  1. I think all the exfoliation is overkill. Just use a gentle cleanser and moisturizer, and give it a little time. If it's been a week or so and your face still looks dull, try using Alpha Hydrox oil-free formula at night for awhile.
  2. Aveeno ultra-calming foaming cleanser and Eucerin Q10 SPF 15 moisturizer.
  3. I'm not saying that this cleanser is the sole reason that I cleared up-- age (coupled with cutting out all products besides cleanser) may have taken care of the bulk of my acne. However, it seems that Aveeno ultra-calming foaming cleanser pushes me over the hurdle from mostly clear skin to completely clear skin. So I hope I didn't give anybody false hope about this product being a miracle.
  4. I just wanted to suggest that you try Aveeno ultra-calming foaming cleanser if you haven't given it a shot yet. The first cleanser to really make a positive difference for me was Eucerin Pore Purifying Wash (which I posted about previously). When I used that, I had a significant reduction in acne, and had only a few small pimples at a time. Then I ran out of it and fortuitously came across the Aveeno. I used it for four months and had the clearest skin I've had since I was 12 years old (I'm
  5. I think the concern with using Differin during the day is that it, like all retinoids, will make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
  6. If you haven't picked up a new cleanser yet, I recommend Eucerin Pore Purifying wash. It has very few ingredients and it's gentle. Moreover, it lathers so I think you could use it for shaving. I can only find it online (drugstore.com, amazon.com) but I think some pharmacies might have it. If you can't find it, then the next thing I'd recommend is Aveeno Ultra-Calming foaming cleanser. However, it's a foam- i.e. it doesn't lather per se, so it probably wouldn't be the best for shaving.
  7. Do you eat acidic foods regularly? Sometimes when I binge on oranges or tomatoes, I get sores in my mouth.
  8. dumbmrblah, I don't get rashes that leave behind blemishes so I can't offer any advice there. But when I get really stressed or tired, my face turns reddish and radiates heat. Ugh. Some of us just have what can only be described as "bad skin" in general.
  9. I second that suggestion. Eucerin Pore Purifying cleanser is non-medicated, non-drying, and cleanses dirt and oil well. It's my favorite.
  10. Oops, I posted this in the wrong forum. I didn't intend to post it in the "over-the-counter acne medications" forum, lest anybody think I meant for antihistamines to be used for treatment of acne. If a mod could move it to a more appropriate forum (e.g. the general acne forum) I'd appreciate it.
  11. I've been taking antihistamines for about a month for allergies that cropped up as a result of being in a different environment. My face has largely cleared up-- I still have a somewhat rough skin texture, but not much visible inflammatory acne. Coincidence--I'm just finally outgrowing it at age 20? Or are the antihistamines preventing inflammatory acne? Please note that I am not advocating the use of antihistamines for the treatment of acne. I am just wondering if anybody else has noticed a
  12. It does a good job of removing dirt and oil, but without making you dry. What I really like is that it is simple--no fragrance or colors--so you're not putting unnecessary junk on your face. It hasn't cleared me up, but I didn't expect it to work that miracle. If you want a good gentle cleanser, this is great.
  13. That'd be awesome if there was a generic Yasmin. I'm paying a little over $38/month for the stuff! Thanks alot, insurance, what a help you are. Yasmin hasn't done much of anything for my acne but the regulated cycle without awful cramps is great and I'm too scared to switch to a cheaper birth control because I'm afraid another pill will make me gain weight or give me cystic acne.
  14. Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle with SPF 15. Love the stuff, it's the best of the four moisturizers I've tried (the others being Neutrogena Oil-Free, Cetaphil, and Olay Complete). Not greasy, but thick enough to moisturize well.
