  1. I agree that most people operate barely above the lizard brain level and thus skin deep looks are all that matter to them.... I agree with a lot about what you said in that the majority of people are chasing things that do not bring true happiness! I started a thread on another forum asking why in the world celebs who have more money than God would commit suicide (or die from drug OD which is a form of suicide perhaps since you could always die from it) ... My premise was that with millions o
  2. Hi peeps! So I will be making a phone call soon to another Dr's office in the Boston MA area. The clinic that I got my previous consult from a month or so ago wanted me to do Fraxel Laser treatments (up to 6 of them!) to the tune of $1000 each! Who did they think they were tying to kid??? I am vain, but not that vain and desperate - especially as I have gotten older! Wisely I had read this forum for several months before going to that first consult and I did not bite on that offer!
  3. Whenever I am feeling this way, I look at this graphic and try to reflect on the truth in each of the statements... Zen
  4. Please do try to calm down a little... You are 16 and life does get better when you are older! Right now it seems like dating, looking good, having better stuff than someone else etc. are the most important things in the world.... Well, I am turning 30 next month and from all that I have seen/read/heard so far proves otherwise... It is the culture and mainstream media that pushes the idea that everyone has to have model looks or else they won't find a life partner. That is not true because
  5. When I was younger I was basically forced to go to church almost every Sunday because my mom made me go. I can't really remember if I believed anything that was preached back then. In high school I was too busy to go to church and in college I was also busy but did not go because all of my close friends did not go.... I went to a science/tech college. I was basically an agnostic or atheist during those years. I certainly can see how nowadays with all the science and technological
  6. I am sure I am not alone in having frustrations with dating/sex/LTRs etc. Warning, what I post below may be TMI, but I feel it is necessary to post the details since where else on the internet is acne and all of its associated effects on oneself discussed?? Basically, about 5-10 years ago (the years in between my accutane courses), a blood test ordered by my derm revealed that I had slightly higher than normal levels of free testosterone and cortisol in my blood. Those levels are
  7. Makes sense now! A lot of what those two posted about and said didn't really make sense nor pass the smell test...
  8. Bumpee: When the people did those things, did you have active acne that they could easily see? Or did you have mainly just acne scarring?
  9. Were they removed because she was trolling? A lot of the topics in the threads she started and/or replied in seemed way to far off the mark for her to be actual sufferer of acne as bad as she claimed she had it... I'm just curious and I know I'm not the only one who probably wondered the same about that forum poster...
  10. Two very well written posts! It definitely does seem like getting over one's own thoughts and fears is the hardest part about our struggle. I am almost 30 and have only started thinking about or realizing some of the things if your posts in only the past few years of my 15 years struggle with acne.
  11. Hi all. Even though some people on here may think the scarring that I have (shown in threads with pics I have posted) is not that bad, it is obvious that it is enough to greatly impact the way I interact with other people.... So much so, that I have tried to get SSDI (disability for those not in the states), but the case manager said that severe acne, even with documented history of needing anti-anxiety meds for more than 15 years, IS NOT a disability that qualifies!!!! WTF!!! It seems
  12. I have a few questions specifically for women with adult acne and scarring. More specifically, women who use makeup to cover acne scarring. Would you be more willing to date a man (or another woman if you are lesbian) who has acne scarring compared to a man/woman who does not? The reason I ask is to see if you generally would be more inclined to date someone who knows the struggles and pain you have been through. Furthermore, some men's attractiveness to you may change if they see you withou
  13. So after searching the web or a while, it seems like I could only find derma rollers with decent reviews and quality (not made in China) that are sold direct through websites and not on Amazon.com. Anyone have experience with the Dr Roller sold direct through this site? http://www.dermarollershop.com/shop/dermarollers/
  14. A fat woman here with whole body acne. Just letting you know. What you said is awful. If us fat women doesn't get you hot that doesn't mean you have to hate us and judge us. I am sorry to hear about your condition. Due to my social anxiety, what I said in the OP did not come across well. I merely wanted to mention that certain men won't care about acne scarring in much the same way that certain men don't care about a partner's weight. It certainly was a rant of sorts....
  15. Hi all. So I have been researching at home derma-rolling to reduce my acne scars and it seems like something I want to try for at least a few months. I have watched numerous utube vids and read quite a bit online. However, I cannot seem to find a country to buy from that is known for quality products. I would only trust a derma-roller (since it is a medical device) made in these countries: UK, Germany, France, Japan, and S. Korea. I do not trust rollers made in China based on what I have r
  16. Thankfully the only health issues I have other than acne/scarring are: 1) need glasses or contacts all the time, 2) an annoyingly high sex drive caused by having above average Free T in the blood.... I am glad though that my drive has taken a nose dive as I approach 30; it has made it much easier to get through the day. It is also probably a given that those who have/had severe acne/scarring also have some mental health effects from it. Be it, depression, anxiety, etc. I have had anxiety fo
  17. I think I read this on reddit somewhere (can always count on that site for unconventional wisdom and insight :-) ). Someone mentioned that one shouldn't be so concerned whether or not they pass on their genes. The post pointed out that say someone had a child or children, but then some unforeseeable event happened and that child(ren) died before they could have children.... Just because someone has kids, doesn't mean that their genes are "eternal".... They may be passed on to one generation
  18. I agree with your reasoning and having some biology and science education myself, it makes sense that Lasers should probably be the last treatment used: a means of polishing off and fine tuning.... The good news is that I didn't commit to any contract; I only went for the consultation and got a quote. In fact, the more I research about Fraxel restore and laser treatments, the more skeptical I am that they actually produce long lasting results.... One thing I am looking more into is a dermarol

  20. I recently had an appt/consultation with a derm in the Boston, MA area that provides various procedures for acne scarring. I let him know early on that did prior research on the types of scarring and various options (subcision, fillers, laser, etc). I mentioned that I had read that fillers should be used first if one has very bad atrophic scarring (volumes loss) and then perhaps Lasers. The Dr. suggested the opposite that fillers won't make much difference on sunken left cheek area and that F
  21. I am less likely to help other normal looking (yes normal looking includes fat/obese ppl these days in the USA and many western nations) people with anything.... Less likely to stop and see if that car pulled over on the road's shoulder needs any help changing a tire, etc. Less likely to help that old lady at the supermarket reach something on the top shelf or lift something that is heavy. etc etc etc. Why? I don't believe that I am a more bitter person because of my acne; rather, I think
  22. @ AlexanderJ86: In not only my opinion, "fat" means more weight than being thick. Thick is generally accepted as a woman who has curves, but is still height-weight proportional (HWP). Thick is probably synonymous with "curvy". A woman is probably objectively "fat" is she no longer has the curves that a thick woman has. Also, calm down everyone! I am sorry that I may have may some people mad, but I really felt like I needed to say what thousands of men who have acne/scarring are probably thi
  23. Ok, let me start of by saying that I can refer to myself as a "philosopher" because I am 30 years old, unmarried, no kids, and have a graduate degree in engineering. Not having a GF/wife and kids, I have had a lot of time to think about things, read, watch, etc. What I say below is not an attack on women, but rather it should give women on this board who have mild to severe acne and/or scarring some hope that they will find a BF/husband, etc. I know that I am not the only male who believes th
