  2. I don't know if you tend to drink milky tea or coffee, but I have really got into herbal teas as a replacement. Now when I wake up I don't need a caffeine hit, instead I look forward to my breakfast green tea! It really doesn't take long to develop new habits if you break through the initial pain barrier...
  3. I use just a regular multivitamin that includes iron. My main worry is the calcium I am missing through not drinking milk, so I am drinking a soya milk that had added calcium. Also trying to eat more nuts (almonds and brazils) and leafy greens which all contain calcium. As I say, my acne hasn't gone but I don't seem to get those deep painful spots anymore.   4. I almost don't dare write this but things are looking up. After a weird breakout of nodules on my chin last week, it has all cleared up. My left cheek has stayed pretty clear, and my right cheek is a lot better. I am still getting tiny pimples on my rights cheek (I may be cursed with these for the rest of my life) but they don't bother me so much because they are not deep, under-the-skin ones.   6. I have also been looking at BB creams - do you have very oily skin? Just wondering if the Garnier would be suitable for my oil slick of a face. Love the idea of them, but most foundations slide off my face around mid-day so I am a bit dubious about investing in a BB.

I have worked with kids for the past few years, and one time that sticks in my mind was during a particularly horrible cheek breakout when a 6 year-old boy asked 'What's that stuff all over your face?". I didn't know what to say, so then he asked, "Is it spots?". I said yes, and he was like "let's go play outside now". Lol, it was just pure curiosity and he wasn't judging me at all, which is why children are infinitely nicer than adults (despite their brutal honesty!).
  8. Sorry you feel so bad. I know what you mean about feeling embarrassed when you see people you haven't seen for a while. Sometimes all I can think is "They're looking at my face, they're looking at my face...". I know the scars are hard to hide but try to see it as a positive thing - the acne itself is calming down. Maybe you could try a light mineral make-up if it would give you more confidence, you could just dust it on and it wouldtone down some of the red.
  9. Urgh. So, I am getting a bit despondent with my diet. I had hoped it would have had more impact than it has. There is some good news - I haven't had any deep, under-the-skin spots on my cheeks for a week. But I do have constant, small pimples on my cheeks.   10. Yes, I do. I am oily at the best of times, so when I get hot and sweaty my acne gets worse and also my make up won't stay put on my face. So annoying . Sun lotion can be very greasy but I usually use Clinique SPF products that don't cause too many breakouts. I also make sea salt masks (just wet some sea salt - not table salt - until it becomes sludgy and leave it on your acne for 10 mins, then rinse) which can be drying, but on my skin they help to control the oil and also dry up my acne. I have also cut down my sugar consumption over the last few weeks. My left cheek looks great, no new acne for several days and the scars are fading.   13. Hey, I'm also trying to go dairy-free. It's so hard, I love cheese and used to drink milk every day. My acne is different from yours - endless spots on the apples of my cheeks - but I hope that the principle is the same!   14. The joy of working with small children is that they speak their minds. The downside is that sometimes they will comment on your acne. In front of everyone... My cheeks have broken out again.     I have been all cheery and positive about my skin over the last few days because I really thought it was clearing up. My cheek pimples had dried up and I was just left with the red marks. But pride comes before a fall, and over the course of 24 hours I now have 4 new spots on my cheeks and at least one lurking beneath the surface. I can't identify what has brought this on.     Had a bad day yesterday, food-wise. I managed to avoid the cheesecake I'd made for my relatives, but gave way and had some cream with my fruit. Also had two cups of tea with milk and some cheese in my lunch. It was like a dairy festival.     I'm not sure about Differin, I've been using it for nearly a year and it definitely has helped to control the acne which is why I'm still using it. But it hasn't cleared me because I still get these breakouts on my cheeks, so there must be some underlying cause. That's why I'm trying to modify my diet to see if it has any positive impact.

    To be honest I'm starting to think that dairy might be more to blame than refined sugar. Today I was greedy and had tea with milk and a cheese sandwich, and by this evening I had a couple of small new pimples.   20. Have you tried Differin cream? It's only available by prescription I think. I also cannot tolerate BP or Retin-A, they both create extreme dryness and redness, and the horrible wrinkle-effect you mention. Differin is much gentler and does help to control my acne.
  21. So the good news is that I had no new acne when I woke up this morning - yay! In fact, a lot of my right cheek has dried up and the inflammation is down. I did a salt soak last night and this morning, which I think has really helped to heal the existing spots up. Though the salt does make me quite itchy, so maybe I need to take it easy with that.     So Frustrated...

    Ok so for the last week I have gone cold turkey with refined sugars, so no biscuits, cakes, chocolate... I have also drastically cut down on dairy, so no more glasses of milk or cheese and crackers. Basically I can't take these spots anymore, I am 24 and want to finally enjoy clear skin without medication.   24. I find any liquid foundation ends up breaking me out and making the oil worse. I use Clinique 'Almost Make-up', it's a pressed powder which you buff on, a bit like mineral make-up. It gives good coverage, helps to mop up oil and has never irritated my skin (all Clinique products are hypo-allergenic and I've never had a problem with them, despite being allergic to everything...). The only downside is that it's quite expensive (about £22 for a smallish compact).
