  1. Dear readers, Just a quick update. been grooving on the FCLO (fermented cod liver oil) zinc pincolinate, 2x daily spearmint tea and 1x daily green tea for about a month now. also been using tazorac for about a month. was doing wonderfully until about a week ago...i'm thinking combo of really gnarly eating (we're talking ice cream and doritos for dinner) stress, PMS, and getting my hair done (the salon products always seem to end up on my face) etc have been tripping me up, plus some init
  2. Hi there. I wanted to know if you have any updates with your eyes and skin? Did you end up finishing your course or did you have to temporarily stop? I'm about to finish my first month (80 mg/day) and I had really dry eyes too. My optometrist said I had keratitis, so I've been putting eye drops + gel drops in my eyes religiously. Just wanted to hear an update from another person. Hope you're feeling better! Hi molarbear sorry but I only have bad news i came back in for a checkup 2
  3. The spearmint thing is real! I got super busy and lazy with drinking my tea and my skin went NUTS. I hadn't had a cyst in weeks and I woke up with 4! It also threw my period off, from 28 to 34 days from going a week without the tea. definitely consistency is key with it, but at least i know it is doing something!! Back on that regimen for sure. I also finally filled my script for .1% Zorac gel (Tazorac in the US) to replace the Atrain (tretonin .05) i had been using. It is a much stronger t

  5. I've been doing the spearmint thing for a while now so I can comment that I can definitely see a difference in my skin. I'm still breaking out but my skin is MUCH less oily. It was so oily to begin with that it's still a bit slick on my t-zone by the end of the day, but compare that with looking like my whole face was covered in Crisco by 10AM. I've also switched back to a moisturizing bb cream and to my less drying cleanser because my chin was starting to peel from dryness! My zits have als
  6. So I've now been using spearmint tea for nearly a month. I can't say its' made a dramatic difference so far, but I'm going to keep it up for a few cycles to see if it kicks in. I did notice that my period came RIGHT on day 28, which it never does (usually its more like day 30-33). I'm cautiously optimisitc that this is a good sign. I've been breaking out more in small-medium papules than cysts (knock on wood!) though the effect is still pretty awful, especially since a pus-filled zit i
  7. Thanks Cici I'll have to check out your blog good luck!!
  8. Hi All, In this post I will detail some of the things I am going to try to use to heal my acne. I'll try to include info about studies, etc. or links where I can. First, what I have tried in the past in breif: Conventional: Birth control (ortho tri clyclen & yasmin), doxycyclene, minocyclene, duac, finacea, aczone, prescription sulfer washes, benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, accutane (had to end course at 5 weeks due to eye side effects) proactiv, sal acid, glycolic acid, clarison
  9. Hi guys, I'm back with a new blog. After my failed attempt at an Accutane course and a lot of soul-searching, I'm attempting to use a combination of low-risk, proven conventional treatments and clinically researched alternative treatments to try to clear my acne. I have already tried a LOT of treatments, ranging from the conventional to the hippie to the kind-of-crazy, and have had various degrees of success. However I still have not found a long-term solution I can tolerate or I would
  10. Thanks for the response, I'm glad it worked for you! Were you doing this under medical supervision or was it a personal experiment?
  11. I think that is pretty clearly encapsulated in "everything from the conventional to the hippie-dippie to the borderline insane." I'm glad the basic stuff works for you though...if only! I actually developed disordered eating from obsessively eliminating foods to try to cure my acne, and spent tons of time and $ doing hours and hours of yoga as well as running...no avail. A healthy diet certianly doesn't hurt, but for people with the serious 'ne it just ain't enough.
  12. Hi guyssss! I finally got in with an eye doctor in my new country and he said my eyes are completely normal. They still feel somewhat dry to me but nothing some drops won't fix. I'm also cleared for wearing contacts again (though I had already started to wear them again for special occasions once things normalised). I am considering going back on tane at a VERY low dose (2.5-10 mgs/day) if my acne keeps up. I am back to having very oily skin and hair and acne just as bad as pre-tane I
  13. Hi guys! As you can see in my blog, I took 40mg/day accutane for 4 weeks and 5 days of accutane at 60mgs/day. I developed pretty severe superficial punctate keratitis (basically eye ecxcema...ouch) and had to go off. Things went back to normal pretty quickly except for my eyes are now a little drier than they were and I don't tolerate contact lenses as well. My skin was clearing beautifully on the tane and I had no other effects, but since my course was so short I was back to my extreme
  14. Sorry to take so long to respond! I use tretonin .05% (brand I use is Atralin) but other examples of good ones are retin-a micro and tazorac. Tazorac is a bit stronger than .05% tretonin so I am going to try that next to see if it works better than the atralin, which seems to be "wearing off" a little. As a side note, this site can be a catch-22...while its full of good information and sometimes some much-needed comfort in commiseration, it is also full of people with bad skin, so very few p
  15. aha. I can see from the pictures you are having inflamatory acne when i thought from the description is was just clogged pores. BP will help with that! good luck, your skin is already looking much better! and yeah, i live in ireland, have so much trouble finding BP. i wonder why they banned it? it doens't really seem harmful at all.
