  1. I have been using TAO in my nose religiously for about 2-3 months now, and initially it did seem to help with my cysts, but I will still occassionally get a few near my nose (like right now I have a huge inflamed cyst there). Are there any other habits you would recommened? I'm going to cut out drinking alcohol because that can't possibly help. I do pick my nose, so that can't help either - should cut back or wash my hands first.
  2. I was on this forum about 1 month ago dealing with ~2-3 new cysts/week + numerous very red papules and pustules. I tried a few of the vitamin "cures" I saw, and about 2 weeks in my skin looks great, no cysts, small pores, and very few blackheads on my once coated nose. Here's what I take: 10,000IUs vitamin D 200mg magnesium (glycine/lysine chelate) 100ug vitamin K2 m-7 (keeps calcium in bones and not blood vessels- SHOULD TAKE ALONGSIDE VITAMIN D) 2g flush free niacin (don't take timed
  3. Downsides are bad scarring and pitting from what I've heard. I would never do it.
  4. Acne was a huge influence on the profession I went into. I'm a molecular biologist working on my PhD. It's a good gig that allows me to hide away from society and work the hours I want to.
  5. Yup. It's very hard to build up the motivation to talk to girls when you live with the constant fear of not knowing how bad you're going to look when you wake up in the morning. Fortunately, I'm mustered up the courage to ask girls out - successfully I might add. I have a girlfriend of 2 years who understands my plight (moderate to several cystic acne). But I am left with debilitating social scars, such as constant anger, because of my acne. It's a bitch, and I wish you the best.
  6. I am actually a scientist earning my PhD in immunotherapy. I'm just curious what everyone thinks since most have tested themselves and have come to their own unique conclusions. I've experimented a lot over the past few years and come to a few conclusions. The primary conclusion is that acne, in many cases, is a symptom of immune dysregulation. That is, acne is the outcome of a hyperactive (probably Th1 or Th17) immune response against commensal bacteria - sort of like an autoimmune disorder

  8. No, it's unrefined virgin. The breakouts seem to have subsided, so hopefully it's done now. I think it may be a purging phase. How long have you been eating it and how much? I gave it about 7 days. Two cysts later, I'm throwing in the towel. I was doing better off without it. Maybe I have an allergy or something. I'm beginning to think Candida wasn't my problem anyway.
  9. How much are you taking? I've read that some people require higher doses. I'm in the same boat as you, though. Feels like I tried evrerything and nothing works. I'm giving high dose vitamin D a shot now since the lower doses didn't have muhc of an effect.
  10. Like hell. Had my acne controlled somewhat with low carb dieting, then I started getting cystic acne again. Cut out all alcohol and smoking recently, and my face was flawless for a good 2 weeks. Now, cystic acne seems to be coming back. I just don't understand this disease.
  11. Great write up, and thanks for the pics. We have very similar looking complexions, sporadic red acne, and symptoms (oily greasy skin), and I think this is an often overlooked aspect to treating acne. Not all acne's are created equally.

  14. Wow, that's a tough one. I would strongly advise accutane, but since you're out in the sun all the time I would actually advise against accutane. The only thing you can really do is either try some cleansers with BP in it or dramatically change your diet so that you consume few carbs.
  15. Just curious what everone's stance is. I know when I eat low carb I get less acne. I'm just not sure what's going on systemically. If acne is an internal, systemic problem, I'm curious why I only get bad acne on my face and nowhere else on my body.
