  1. I recommend not using the vinegar for a day to two prior to and after the Smoothbeam. I give the same advice for glycolic peels. Pet and pamper your skin before and after treatment and always use sunscreen. The best advice I can offer with the Smoothbeam is to try to have patience. Collagen formation is a VERY SLOW process. If you think you look better immediately after a treatment it is due to swelling. But, it will get better. Please hang in. I posted a section on vitamins and nutrients rel
  2. The strength of peels are also effected by "free acid value". I use a 50% on my face but it depends on which product and the free acid value as to whether the treatment time is 1-5 minutes or 1-10 minutes. I only use 70% on hands. If an area turns white or frost, you have really burned yourself. Neutralize when any section turns red. When you buy your glycolic, are you also receiving a neutralizer?
  3. For those of you who are doing your own glycolic peels: What are you using to neutralize the glycolic acid with? Not just water I hope. Be very careful not to leave them on more than a couple of minutes and when you start to see any redness it is time to neutralize. You can always do another peel but it takes a lot longer to heal those scabs and you may have a worse problem.
  4. Smoothbeam is a treatment for acne and scars. The treatment is exactly the same so you can treat both at the same time.
  5. My source discusses that although the exact cause of acne is not known, certain factors contribute. In the food section it speaks to overconsumption of junk food, saturated fats, hydrogenated fats and animal products. And anything other foods that you may specifically have an allergy to.
  6. Please see my post in this section with the subject Acne Treatment Kit. It has everyting you need but alas you can not get it at Walgreens etc. but there may be a local provider. Call the 800 number or visit the website. www.genesispharm.com. Most of the items you can buy OTC are not strong enough to help much.

  9. As a nurse practitioner I am concerned when I hear that someone is taking 10-20 tablets of 1 medication. Please check your dosage. My recommendation for the Vitamin B complex is 100mg 3xdaily. I divide up my vitamins simply because taking several of some types at one times makes my stomach hurt. The other reason some medications are prescribed in divided doses is because they are water soluble and leave the system with urine. Some meds are also metabolized by different organs, i.e. liver and t
  10. I own a business that provides Smoothbeam laser for acne but I also recommend products to my clients. I can see from many of the post here that it is sometimes difficult to find all the products you need. My clients have had good results with this kit and you can call the 800 number for the company or visit their website to find the provider nearest you. These are not prescription in that you don't get them at a pharmacy but they are recommended and only provided by a physcian/provider. You can
  11. I provide Smoothbeam treatments for acne but I also give a handout to my clients. Part of the handout includes information on Vitamins/Nutrients that help acne. The reference is from "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" by James Balch MD and Phyllis Balch, CNC. Please refer to the book for a comprehensive list and details but here is what I give to clients. Very Important: Chromium Picolinate 400-600mg daily. Aids in reducing infections to the skin. Essential Fatty Acids (Omega 3-6-9) .T
  12. Joules is the energy setting. 10-11-12..... Cryogen is the cooling spray but it can be too cool on skin with lots of melanin or recently stimulated melanin. In effect it freezes the melanin whichs cause the hyperpigmentation. If this occurs, the spot looks like a burn but does not feel like a burn. Candela has discovered some of these issues through other lasers like the Gentlelase, which targets melanin for hair removal.
  13. 1. Smoothbeam can be preformed on all skin colors. General recommendation for settings: Skin type 4: Mediterranean, Asian, Latin 11-12 joules Cryogen at 30 Skin type 5: Middle Eastern, Latin, Asian lignt skinned Black, Indian, Native Amercian Skin type 6: Dark skinned Black 10-11 joules Cryogen at 25. These Skin types are call Fitzpatrick. Test spots are recommended for types 4 and above. 2. Hi Tina, see you in October. 3. Breakouts: Between the first and second treatment you can
  14. There is another component to hyperpigmentation beside the joule setting. That is the cryogen setting. The cryogen setting is more responsible for hyperpigmentation because it freezes the melanin. Cryogen is the cooling spray. People tend to turn it up in the thought that it decreases the discomfort (which is true) but it is most responsible for the hyperpigmentation. Darker skin should probably only have cryogen at 25.
  15. 1. Excess oil: Immediately after a Smoothbeam treatment you produce more oil for a day or so then it decreases and you start to dry. I don't know of anyone using it specifically to reduce oil, but as you say I think it would do exactly that. 2. N-lite: I can't give any opinion as I have never used that product. I have been following the Smoothbeam research progress for about 3 years. 3. Red-purple marks; Are these the after effects of acne? If they are I might suggest some glycolic peels follo
