  1. Did any of you, who are currently taking accutane or finished with the treatment, experience worsening of the skin problems from the accutane? My skin just looks so much worse now... No zits...just scars (indented ones). I only had one chicken pock scar when I started accutane...now I have about 20!!! What the hell is that all about? I didn't even break out that much and I was so proud that I didn't pick at anything! Anyone out there with similar results? I'm so disappointed and
  2. I wish I had this thought before taking accutane! I took it for 5 and a half months, and yes...it is too risky. I HATE the results!! I can't stress the word HATE enough here. I looked so much better before I took it and that's because I only had one chicken pock scar on my face...NOW after accutane, I have about 20!!!!!! I could have dealt with the zits and oily skin and surely could have found a way to control that without ruining my skin. I can see why people are depressed after taking a
  3. I did mention that I had large pores and a few zits here and there, so it wasn't just for the oil. I said I never had bad acne, never cystic by any means. The derm just felt that accutane would help shrink the oil glands and refine the pores a little, all while getting rid of the few zits that popped up here and there. It's not a strange case at all...I've heard of people taking accutane that didn't have cystic acne, but very mild acne. In fact, the derm and the nurses said they see people a
  4. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only took it because my skin was oily and my pores were enlarged because of the oil. I never had bad acne...only a couple of zits here and there. My derm said accutane is the only thing that helps with all of that. I took 40 mg a day for 6 months and although no zits, my skin looks like shit! I have red marks on my cheek and SCARS scattered about from who knows what! I only got bad acne when I started taking accutane from the breakout (which was mostly one my right ch
  5. Hi Yellowsloth, I was told about the free accutane through my derm. I had to apply for it there and they sent it to roche lab (New Jersey, I think) for me. Roche then had to approve the app. (which took almost a month) and then they sent the supply to my derm's office. I got a seven-month supply for free. I just go in to the derm every month for the tests and to pick up my 30-day supply. Very cool since I could never afford to pay for it out of my own pocket. Anyway, hope that helps.
  6. Ok, How many of you out there are actually taking accutane for mild to moderate acne...NOT cystic acne? I'm just curious, cuz I'm one who is and want to know if it actually helps in the long run or should I have just stuck with antibiotics and/or topicals? Thanks for any info! btw, I take 40 mg. daily and have been for three months now. Still have about three months left.
  7. Hey Urchin! This is a very late reply, but I was just searching topics and came across this one. I feel the same way you do! I don't know if you're male or female, but I'm female and have the same kind of skin you described. I asked others about this on the board, but haven't had many replies, which makes me feel worse...anyway I recently found an article in some health mag that describes skin types. The oily skin type was described as resembling the peel of an orange. So, see? We're pre
  8. Hi! I've written posts about this subject before, but desparately need someone to help me with this. Does anyone have greatly enlarged pores covering much of their face like I do? I have them on my chin, nose, cheeks, and in between eyebrows. I can't stand it anymore! I'm currently taking 40 mg. of accutane to help with oil and mild breakouts. The derm told me the accutane would help reduce the size of my pores in the long run, but from doing research...nothing will reduce their size
  9. Thanks Mercer & May for replies! May, I think we should keep each other posted on our progress on accutane, since we both have been on it the same amount of time and all that. I'm going to suggest to my derm to maybe let me take 40 mg. one day and 80 mg. the next. I've heard of people taking weird doses like that...2 pills on even days and one on odd. What are you using on your lips, btw? I use Aquaphor ointment on mine and it's GREAT! I also use Visine Natural Tears for my eyes, b
  10. Hi May! Sorry it took me so long to reply...I've been really busy. I've been on accutane just as long as you...two months. How much do you take a day? I take 40 mg. every day and still have four months to go. I hope my HUGE pimples quit popping up soon. I can't seem to let them clear up on their own, either. Once they get whiteheads on them (gross, I know), I pop them with a needle, cuz I'm scared they'll get bigger and leave a scar. I'm sure that's not the best thing to do.. but I'm ver
  11. Hi! I've had four microderm treatments done and just want to know who else has done it and what your experiences were with it! Did you have good or bad results? Thanks for replies!
  12. Hi again, I forgot to mention... I weigh 110 lbs and this dose of accutane hasn't been bad for me. The only side effects I have are dry lips, dry facial skin (not too bad, though) and some low back pain if I've been sitting for long periods. Other than that, it's been fine. If you do decide to take the accutane...whatever you do, DON'T PICK AT YOUR FACE!! Your skin is very delicate while on it and it can scar easier. Let the accutane do it's job.
  13. Hi Dani! I, too, starting taking Minocycline in the summer and continued it until September. I got sick about that time, cuz antibiotics kill all the good bacteria in your body as well as the bad bacteria. Anyway, after I got sick, I decided I didn't want to take the Minocin anymore. It was helping my skin to stay somewhat clear and smooth except I was more concerned with my large pores and oily skin, so the derm suggested a low-dose accutane. My acne was not bad at all! I started taking 4
  14. Hey Nessa! Thanks for that reply! I, too, have the large pores on my cheeks, but also on my chin, and in between my eyebrows. Basically, all over! I'm taking accutane right now because the doc said it would help with shrinking my pores a little and to make my skin less oily in the long run. I'm starting to think that it's a waste of time. If what you said is true about the oil returning full force once off accutane, then what's the point?!? My skin does look a little better while I'm taki
  15. Hi Lexie! I feel the same way! All I seem to do now is look at everyone's skin to see if theirs is the same or worse than mine. It's so sad, cuz I used to have great skin up until about eight or nine months ago. I never looked at other people's skin and never was concerned about mine. I used to just throw on a little makeup and think "Hey, I look good" and that was it! I used to have so many boyfriends and used to be so confident! Now, I feel like the only reason people look at me is beca
