  1. I've been breaking out somewhat and have been a bit of a drama queen about it. I have psychological issues with my skin, which I think border on some form of OCD/BDD. But I was crying to my friends about it yesterday, and they were all so kind about it. They all told me they hadn't even noticed I was breaking out and that it really wasn't bad at all. Maybe they were lying, who knows, but it comforted me to think that people really notice less than we think. I also hung out with a bunch of people
  2. Hey, I feel the same way. I was clear for a year on Spiro but have recently been breaking out. Having completely clear skin was so freeing to me. I could go out without makeup, not feel like everyone was looking at my skin, and just truly be myself. I kind of took it for granted--I thought maybe, just maybe, my skin problems were gone forever. But they've come back, and I have two active spots right now which are really getting me down. I know it sucks. But what helps me is knowing that peop
  3. Seems like a Miracle Pill for Acne

I've been taking Spiro for about a year and a half now. Before I started, I had mild-moderate acne. But it was embarrassing, because I would get big pustules or cysts sometimes and NOTHING was working. I finally went to a derm who I knew prescribed Spiro and she gave it to me right away. I started off on 50 mg, then increased to 100. It took maybe 2 months to kick in and then I was completely clear. I didn't get a single zit for a YEAR. That's amazing if you're an acne sufferer like me. I recent
  4. I have had acne for about 7 years now and nothing seems to work. I have tried topicals (Epiduo, Retin-A, Ziana, Benzaclin), antibiotics (Mino, Doxy), washes, and I am currently on Spiro which kept me clear but my acne seems to be coming back. Even though my acne is classified as mild-moderate, it is VERY distressing to me. My depression seems to be linked solely to acne/my skin. I'm so tired of feeling self conscious, feeling like I HAVE to put on makeup, and feeling this frustration when nothin
  5. I literally haven't posted on here in a year, but to hell with it. I've been upset and I need to vent. I am clear now of acne but I have a skin picking problem. I basically create my own trouble. I haven't picked in 2 years, until now. I was bored, and didn't think it would do any major damage. So I went to the mirror and got to picking. I ended up squeezing the shit out of a virtually non-existent blackhead, which eventually turned into a big spot and scabbed over. The scab fell off a few
  6. I haven't felt this good about my skin in a long time. I have been on 100 mg of Spiro since August 2013 and my skin is finally consistently clear. I haven't gotten a real zit in about 2 months, I believe. I do still get blocked pores/blackheads on occasion, but those are easy enough to deal with it. My skin is also much less oily and I don't need to blot anymore! Having dealt with acne for 5 years, it feels so strange to have it not really be a part of my life anymore. I no longer take an ho
  7. I haven't been on Acne.org in a very long time, but I just wanted to create this topic about Spironolactone and what it's done for me. I'm a young female in the NY state area, and I have had moderate acne for about five years. My acne ranged a LOT in its severity. I got cystic zits on occasion, and I seemed to break out around my period each month. No matter what, my face was never consistently clear. I always had at least a few bad red marks or zits, usually quite inflamed because I would mess
  8. I am not on a BC right now. I'm looking into starting BC because I am still having irregularities with my period. We'll see how that goes, because other than the period thing, I really really like Spiro. My oil lever has definitely decreased and my skin looks pretty and clear 99% of the time; that 1% goes to the occasional small pimple that pops up. If I get any zits, they are quite small and gone within a day or two. I feel comfortable without makeup on, which is a big step because I used to ha
  9. Haven't felt this good about my skin in years. I haven't been wearing foundation for the past week, only a little concealer here and there. And my skin has just looked great! The oil level has definitely decreased and I can tell the Spiro is working. Unfortunately, I still get blackheads, which turn into zits after a couple of weeks. Case in point, one blackhead on my check turned into a zit yesterday and today I was able to pop it. Kinda bummed cause my skin was looking so clear, but oh well, i
  10. I'm not actually nauseous, it's more like actual abdominal pain. But I split my Spiro into two doses and ate it with food, and also took fiber capules this morning which seems to have helped. The abdominal pain is noticeable esp when I'm hungry. I'd rather not lower my dosage since 100 mg is working so well for my skin. 50 mg didn't really do much for me. I guess I will see what happens. I have a prescription for BCP and may try a progesterone cream.
  11. I am taking 100 mg of Spiro now...recently I've begun cutting my pills in half so I take 50 mg in the morning and 50 mg in the afternoon because I was having abdominal pain. I also am having irregular periods...every 2 weeks. I've been taking Spiro for about 2 months now. I guess I am feeling a bit weirded out by these side effects, because I am normally really tolerant of most medications. I never had any side effects with antibiotics like Mino or Doxy. I was tolerating the Spiro great at f
  12. Well, after spotting for about 4 days, the spotting stopped for 2 days. I was thinking maybe the spotting occurred because I missed a dosage one day. Now, however, I've got my full on period for the 2nd time this month (had my normal period 2 weeks ago). Uuugh. At this point, I don't know if I should wait it out and possibly continue getting 2 periods a month or if I should just try BC. I called the doctor that prescribed me the Spiro and I spoke to her medical assistant. She suggested I go to
  13. So I guess there's always trouble in paradise Last week, I noticed some light spotting when I should've been ovulating (this was about a week after my normal period). The spotting stopped after a few days, and now, I've gotten a 2nd period this month. It's kind of heavy too, which isn't normal for me (sorry for TMI). I know Spiro causes irregular periods in some women, so I'm not necessarily shocked, but I'm definitely not happy about having 2 periods. I was doing so well with the whole no

  15. No I didn't have any breakouts when I went from 50 - 100. My breakouts have cleared since going on 100 so hopefully they don't come back. My only problem is the spotting...it's not like a second period I think, just spotting. But it's still annoying..
