginning to tighten.

I can see the faint beginning of skin peeling on my left cheek and my skin is beginning to look 'crinkly' and 'wrinkly'.

Based upon my appearance today, I fully suspect that I will peel heavily this week.

My skin is beginning to become 'itchy' which is a sign that the upper layers of skin are getting ready to separate from the lower layers.
  25. mr. matt
I woke up a couple of times during the night because my face hurt.

This morning, I took a look in the mirror and my face looks like I have a very minor tan and it feels somewhat tight.

Based upon my experience with this in the past, the skin on my face should become progressively tighter and tighter and begin to peel in about two to three days.

For those of you reading this blog who have acne scars, while a 25% TCA peel does help a lot with collagen development, if you have tethered scars, this type of peel will not diminish the appearance of your scarring.

If you have tethered scars and have gone through subcision, this type of peel may help generate the production of collagen in your skin.

Here are some things that I have noticed after having done four of these 25% TCA peels:

    1) it helps to even out the tone of your skin.

    2) it helps to tighten your skin

    3) it helps to remove fine lines.

If I can get my camera to work properly, I will document how my face changes over the course of the next several days as the peeling process begins. I have an appointment with my dermatologist at 3:00 p.m. this Friday, so I am hoping that my face looks somewhat normal by then.
