    Is accutane working for me?

It'll work, don't worry. Sometimes it just takes a while and you'll have doubts. It took me 6-8 weeks before any kind of results. For some people, it will take longer, but the end result is always the same
  2. It takes a while for Accutane to build up a therapeutic level in your body. But don't be worried, my doctor told me that he's never seen anyone not have results on Accutane. For some people, it takes a while for the skin to dry out. I'm guessing in a couple of weeks you'll be asking advice on how to deal with your dry skin
  3. So I thought I'd share, given the amount that's been written about this topic. I am a 28 year old male who finished his second round of Accutane about July of 2014. The first course was 60 mg/day for 5 months, the second was 80 mg/day for 6 months. I noticed that after about 3 weeks after my first course, I was having trouble maintaining an erection. I was never depressed while on Accutane and had virtually no side-effects (abnormal blood work, loss of night vision, irritable bowel) while on t

Claravis Log- I Guess Everyone's Doing It!

My (hopefully) final post on this Accutane Log! So my course ended back in March.... Well, not really, because I had slowly been taking less and less Accutane instead of stopping abruptly like in my first course. I weaned from twice a day to once a day, then to once every two days, then twice a week, and finally once a week. However, by the time I got to that point, I was getting quite a bit of uninflamed bumps on my forehead and my skin was getting oily again. This happened the first time I

Ok guys, about 1.5 months in. I'm basically completely clear. HOORAY. I had a chat with my derm. She says that what happened to me was pretty common for someone who has moderate-severe acne. She is impressed by how quickly I clear; she says it takes most people 2-3 months to see big improvement. She also suggested going high on the last month. I think this is probably a good idea. When I'm on accutane, I can do almost anything and not break out. My skin isn't actually too dry right now due t

Rich: thanks for the insurance advice. I intended to do that, but my derm is particularly anal about prescribing the right number of pills. I wish I knew someone who can hook me up with accutane. Biggs: absolutely, my skin has always been super oily. Before my first course, it was wiping every 30 minutes or so. I think it got better after the first course, but I guess when the oily crept back, so did the acne. Thanks for the study. I don't think I'm quite at 1.5mg/kg/day, but it is greater t

I'm about 1 month into my second course. Things look good. About last week, pretty much all my initial breakout pimples dried out and nothing has cropped up since. HA! It's so frustrating to have it work so fast and then not stick in the end. I would say right now my skin is drier than it was on the first course. It could be because of the weather. I'm getting a lot of peeling on my hands and neck.

Thanks richard, I appreciate the encouragement. Yea, totally agree: my skin was flawless for the last 3.5 months I was on accutane and then for about 1.5 months afterwards. I see a lot of people don't have clear skin on accutane until the third and fourth months, and for some reason, even though I clear earlier than them, it doesn't stay that way. My remission seems super short. Most people, even if they don't stay clear forever, they at least get a couple of years out of each course. Did yo

richardb, yes... I ramped up to every day towards the very end. It just didn't seem to be doing anything. My skin is weird because it responds really well to treatment, but it just doesn't last. I figured that since I had been on the retin a micro for ~2.5 months, it seemed a little pointless to keep plugging away.

Hey guys, I'm about 2 weeks into my second course. I did get an initial flare up again (same as last time). Right now, I'm getting really dry around my cheeks, but still a touch oily on my forehead. I did get severe flaking this past week, but it seems to be settling down a bit. I still get a couple of uninflammed whiteheads popping up. My lips are hella dry. I had my second month's doctor's appointment last week (blood work looks good). I'm trying to stay positive right now. I don't have much d

Ok guys, so I've been on Claravis for about 4 days now. I'm drying quicker this time around because my skin was still drier from the first round. I've still got pimples and red marks from this last breakout, but seems to be calming down. I'm still waiting for an initial breakout because it happened the first time. I hope this accutane thing works out. I'm stressed out from this last round. ugh.

Looks like I'm going back on accutane! My derm said it's either another course of accutane or a different cleanser. Seemed like an obvious choice for me. This time, she said let's do a much higher dose: 120/80 alternating. I just got my prescription and bloodwork. I'm hoping I can start towards the end of the week. Yay! I'm just bummed from my first experience on accutane, but I don't regret doing it because that 5+ months was one of the happiest of my life. I know that sounds shallow, and n

Post-accutane 2.5 months Sigh.... you guys, my little breakout is not improving. My skin is getting more oily, except for my cheeks. I've got a dermatologist appointment on Tuesday... not really looking forward to that. I'm just a little disappointed and down right now. Right now, I'm getting like a couple of new whitehead/borderline cysts every day. It seems to be getting worse, although I really can't tell at this point. Admittedly, it's nowhere as bad as it was before... yet. I just reall

Post-Claravis 2 months: Thanks Sasch, hope everything is fantabulous with you. So some updates. I got a couple of whiteheads around where my nose meets my face. I've been using retin-a micro pretty consistently every other night. I feel like maybe the 0.1% is a little harsh for that area, considering the skin is supposedly a little thinner. I've been getting pimples on my scalp which is really weird because I've almost never had any there before. You might think I'm freaking out right n

Claravis Log- I Guess Everyone's Doing It!

Post-Claravis 4 weeks: My oil production has increased slightly around my T-zone. Being on accutane, I thought I would completely dread this moment, but now that it's happened/happening, it doesn't seem like a big deal for a couple of reasons: 1. When I was oily before, I also had really red skin from my combination of Benzaclin and tretinoin and it made it look 10X worse. 2. The oil now doesn't shine like it used to, so I end up looking pretty much normal. 3. I don't feel the oil so m
