  1. It takes time (and trials), but it does work

For context: I'm 17 and have had moderate acne since I was 13. I tried everything OTC and nothing really worked. Last year, I went to a dermatologist and tried several different combinations (Epiduo + Doxycycline, Acanya + Doxycycline, etc) and finally, Acanya and Tretin-X (0.0375% tretinoin). That combination worked and I was the most clear I'd ever been since I started getting acne. My dermatologist then suggested I move to a stronger tretinoin (Retin-A Micro in 0.08% formulation) and that wor
  2. I've been taking Doxycycline since early October and the only side effect I've noticed is increased passage of gas. I'm not sure how much it has helped, but it has helped my acne.
  3. Hi there! So, last week I went back to my dermatologist and while we both agree there was some improvement, we decided to change things up. So, I got a prescription for Acanya and Tretin-X (a tretinoin cream). Those aren't the problem. The problem is that I get really dry in places where the medication isn't applied at all and when I go to moisturize those areas with anything but water (even Cetaphil or CeraVe), it burns really bad. Any suggestions on dealing with this? Could it really be that t
  4. Works okay for a while, but it didn't do much.

Relatively gentle Mildly moisturizing Easy enough to use Does not keep acne at bay Has a fragrance that may be offputting I tried this after just not having any luck with any other topicals. Initially, it did help clear my breakouts and prevented some, but that was it. All those other benefits (helping with marks, really preventing new ones) didn't quite apply to me. The tubes are small and can get expensive, but it is relatively gentle enough for daily use. Needless to say, I wouldn't bother wi
  5. As part of my dermatologist's approach to control my moderate acne, I was prescribed Doryx 200 mg to take. I was instructed to take one 200 mg tablet every day until the next follow up visit (which is in early December). I read in the PI sheet that I only had to take 100 mg after day 1, but then I called and they confirmed that it's 200 mg every day. My question is: has anyone else been on Doryx for longer than a couple of weeks? Is it safe to be on an antibiotic for this long?
  6. Great moisturizer, period.

Has a light, not creamy consistency Moisturizes well Contains hydrators and niacinamide My dermatologist recommended I use this in my routine because of my skin that tends to be either really dry or moderately oily. I love it. I love the lightweight consistency, the hydration factor, and the fact that it has niacinamide, which helps reduce inflammation and redness. It goes perfectly above my Epiduo. For a few nights it did burn a bit, but I found out that my cleanser at the time was at fault.
  7. I agree. I'm Filipino and I use CeraVe Hydrating and it works well for me.
  8. One of the best facial cleansers I've used, so far.

Mild formula Comes in large and small bottles Contains extra skin-healthy ingredients Relatively expensive (but CeraVe usually has coupons) Does not foam After a bout of strong dryness and irritation caused by my use of Purpose face wash, I needed to find something that would replenish my skin while being very, very gentle. This was it. After reading reviews between CeraVe and Cetaphil and CeraVe Foaming vs this one, I decided on this cleanser because A) I was already using CeraVe AM and PM face
  9. Good cleanser, but a tad harsh on my combo skin.

Foams quickly Has a light fragrance A little goes a long way Dries out non-oily areas Kinda expensive I bought this on a whim while at Target. I had previously been using a salicylic acid-based scrub which did okay, but I knew it was too harsh. Initially this worked out well and I had bought it right on time because my dermatologist started me on Epiduo and Doryx. After a month, I found that it dries out my cheeks more than I expected a gentle cleanser to, but it's probably just how my skin is.
  10. I really need help now. I have school pictures coming up soon, but there is one problem. I have a zit (about the size of a pencil eraser) on my chin. I know that acne doesn't typically go away overnight, but I kinda need this one to go away. Here is what I have at my disposal: Neutrogena Acne Control Lotion (2.5% BP gel from the Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System) Clean & Clear Popped Pimple Relief Gel Pen (2% salicylic acid gel that also works on active pimples) Boots Expert Anti-Blem
  11. I use the Neutrogena Complete Acne Therapy System and love it. The only problem is that it doesn't control oil that well. As a result, my nose (which is the most oily part of my combo skin) still has acne, whereas my oily, but not as oily as my nose, forehead is clear. What product can I use after cleansing to remove oil? Does anyone have a suggestion for an astringent or toner? Or can I just use my Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control toner?
BP is a gel (yes!) Comes with a day lotion Cleanser is really GENTLE for an acne cleanser Costs less than other systems Does not control oil that well Day lotion and BP gel bottles are small Will only clear if used consistently every day I bought this a few weeks before school came back. It is awesome. It cleared up my forehead, but my nose and the edges still get zits and are oily. I have been using it for about almost three weeks now, with some times skipped, and it's
  12. Hi, I am having a big problem. I started BenzaClin two weeks ago, and the first week, I noticed no difference from when I was using my previous product (Neutrogena On-The-Spot 2.5% Benzoyl Peroxide). This week, however, things got ugly. I developed a pimple on the surface on my nose (surprisingly, on the tip of my nose, I never get pimples). That smaller pimple ruptured yesterday, but 3 days ago, a larger, way more noticeable and swollen pimple appeared. Another problem is that it hurts when tou
  13. My definite question is that: Why are most OTC Benzoyl Peroxide products have 10% or "maximum-strength" Benzoyl Peroxide? Is it the connotation that "the highest level is the best"? Do the manufacturers know that prescription products don't typically go above 5%? Side note: For me, not only do 5% and 10% Benzoyl Peroxide products not work better than 2.5%, they actually don't work at all!
  14. I was recently prescribed Benzaclin (clindamycin/benzoyl peroxide) by my dermatologist for my moderate acne. The night I first ever applied it (which was yesterday), I was staring at the SPF moisturizer and realized that it doesn't really provide full protection. Does anyone have recommendations on a sunscreen? I am thinking of buying Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch SPF 55 sunscreen, and I want to hear from people that have either used this product or anyone that has other recommendations/
Inexpensive Gel Fresh smell Cools skin none so far I am in love with this! After application, it feels near invisible! And yes, there is some fragrance, but it is not irritating or overbearing.
  15. I just purchased the Refreshing Gel-Cream today, and I have to say, it is awesome! It actually does not burn or sting, considering that I once used a moisturizer for "sensitive skin" (it was a store-brand) and that one burned terribly.
  16. Hello people of the Acne.org message boards, I'm new here . I recently switched from the Oxy Clinical routine to the Acne.org regimen. I was wondering if anyone has anything to say about the Garnier Moisture Rescue line. Although I use the Lightweight UV-Lotion in the line (religiously, in fact), I am thinking about purchasing the plain moisturizer (the gel-cream), but I wanted some reviews on that and the cleanser, too.
Inexpensive Smells great Plain Deep cleans None so far! After having my skin tortured by a harsh acne treatment, I thought I would follow the Regimen. The first time I used this cleanser, afterwards, my skin felt so fresh and invigorated; like no other cleanser has given me this invigorated feeling. I just love it!

Works intially Easy to apply Stops working within one tube I bought this to help with my acne, and within the use of a tube, a lot of my breakouts cleared. Halfway into the second tube, though, it stopped working completely.

Great for bacne Gel Ruined my favorite shirt Doesn't dry quickly enough I used this for my bacne, and it helped a lot. I had to stop using it because it dried my skin up a lot. I now use something else for my body acne.

Somewhat works Cleanser smells good After a few days, cleanser burns Made my skin super dry and sensitive!! I thought I would use this (not the solutions pack, just the cleanser and treatment), to help with my acne. The first three days, my skin felt fine. After that, washing with the cleanser burned, and the treatment started to burn, too. At the start of my second week, my skin had gotten so dry and irritated, I had to stop this system. I am now following the Regimen to some degree (
