  1. Hi there I just saw this thread and wanted to give you my experience with these creams. I was put on clindamycin phosphate and tretinoin .05% about 7 months ago by my dermatologist as well. I was having a pretty bad breakout that literally popped up out of nowhere. He told me to use a gentle cleanser (I use cetaphil) in the morning and then put on the clindamycin and then use the tretinoin every night. As mentioned above, tretinoin works by pushing all of the acne out to the surface of the sk
  2. Don't Give Up

I've been using Tretinoin for almost 15 weeks now and let me tell you it hasn't been all rainbows and sunshine. I am a 21 year old female that was getting painful cystic acne around my chin, mouth, and cheeks that seemed to spring up out of nowhere. I went to my dermatologist who prescribed me a combination of clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide for mornings and Tretinoin .05% for nights. I went through a bad initial breakout around my 3rd week in that lasted about my 6th week. I was VERY depressed and
  3. I still have the black heads on my nose as well but I never really cared that much about them like I did with the big pimples. My derm told me to use the BP/ clindamycin in the morning because it is a good antibiotic. He said hes not a big fan of spot treating because its more effective to use the product all over the face to help stop new pimples from forming. So i wash with cetaphil and then apply the bp/clindamycin and then a moisturizer in the morning (plus sunscreen) and then at night I jus
  4. Hi there My face randomly decided that it wanted to break out in deep painful cysts all over my chin a few months ago for no reason so I was also prescribed tretinoin (.05%) and clindamycin/BP about 10 weeks ago by my derm. Just like you, from the 2nd to about 5th week my skin purged soooo badly I was scared to even leave the house. Slowly, by week 6 they started to go away. I'm going into my 11th week...I have not had a big cyst-like pimple since about week 6ish (knock on wood!) I do have se
  5. I'm glad you've found that it works for you! I hope that this works well enough that I can stay on it for years without becoming immune to it...if that's even possible. My derm basically told me "it may get worse before it gets better" but he never said when I should expect it or for how long or anything. I did a lot of research by myself online...especially when I had my IB I would read people's testimonies that said to stick with it stick with it stick with it. Because I almost quit it complet
  6. Hoping with every ounce of my being that I'll never see those cystic bumps again! I use neutrogena's healthy skin foundation when I have to but I honestly try to not use it...it all depends on my self-esteem for that day lol Before I had problems I would get like 1 pimple once in a blue moon and it never really bothered me. But now everytime I get one I'm like OH MY GOD THEY'RE ALL GOING TO COME BACK and I just freak out. How long have you been using tretinoin? What strength do you use and are
  7. My God...makeup and tretinoin definitely do not mix! The flakes made it impossible to look good...sometimes I felt worse with it on. I did wake up with a bump on the side of my chin today where I am acne prone...but it seems smaller than the ones I'm used to having. I'm hoping it will go away within the week and won't turn into a pustule! I can feel a few under the surface bumps that I hope will go down and will not become inflamed. It's weird, but I find myself really obsessed with skin now t
  8. I also just wanted to update this in case anyone is reading! So I'm now on week 6 of the tretinoin and clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide and I have definitely seen improvement from week 3 Right now, I do not have any pustules or cystic acne like I had during my purging phase (knock on wood I hope I didn't jinx myself!) I also went off of my birth control about 2 weeks ago because it was making me severely depressed and dizzy and it just was not for me. Kudos to anyone that can stick with Ortho-tri c
  9. Thanks for responding! My derm put me on the combo BP and clindamycin...the first few weeks it burned like crazy everytime I tried to put a moisturizer on over top of it! It was just a neutrogena sensitive skin water based moisturizer so I have no idea why it burned? Its not as bad now I usually wash my face and wait 15 mins before putting on the bp and then wait again and put on the moisturizer and that helps. He said it was good to have a topical antibiotic along with tretinoin. It does seem
  10. Hi everyone So i was prescribed .05 tretinoin at night, clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide in the morning, and ortho tri-cyclen for what my derm believes is hormonal acne. I'm 3 weeks into the tretinoin and clindamycin/benzoyl and a week and half into the ortho tri cyclen. My acne started randomly a few months ago mostly on my chin, lower jawline, and lower cheeks. Never had a problem in high school...I'm 21 now. Its caused me a lot of emotional and self-esteem problems. So yesterday mark
  11. Hi everyone, I'm one of those people who never really had a pimple the whole time I was a teenager. However, I am now 21 and my face is exploding with cystic painful acne around my chin/mouth and one or two spots on my cheeks. I go to the derm in 2 days and I was wondering if anyone had any luck with antibiotics plus birth control for their acne? Are you clear and how long did it take to see results? Thanks
  12. I am a 20 year old female and I have never really had a problem with acne until a few months ago. Most of the acne is around my chin and my lower cheeks and some of them are quite painful (The one white spot was a pimple that opened so i spot treated it with benzoyl peroxide) Some of them feel so deep under my skin that I don't even think any topical treatment is working. I have been using neutrogena deep clean facial wash and witch hazel for about a month. At first I thought it was getting bett
