  1. For me, a BCP is only one part of my regime. I also am on doxycycline and Retin-A. If I change any part of this trio, my skin breaks out again. After having terrible skin for nearly 30 years, this is what has finally worked for me.
  2. There is an initial purge with Retin-A where you will break out pretty badly for a while. Mine lasted a good 8 weeks or so. It was horrible and this is when many people stop using it. Don't stop! After this initial breakout, your skin will calm down and clear up. Hang in there!
  3. I use it once a week a day or two after I use Retin-A (I only use it twice a week in the winter because it really dries out my skin). I am very gentle with it though. It helps slough off the skin cells. The other 6 day a week I use Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Cleanser.
  4. I broke out from weeks 2-10 or so. The worst was the first 4-5 weeks. I am now in week 15 and my skin had been completely breakout free for the last 3-4 weeks or so. This stuff is amazing! It is even fading my old scars little by little.
  5. I started taking Doxy last Christmas and by May, I noticed that I needed to urinate frequently and it burned when I did. I stopped taking the Doxy. I started it again in September and I haven't noticed any side effects so far this time around.
  6. I started using Tretinoin at the beginning of September and have had many weeks of breakouts although they seem to be slowing down (I hope!). I find it hard to dab a pea sized amount of the cream on my forhead, chin and cheeks and spread it all over my face. Can I mix it with moisturizer so that it will spread more easily all over my face? If so, which moisturizer works well? When did your skin stop breaking out? I use it every other night and sometimes I back off and use it every third nig
  7. I started using it at the end of March and it took the entire month of April and the beginning of May for my breakouts to slow down. Now they have almost entirely stopped. My dermatologist told me to give it a good 3 months. I was told to use it every other night and work up to every night. My skin couldn't tolerate it even every other night so I use it every third night. I'm also taking a BCP (generic Yaz) and doxycycline. I think this combo is what has worked for me. Now that they break
  8. Thanks for your responses. Can I ask why apple cider vinegar? I've never heard of that before.
  9. I have started taking some vitamins to help curb my acne. I've done some research into which ones help with inflammation, etc. I am taking quite a few supplements each day and I was wondering if there was one combination supplement that anyone would recommend. I take liquid fish oil but all of the others are pills. I'm taking evening primrose, Vitamins A and E as well as zinc. I also take a probiotic since I am on a 3 month course of antiobiotics.
  10. I use Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance in the winter. I also started adding a few drops on jojoba oil to the moisturizer. I wish I used both of these products when I took Accutane years ago. My skin was so dry on Accutane.
  11. The same thing happened to me which caused me to discontinue the BP. It was entirely too harsh. Even after using it only twice, my skin felt and looked like I had gotten a bad sunburn. It took my skin a good week to stop the burning feeling after stopping the BP. I also felt like I had acid on my face even days after I stopped using it. My eyes burned too. Way too harsh for me.
  12. Hi. I've taken both OTC and the Lo version. I got pregnant within a month or two of taking the Lo version. My advice is to be careful if you are sexually active because the ultrasound technician told me she had seen quite a few women come in who got pregnant on OTC Lo. OTC worked well to clear up my skin. Needless to say, I never used the Lo version again!
  13. Hi everyone. I am new to acne.org and this is my first post. I'm in my late 30s and have had acne since I was 12 years old. I did the usual antiobiotic treatments as well as topical stuff in my teens and then started on the Pill when they didn't work. I've had success with Ortho Tri-Cyclen (but not OTC Lo which resulted in my son!) Last year, I was taking Loryna which worked great for my skin. People actually asked me what I was using because my skin was so clear. I didn't have Rx coverag
