  1. Hi there. I just replied to your private message. If anyone else would like to know about his progress and side effects, just let me know and I can either post it here or you can PM me. Overall, things are going well. He is starting week 9 this week!
  2. You said you never had any acne until starting the Retin-A? Have you been using it all over your face ever since? I am just wondering if you are allergic to it since antibiotics and other treatments did not help. Retin-A should help for as long as you've been using it so that's why I asked about a possible allergy. Accutane will definitely make you break out worse for anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months but then things will improve. Dry skin and lips are common and most pe
  3. Seems strange to me that you dried out and then started to get oily again. Are you experiencing more breaking out with the oiliness or just more oil? Did you contact your doctor about it?
  4. So sorry that you are going through this. How old are you? My 14-year-old (soon to be 15) son just started Accutane and is starting his 4th week today. I just updated his progress and side effects on my thread so take a look. A lot of people experience a worsening of acne when first starting and this is happening to my son. His attitude is good though because he finally feels like we are doing something to help him in the long run. You have to go in with a good attitude and know that this
  5. Hi everyone. I should probably make a separate blog but just wanted to update you on how my son is doing. He has completed 3 weeks of treatment (40 mg per day) and is starting his 4th week today. He started the initial breakout and dry skin/lips toward the end of the first week. The breakout has gotten worse, mostly whiteheads but the whole area is red and inflamed. His problem areas were always his forehead and chin but the breakout seems to be concentrated on the sides of his face and che
  6. Thanks! Things are going ok. He just started week 3 and the initial break-out is happening. It is pretty bad and I feel so sorry for him, especially since today was the first day of school. He has a good attitude though and is keeping his thoughts on the bigger picture. Skin and scalp are drying out and lips of course. The doctor is going to keep him on 40 mg for the first two months. I hope this breakout starts to calm down soon. Breakout should only last up to 3 weeks. Is it just wh

  8. Hey, I had this to begin with, it usually subsides and you'll find some other bizzare side effects can occur but are usually temporary. I have also been prescribed by my derm some special shampoo which I only apply once weekly and it seems to keep any itchyness completely at bay. Its called 'Nizoral 2% shampoo', usually used for treatment of bad dandruff or eczema etc. Please feel free to browse my profile for my story and/or send me a message if I can help you with any queries etc. All the
  9. Thank-you so much. The poor kid has had enough and I knew it was time to start. He just completed week one! Skin and lips are drying out but we are trying to keep on top of it. Really wish we would have started this at the beginning of Summer!

  11. Fantastic information...thank-you SO much! I am hoping the doctor will keep him on a lower dose for a longer time. All the research I've done says this is effective and results in fewer side effects. He has completed week one and is starting to dry out for sure. His lips are a bit swollen and red but he's doing a good job keeping them moisturized. Getting a few more whiteheads the last couple of days as well. He had one night of extreme scalp itching but that went away for now. I am havin
  12. Thank-you for your insight. It's nice to hear from someone his age who is going through the same thing. I agree that it was time. I didn't want his face to scar any more and he was starting to get depressed about his acne. I am reminding him to let us know if anything feels out of the ordinary. Curious to know how you are doing in your third month. Has your acne gotten better? When did you first see some results? I wish you well during the rest of your treatment Thank-you for taking
  13. Hi all. Well, my son is on day 6 of Accutane, 40 mg and he has started to get an extremely itchy scalp as well as the dry lips. Just wondering if anyone experienced the scalp itching and what we can do. I read that this is not dandruff, it's dry scalp so you really shouldn't use a medicated dandruff shampoo, as this would dry his scalp out more. It is after midnight and he can't sleep because his scalp is itching so badly. I gave him an antihistamine hoping it would help the itch and allow
  14. Thank-you again. Good to know they will fade eventually. He is 6 days in and starting to get the dry lips and today he said his nose was feeling dry for the first time. I bought him some saline nasal spray to keep his nose moist so hopefully that helps. His scalp is also feeling itchy. He has a good attitude so far and knows he is in for some discomfort. I hope I can help him through it.
  15. Hi everyone. We have decided to go through with the treatment and he took his first dose on Sunday. I started another thread discussing that and I may start a blog to document his progress.
