The Good List: Non-Comedogenic Ingredients And Products

Also according to the master comedogenic list, this could be a good and cheap cleanser: Simple Kind To Skin Pore Minimising Toning Cleanser Aqua, Butylene Glycol, PEG-20 Glyceryl Laurate, Carbomer, Panthenol,Sodium PCA, Sodium Methylparaben, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate,Tetrahydroxypropyl Ethylenediamine, Tocopheryl Acetate,Benzophenone-4, Hamamelis Virginiana Distillate (witch hazel), Dipropylene Glycol,Pantolactone, Methylparaben, Anthemis Nobilis Oil (Roman chamomile), Pelargonium Graveo

The Good List: Non-Comedogenic Ingredients And Products

Unfortunately, Greengables has retired. I also noticed that the first product contains Cetearyl Alcohol which is mildly comedogenic in the master list (=2) and Dan gives it a 4 in his list (http://www.acne.org/acne-products-guide.html). The list is pretty comprehensive anyhow so I think just go with your own instincts and avoid if necessary. I want to try and avoid the cetearyl alcohol so I'm not going to use the first product. Update on ingredients: Simple Refreshing Facial Wash Gel Aq

Silicones And Acne - Sharing Some Info

So I'm not sure about Paula's claims that she makes about the chemical properties of silicone, which she references as coming from The Chemistry and Manufacture of Cosmetics, as I can't get access to an online version of this book to check the source. However, when she references the article from Dermatology Research and Practice, October 2010, and claims "silicone fillers are sometimes used for improving the appearance of acne scars. That certainly wouldn't be the case if silicone was a pore-cl

Wow Gems such an improvement! Congratulations! You must be very pleased with the progress. If I may I'd like to make a couple of comments about antibios (you probably know this already but I think it deserves reiteration for others that may be less aware): for women they can play havoc with your vaginal flora. I'm sorry to be blunt but thrush can be AWFUL! Also they can play havoc with gut flora too because all the commensal bacteria ("good" bacteria), that help us digest our food, are killed

    Nodule/cyst treatment

NB: I don't know whether this was a cyst or nodule but I get them frequently and they are always itchy and lumpy. Sometimes they come to a head like this one, sometimes they just stay beneath the skin. Progression of a reemerged nodule with the active breakout treatment (2.5% panoxyl and sudocrem). After nodule rupture I stopped the panoxyl and just used sudocrem for a couple of days. After the skin had healed properly I then started using Nicam gel to try to help the fading of HP.

    A Day Of Nothing....

Yay! I'm so glad things are looking less angry. HP does take a while to disappear completely but have been experimenting with Nicam on the pigmented areas of my face and am posting photo progress if you're interested. Do you use green colour corrective under foundation at all? It may help if you're having a particularly bad redness day. I used to use a pencil concealer from boots but I think clinique make one that Lisa Eldridge recommends. May also be worth looking into redness solutions make u
  7. So I thought I'd try your method for a couple of days and ditched everything bar water. For the first 2 days there was no change in my skin (currently I suffer from mild acne comedones and the occasional breakout when stressed or when I tried rosehip seed oil...grrr) but third day: BANG! Four early stage bumps...doh! I'm not refuting the acid mantle theory that your skin is ph 4.5-5.5 for a reason and trying to disturb that may make the situation worse but I think for me using water only as a cl
  8. Does the water method actually help unclog pores? From my experience (there may be many different etiologies for acne) not doing any cleaning has never helped. Have you tried any cleansers without artificial chemicals? Have you tried niacinamide? It's meant to be good for hyperpigmentation and for mild - moderate acne and I'm currently trying it out. Personally I found that BP was the only thing that helped my cysts clear up quickly.

    Best Course Of Action?

try to avoid mechanical scrubs if you can (i.e. the abrasive ones) and switch to a chemical exfoliator (I think DermE do a BHA/AHA lotion and Paula's choice do one). For me I used a salicylic acid containing face wash (for years I used Acnisal which can be bought through a pharmacy off prescription). Then apply a salicylic acid or beta-hydroxy acid containing liquid or toner. This increases the effectiveness of the BP which I would apply next and then a light moisturiser containing ideally 1.

Happy New Year N.Clare! and everyone else following your thread.... I hope you managed to have a fun time with your mates for NYE It certainly looks like your active acne has basically disappeared from your most recent two photos (compared with the 9th december two) - excellent! It looks like you have some hyperpigmentation which is the majority of the redness and even in your 9th december pictures I can only make out 4-5 active inflammatory acne lesions in total....I can't see any in your

Hey I've just read your entire blog - it's been quite a story - and I wanted to reply (sorry for the length). Thank you so much for the consistent updates. It has been captivating reading and while it's horrible to read you go through the ups and downs, and have the same feelings that a lot of us have felt, it's vicariously cathartic to come to the last post to know that you have found an overall improvement, subjectively and objectively. From your photos your skin looks like it has improved g

    Tried and Tested...

Ditto! In fact I gave up on birth control for my acne completely about a month ago. I was on Yasmin (I had been on Dianette and didn't feel taht it was that it was altogether that beneficial plus my dermatologist said that coming off it can cause even worse skin problems, as you mention) but I don't think this did anything for my skin. A month off Yasmin and I have noticed fewer breakouts. Nothing else in my routine has changed! Moreover my skin looks healthier - less dull. I do however, ha
