  1. Yeah, you're probably right. I do incorporate fish into my diet and will do so more regularly now.
  2. I echo everyone's comments about knowing how difficult it is. I, too, have been experimenting with diet approaches for the past 14 months or so. I just want to let you know I'm in a similar position... my diet now consists nearly exclusively of vegetables, nuts, and seeds. I drink water, teas for antioxidants and cleansing, homemade or organice vegetable juices. I was doing a fast over the holidays, but even if I weren't the only thing I would've been able to eat would've been the salads...
  3. I've been avoiding bread, pasta, etc. for the past 9 months because the high glycemic index aggravates my acne. I've also found this to be true for rice, potatoes, and even fruit. Sticking to a mostly vegetable, nut and seed diet for the past week has helped my acne calm down a lot.
  4. Well, I've now been on regular food for a week now. I can't say that I've seen an improvement in my acne since the cleanse, although it's hard to tell. During the cleanse my acne calmed down. When I went off the cleanse I got my period and my acne also flared up. Now I'm eating mostly vegetables, seeds and nuts, except for grapefruit and occasional rice. I've also seriously increased my fat intake with flax, borage, and evening primrose oils as well as from eating avocado. My spots have cal
  5. Thanks for the input, I really appreciate it! I've been following anti-candida guidelines for the past several days and have noticed fewer spots. Basically I'm sticking to vegetables, nuts, seeds, except for a grapefruit at breakfast and rice while I was out to eat a couple times. I'm taking Jarrodophilus twice a day which has been wonderful in making my BMs regular. I have some coconut oil and garlic at home so I'll try to incorporate that into my diet. And I might start on some oregano oi
  6. Day +1 (start of regular food) Intake: -1 cup fresh squeezed grapefruit juice -1 grapefruit -Yogi Get Regular tea -salad (cereal bowl-sized: kale, red pepper, tomato, zucchini, sprouts, red onion, 1 TB Health From the Sun brand The Total EFA vegetarian liquid, juice of ½ lemon) -salad (dinner plate-sized: kale, green pepper, tomato, yellow squash, sprouts, red onion, avocado, 1 TB Total EFA, juice of ½ lemon) Physical: -116 lbs -2 BMs- clearly some of last night’s grapefruit came out. -Aft
  7. Looks great, keep it up! Congrats on your hard work
  8. i honestly don't know, i haven't looked into it very much. but i've heard things about a "spit test" and bloodwork.
  9. I'm trying out an anti-candida diet because I notice that high-sugar foods aggravate my acne. The resources I've found online say that nutritional yeast (or any other kind of yeast) aren't good and neither is apple cider vinegar. That kind of stinks because of how they're supposed to be good for acne treatment. And then mushrooms aren't good either, which stinks because I really like them Anyway, my basic question is: how strictly do you have to stick to the dietary recommendations to see
  10. I would suggest doing a search on this forum to see what people have said in the past. Also, I've found it helpful to look through books at natural food stores to see their recommendations. As far as cleaning out toxins, commonly recommended herbs are burdock, red clover, and dandelion. Health food stores carry tea blends, often with "Detox" in the name. Here are some commonly recommended supplements: Vitamin A Vitamin B complexes Vitamin B6 Vitamin B5 Vitamin C Vitamin E Selenium Chromium Z
  11. Thanks, I really appreciate your input. I did think about the effect of the lemon, so I hope it actually worked. I've had good luck with drinking lemon water for reducing inflammation (or at least seeming to, could be all in my head!) The first several days I posted pictures in the Diet/Holistic Health gallery and there's a link to that in my first post. My camera has been dead for the past couple days, but hopefully I'll get new pics up soon. My acne definitely calmed down over the course
  12. Day 10: Intake: -4 drinks -organic dandelion root tea -organic red clover tea -2 cups fresh squeezed grapefruit juice -2 grapefruits -Yogi Get Regular Tea Physical: -1 BM -I decided to start on grapefruit juice tonight because I want to make sure I’m okay eating solid food for lunch in 2 days when I meet up with family for lunch. -I am SO cold. I think I mentioned before that I tend to be cold anyway, but this is like a perma-cold. I’m constantly under a blanket and drinking tea to kee
  13. I really like making my own trail mix, since I know exactly what's in it and it's very filling. I usually mix equal parts of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and raisins, but you can do ANYTHING. Peanuts, cashews, almonds, dried cranberries, carob chips, dried pineapple. I don't know if you're trying to avoid ALL sugar, or just added sugar, because the dried fruit will obviously have some natural sugar. Another delicious snack is sesame sticks ( http://www.nutsonline.com/snacksmixes/sesa...ic
  14. Day 9: Intake: -12 drinks -Yogi Get Regular Tea Physical: -3 BMs -Felt hungry today, even after all my drinks. For a couple of them I measured the maple syrup wrong, so I put in less than normal. So that could definitely be part of it, but I also wonder if my hunger also was just built up. -Really achy lower legs. -I’ve had REALLY good results with the salt water flush and definitely would have done it more, but often had morning plans that kept me from being able to be near a toilet. Eit
  15. Day 8: Intake: -12 drinks -Yogi Get Regular Tea Physical: -1 BM Emotional: -Got irritable at one point when I was getting hungry.
  16. Do you find background music, candles, etc to be helpful? Or do you go for complete silence?
  17. What do you mean by you "lost it" by Day 3, that you were just too hungry? I was incredibly surprised by how NOT hungry I've been over these past several days. Were you drinking enough of the lemonade to keep yourself satisfied? I've been drinking 12 drinks daily, each with 1 tablespoon of maple syrup (instead of the recipe for 2 tablespoons because I notice that sugar triggers my acne). Diet changes are definitely difficult!!! A year and a half ago I was having at least 4 cups of coffee, a
  18. No, I don't drink milk. I've been following a vegan diet except for occasional fish for the past 8 months. I also haven't eaten bread, pasta, and cereal in that time. Yes, that's another name for red tea, but I prefer to refer to it as red because it's only one syllable, lol. I've never tried red tea by itself, so I'm not sure how it tastes, but with green tea it's not bad either! It does contain antioxidants, but white tea is the best source for that. I bought white tea today, but it's in
  19. I'm assuming that rapid drop in weight was because I simply didn't have any solid food in my system. And I'm going to start drinking red tea, too... Isn't it also known as rooibos? I love the taste and I've heard it's a wonderful source of antioxidants. I'm going to drink that in addition to my daily decaff green tea.
  20. Hmm thats not what my dermatologist said. you really only need two tests, one before starting and one one month after starting. but it would still probably be difficult to get your prescription filled in a different country.
  21. Came across this website and thought it sums up some nutrition basics pretty well: http://www.cascadenaturalclinic.com/article_Skin_food.asp
  22. I really appreciate this post because I'm in the same boat. I've never SERIOUSLY considered Accutane, 1st because I was going to be out of the country and unable to test my liver and 2nd because of my history of depression. When I came back from out of the country one of my friends had just come off Accutane, he also has a history of depression. While on Accutane he had a breakdown, literally violent towards one of our other friends. He went off it right after and has had no more problems an
  23. That's true, you're absolutely right. My above post was more a stream of consciousness rather than a thought-out critique of US culture, an inside peek into the inner workings of my brain in the wee hours of the morning
  24. Day 7: Intake -10 drinks -Yogi Get Regular tea Physical: -1 BM upon waking, 3 or 4 small BMs throughout the day after salt water flush -leisurely walking while shopping Emotional: -had some fun time today with friends and family -excited about starting a (at least mostly) raw food diet when I go back to solid food. It’s definitely a bit of an obsession right now, I’m looking up recipes online to help me when I go grocery shopping next week, and the pictures of food are SOOO tempting! Iâ
  25. Day 6 Intake: -10 drinks -organic red clover leaf tea -1/2 cup freshly squeezed organic orange juice -Yogi Get Regular tea Physical: -115 lbs -10 hours sleep -leisurely walk while window shopping -my lower back started aching in the early evening Emotional: -I was somewhat frustrated by my appointment with my psychiatrist. I don’t particularly like him anyway but I tried to keep an open mind going into this session, since I only have to see him a couple times a year for medication managem
