    Hi oran,

Glad to hear finally you have done 25 excision for your scars, I hope you'll see a great result!! I'm happy with my result too, still have redness but slowly faded. Good luck with your healing, keep us update with your progress!

Did u use 2 or 4% of hydroquinone?

I used 2% hydroquinone, my dermatologist just prescribed 4% hydroquinone, will start to use it now.

Your results r very good. Can you pm ur PS contact details?

I have pm the details :)
  3. I'm going to be really honest. If by normal looking skin you mean like the acne never happened, that is not yet possible. Sometimes dramatic improvement is possible, I've seen it, but "normal" skin is still out of reach with current available treatments. We can only strive for improvement. Dermabrasion helps to soften the edges of scars and to flatten the ridges of scars so that they create less of a shadow. It will not give you normal appearing skin. I've done spot dermabrasion, and it does help for select scars, but it does not give you the look of untouched, normal skin.

    Thanks blahblah.

I just want a skin that I'm happy with, not a perfection cause like you said earlier, that still out of reach. I attached before and after picture, that's my current pic, I have tried turmeric mask, aloe vera, hydroquinone, it help a bit but I'm really impatience, lol. I had redness after needling, so I stopped needling. Do you think peeling will help with redness?

  4. Yes poppy I agree with blahblah, dermabrasion is extremely agressive for your type of scarring, none of your scars are deep and dermabrasion may damage your skin and cause new scars.

I have read that excision does take a while to properly heal, and the redness does lessen over time but it takes a while, I also think that you should not needle any scars and continue allowing the excision to heal, If i was you I would wait a year before the second excision and any other invasive treatment, for now the safest thing is to apply redness reducing ointments.

The reason I advise not to needle is because it could interfere with your excision healing causing the excised areas to open up and cause pitting and you dont want to have to re excise the areas already done.

Thanks for ur advice! I think right now I have to focus to get rid redness first. I tried not to think about my skin too much but it's hard. My scars have improved but I'm really desperate to improve my skin texture.

I have read about glycolic acid peel to help with redness, what do u guys think? I'm a bit terrified cause there possibilities I would make thing worse.

  5. Poppy please do NOT do full face dermabrasion. That's insanely aggressive and totally unnecessary. If you choose to do dermabrasion only do spot dermabrasion. Do not let any doctor convince you to do full face. I've seen a few disasters on asian skin, and is unpredictable when done on a large area. Dermabrasion should only ever be used in a very limited capacity.

Why would you sand down normal skin? Your scarring is not severe at all and it seems the excisions have helped.

Excision have helped my scars but my skin doesn't look smooth, thought that dermabrasion will help improve my skin texture. But from what you mentioned above, sounds too risky. I know my skin would never be perfect, I'm desperate to have "normal" skin. What can I do to improve my skin texture?
  6. WOW! Poppy your improvement is really impressive, you look fantastic. I hadn't heard much about excision until recently and now I'm considering getting it done...I have mostly rolling scars but one inch long boxcar scar that's at least half an inch wide. It's really disfiguring :( Oh, and to the person who mentioned Dermaflage as a means of filling in scars, I've tried it and it works really well. It's a topical filler that mimics human skin and really does work, but it cant be used on shallow scars. I use it on my two deepest scars.

    Thanks missamua!

Excision improved pitted scars, but I still have this uneven skin texture. I'll schedule for dermabrasion, still debating whether I'll do spot dermabrasion or full face. I think icepick and boxcar scars respond well with excision. Subcision and filler work well for rolling scars, I don't know whether you can do excision for rolling scar, I might be wrong though. Best of luck!

  7. Hey poppy,

How long did you wait after Accutane before going with the excision surgery? I'm asking because doctors usually recommend patients to wait 6months-1 year for abrasive skin procedures after taking Accutane because the skin needs to recover and heal. I wonder how many milligrams of accutane you were taking and for how long. My second question is how long did it take for the red marks to fade after the first and second excision surgery?

I took low dose Accutane, 10mg/day, I waited for 1 year before excision. Redness fade after 1 month.

  9. hey poppy, hows your healing going along, is the track marks invisible now?

    Hey attwater20,

I'm back! Sorry for slow response, been really busy lately :)

Those track marks are hardly noticeable now but still have some redness, I tried turmeric and aloe vera mask, will see how it goes, finger crossed!

Recently, I've been doing needling in some scars that didn't get excise, I think it work, some indentation now become more like a linear scars and some level up with the rest of skin, will see the result a month from now. If it worked then I wouldn't need 2nd excision and just get dermabrasion straight away.

How did it go with your consultation?

  12. thanks for your response poppy, i was wondering now how your progress is.

    Hi oran..

So your surgeon said that the redness will be fade in time, my surgeon said the same, I know I shouldn't worry too much but couldn't help myself not to..lol..but thanks anyway..

poppy does your surgon see international patients do you think he was good where are u based cause its impossible to get a good plastic surgon here in the uk to do excision. Do you believed this can also be done on small ice picks or not.
Yes excision can be done for icepick and boxcar scar. I'm based in Indonesia, it's an International Hospital. Well, I think it's better if you could find local surgeon in your country. I trust my surgeon, he gave me hope, he's like fairy good mother for me, lol!
thanks poppy do you mind personal messeging your plastic surgons details just in case i have been looking for a plastic surgon know for so long. If i dont find one soon i think will have to fly to philiphines hows your treatment going anyway any updates?. Are the surgical scars better?

hey hope01, i also am in the uk looking for a plastic surgeon for excision, I saw a youtube video of aurora clinics based in northampton that seem from the video i watched do excision, I have emailed them asking whether they do scalpel excision and costs, will let you know what their response is.

I would say the scars improved, redness almost fade, stitches mark become softer and some of them gone. For upcoming excision I'll have stitches take out at day 5 so it'll prevent any stitches mark, it really depend on ur skin healing ability, if you can get spot test, excised 1 scar to see how it heal. I hope you'll find a good surgeon to do excision, it really depend on surgeon skill and after care. Good luck!

  13. Poppy, you might want to try massaging your scars vigorously, back and forth. It is said to help stimulate collagen production in the skin, thus regenerating new skin cells. :) i tried it personally and I guess i an seeing significant results. I am on day 1. :)

    Thanks for the info..

I've been massaging my surgery scar, it works with new scar cause still in healing process. I'll keep massaging my scar!

  16. Hi everyone

I have been a long time silent reader on the acne.org forums just like some other members have also mentioned but have only got the courage to actively participate now after the hope i got from seeing poppys brave decision for excision and her good progress

i just want to say poppy you look really great, if you dont mind could you please tell me how the skin feels where the area has been excised, does the skin feel level with the rest of your skin when you pass your hand over the excised area?

I am hoping to get excisions done for my deepest ice pick scars but am really scared and dont know anyone in the UK to do it

I dont know if you are allowed to put aloe vera gel poppy but i think if you can it will fade out some of the redness more quicker, maybe ou can ask your surgeon?

btw your forehead scar looks visually impossible to see now after the excision, its basically perfect now.

    Hi!

Glad to hear that my progress give hope to anyone in this community. Me too, I was lurking on this site before I decided to do acne scar revision, I've learned a lot from this site, I owe this community and hopefully I will give something back to this community. I tried to find information about excision but hardly find any good before and after pics, I scared that I would end up worse than before I started.

I have this line scar level with the rest of skin, it barely visible and can't feel any indentation when I pass my hand over the excised area, the redness make it stand out but I'll have resurfacing to help with the redness after my 2nd excision.

I'm sure you have done your research about excision. I hope you'll find a good PS if you decided to go for it.

Thanks a bunch for the info, I'll try to ask my PS about this.

Well I'm happy too with how it looks now, my forehead looks normal, believe me it was really bad before.

Best of luck for you, keep us update and please feel free to ask me if you have any other questions!

  17. Hey thanks for the post guys. Poppy looks like it went really well! Some days are better than others with these things. What type of surgery did you go through, subcision? Did a determotolgist perform it out a plastic surgeon? I only ask, because right now I live in PA and i'm trying to do research on finding a good doctor. If I'm going to shell out the money I want to find a doctor who's respected and knows what he or she is doing. Unfortunately, I"m not finding much info.

I had scalpel excision with plastic surgeon, he cuts out the scars and stitches the skin shut, the sutures will be placed below the skin to keep the wound shut. Cause I have bunch of scars on booth cheeks, my surgeon didn't excised all my scars to prevent too much tension on my skin. I'll have 2nd excision for the rest of scars and then dermabrasion to smooth it out..I document my excision progress on my post..

Not many PS or dermatologist that offer excision for acne scar, they prefer to offer laser cause they'll make more money. I went consult with several dermatologists and plastic surgeons until i found my PS that suggest excision for my acne scars.

Laser good for resurfacing but you have to deal with the pitted scars first. Unlike laser, with excision it only need to be done one time, if it turn out well the result permanent. Keep in mind that everyone skin and healing ability is different. I think you have to consult with PS and ask whether you'll be a suitable candidate for excision. But please skip laser. Good luck!

  18. This afternoon I took pics both cheeks in different lighting. My right cheek pic took in a bad lighting, duh, the rest of scars that didn't get excise look worse!! I can't wait to get those scars excise, this is weird but I feel that surgery scar much better than pitted scar. I used to get depressed everytime I look at my scars but now I don't feel so depressed cause excision will take care of it. I'm so impatience now, can't wait for 2nd excision and dermabrasion then hopefully all those scars and redness gone for good!!

  19. Thank you poppyw! I hope you are going to heal faster and sooner. :) please keep us updated. We are happy for you. :)

Thank you for the reply poppyw. I was just a silent reader before at acne.org but now im breaking my silence because I want now to heal. Would it be the same in our nose? I heard nose heals differently and does not do well with massaging. I really want this to heal. It irritates me and blocks me from doing social stuffs with people. Do you know someone who had success treatig their nose scar? Im glad you are healing poppyw. :)

I read from other post here, they said that Mr. Matt had success with TCA cross for nose scar. Just a thought maybe you can try to PM him and ask him directly.
    U're so welcome lenar :)

    Thanks..I'll keep you guys update!

Best of luck for you!! I hope you'll find the right treatment for you..

  20. It looks great! Congratulations :D

Thanks a bunch!! My cheeks before were a mess and has that weird wavy texture but now it has improved. I'm still looking for improvement for the rest of my scars, hopefully after 2nd excision and dermabrasion I'll be happy and live with it.
  21. attachicon.gifphoto 1.JPGattachicon.gifphoto 1.JPGHello all,

I'm recently 30 and have learned to deal with my scaring and just accept it for what it is. I do go through periods where it really bothers me as it's pretty bad. My right side of the face is clear, but my left as you can see in the pictures is absolutely horrid. I finally want to do something about this or at least try to, but I'm not sure where to start. I've read most treatments are not very effective for sever scaring such as mine. I've also read that some treatments are more effective than others in treating different types of scars. I'm not sure what type mine are. If anyone has some sound advice or someone who has similar scaring who has undergone successful treatment could help me out with what might be most effective I would be greatly thankful. Or is it just something I'll have to live with as there are no treatments that can fix this?

    attachicon.gifphoto 1.JPG

Acne scars, by far, one of my feature that rule my self esteem the most. Acceptance is a weird concept when you hope no one looks you in the face. Nowadays, there are a lot of options available for treatment acne scar. Make sure you put a realistic expectation about your result, acne scars can be improve to the level where you can live with it.

Surgical treatment for acne scars is not an option you will read a lot about, but it is often the very best treatment for improving your complexion. Surgery works wonder for me and I have more severe scarring than you, but everyone heal differently, what works for me maybe won't work for you and not everyone will be a suitable candidate for surgery.

Any scar treatments carry a risk, whether you are fortunate that everything look better after, get no improvement or ended up worse than before you started. If your scars don't bother you anymore and you can live with it, maybe you don't want to carry the risk make it worse. I went with surgery route cause I believe that I can still improve my scars to the level I'll be happy and live with it. I'm glad I did, the best decision I ever made.

  22. Thats exciting, Poppy! I found a plastic surgeon nearby that will do excisions. So hard to find, bcs everybody is pushing lasers these days. And I'm not so impressed with lasers. Keep us posted! I am going to book a consult next week….your post inspired me to start looking at this method!

    Hey ChrissyC..

Did u went for consult with PS? How was everything?
