  1. One of the great things about this site is that everyone here shares a common bond. Dealing with acne. So you are definitely not alone. Experimenting with diet intake can be quite helpful for some people. Greatly cutting down on sugars and dairy have been sighted as beneficial. However there's no conclusive medical evidence on that. Still if you find something that works, go with it. Also avoid over washing of the face. If your face is red it may be because it is irritated. Be gentle with your
  2. It seems like acne is a very individualized condition. Everyone has a specific type (and combination of types) that they deal with, to varying extremes. No matter what your view on diet and acne, it's always important to be mindful of what your putting into your body. The older I get the more I learn this lesson. Also I don't feel comfortable radically changing my food intake and life style out of "acne desperation". I've tried taking steps like that before, and it has never been a permanent s
  3. I'm into my 4th month of Accutane. And I use Cetiphil all the time. This is the 3rd time I've been on Accutane. I find that it helps and my acne is quite moderate for three or four years and then for no apparent reason it comes back with vengeance. If this is the first time you've used Accutane then it may work very well. A small minority of people have a bad reaction to it (headaches, nausea, etc.), you'll probably have no problems though. I believe that the permanent success rate is about
  4. LMAO Me too! I DID cut it out like 4-5 months ago. Ummm, I don't think it's helping. Maybe I should give up giving it up, lol. Seriously, I should get some kind of reward for this, is there a spot in the guinness book of world records. Oh wait, nevermind, not sure I want to be remembered for that!! Ahh the things we do for/to our bodies.
  5. Does anyone know anything about accredited acne research? I've been wondering about just how much funding goes into research aimed at curing acne. I'm sure there are many recent studies out there. But it still seems like we know very little about the root cause and treatment of acne. Sever acne is more devastating then the public at large is aware of. If I had millions - no why stop there- billions of dollars, I'd put a lot of money into acne research.
  6. It certainly stands to reason that what we take into our bodies affects our body (in this case acne). It is something that I have tried to figure out for years. Thru the years I have tried cutting certain things out. I have never been able to make any connection. There was a time when I thought cutting dairy would do the trick, but after about 3 or 4 months of that diet, I broke out and developed another cyst. I've had a couple of dermatologists tell me that sugar may be a factor. I even tried
  7. Thank You for all the kind words. It's great to have a web community like this. Well done Dan (founder) and company.
  8. Definitely sounds like the lady at the spa is a grifter. Spend your money on a dermatologist if you are able to.
  9. I've had acne for nearly 20 years of my life now. My acne has gone in cycles thru the years. Sometimes very moderate to sometimes quite sever. I have scars on my shoulders and face. I have found that it's worst effects are psychological. Approaching the opposite sex has always been tough for me. Mainly because when I have a big pimple on the side of my mouth it's hard the look anyone in the eye, let alone win a kiss from them. Going swimming is practically a phobia. I've had one meaningful rel
  10. Hi Nellie. I'm a 31... going on 32 year old man and I'm amazed by how similar my acne problems are to what you're describing. It's something that I've lived with since about jr high. I've got my scars. My acne has been moderate, even mild for about four or five years. And then out of no where, I have have deep red spots on my back and shoulders and pimples around my mouth. I'm on Acutane again, but they took me off of it for two weeks because I had very high Triglyceride levels. Even before I st
