  1. Sorry Jessica J just saw your reply. If I were you I would go to a different doc who is more progressive and up on the latest research regarding accutane. I am lucky to live in a major city with many dermatologist options. I wish you luck in your search! To Robswife... my skin does not react well to BP. I tend towards dryness, so i have no desire to use so much BP on my face. I only get an occasional cyst, but at my age and in my career, one cyst is one too many. I am doing great on the accuta
  2. Hi Lioness,

I'm a 46 year old who has been taking 10-20mg of Accutane weekly for 6 years now.  I have no side effects except when I up my dosage during times of stress (I'll take it 3 days in a row and have drier hair and skin.)  I would be a scarred mess by now from cysts if I did not use this medication.  I plan on using it until menopause or after if I need it.  I would only advocate this long term usage post-ALL pregnancies.  I'm assuming you are done with that chapter as well?  The blood work is annoying to get a new Rx, but so worth it not to have scars, painful cysts, and embarrassing pimples in our 40s and 50s.  Feel free to write if you have questions.  There aren't very many of us on this regimen it seems.

  3. I am a 50 year old woman who has suffered from mild to moderate acne since about 14. I have had some reprieve over the years, but the acne always seems to come back. I tend to get large painful chin cysts that always pop up when I have plans, a party or important business meetings. The dermatologist had suggested accutane to me before, but I scoffed at the thought. I continued to control my cysts with spirolactone, cortisone shots and vitamin D. I eat a very clean, healthy diet and I attend Pila
  4. How high of a spirolactone dose did you go? You might not have taken it long enough to see results. I have been on spiro for too many years to count and am up to 2, 100mg pills a day. No side effects normal potassium. It has been a lifesaver. I still break out now and then, but nothing like I used to. I also use retin a daily and oil free clinique moisturizer. I have been where you are at. Multiple Accutane cycles with breakouts right after. Only time I would clear up was when I was pregnant. Tr
  5. She does follow a very strict regime. She is fastidious with her skin care, that is why it was weird she broke out so suddently. This told me it was more than just "acne". I wash my face after I shampoo and still had that horrible reaction to Pantene Pro-V. I am so careful about what shampoo and hair products I use.Took months to undo the damage the shampoo caused.
  6. So sorry, just saw all the amazing responses! I have not been on this site for a long time! So nice to know there are wonderful supportive people around! I decided to not allow the PA to bother me anymore and mainly go to another office where I am friends with all the female derms (because they all attend my gym). I am treated like a friend and they are very sympathetic if I am having a breakout. Wishing everyone a happy healthy new year.
  7. This post is related to an experience my 21 year old daughter recently had. She started using Ouidad products at the advice of her hairdresser. She has always had relatively clear skin, with an occasional breakout here and there. The last few months I noticed she was starting to break out pretty badly, but only in places her hair touched (forehead and side of cheeks). I mentioned to her on many occasions that it might be her hair care products and shampoo. I had a horrible experience in the past

  9. A little background. I am in my mid forties and have dealt with acne since my teens. My acne has been pretty much under control, but I still get cysts and large blemishes every now and then. Spirolactone has been a miracle for me to keep my skin under control. I decided to try to decrease the dose and had a breakout. My skin tends to break out and not stop for weeks on end. I know my skin and this cycle well. I rely on cortisone injections for bad breakouts because the large blemishes takes week
