  1. You are a beautiful girl. I looked at the pictures you posted of yourself, and I didn't even focus on your acne, I just zeroed in on how pretty you are. I know that it's hard to see past the acne sometimes, but just know that as someone on the outside, what I see right away is not your acne. I would suggest doing something positive to try to make yourself feel good and distracted. The happier you feel, the less likely you'll be to pick. Even if it's going for a walk, sometimes that can he
  2. Have you been to a dermatologist? Obviously a doctor had to prescribe you minocycline, but was it a derm or your general care provider? If you haven't been to a derm, take steps as soon as possible to see one. Call your general care provider, set up an appointment as soon as possible, and ask for a referral to a dermatologist. General care providers can try to help you, but in my experience they probably just don't have the skills to help you as much as a derm. PLEASE, PLEASE SEE A DERM!
  3. Try to be EXTRA gentle with your skin, like as gentle as possible. I was told to put petroleum jelly on my face after my laser treatment, because I guess more moisture helps the cells regenerate way faster. Maybe you could try that? The nurse also said that keeping my face covered in ointment would help keep the crusties away, or sort of keep them from sticking to my face and itching. It does make sense, with my face being this greasy nothing can really dry on it. Would that be something yo
  4. As the title says, I am five days post co2 fractional laser resurfacing. I feel like I should warn people not to let my post persuade or dissuade them from having this treatment. It's only been five days, and I have yet to see my final results. With that said, and please excuse my language, MY FACE SMELLS LIKE A DEAD FUCKING FISH. And...I've been inside for five days, wandering around my house, or laying in bed, or staring in fascination at the mirror which seems to show me a more disgusting
  5. Well, it's day 35, and I've been bumped up to 40 mg/day. My triglycerides were a little higher than they like to see (I think I saw her write 210 down...how bad is that??) so she put me on fish oil twice a day, and I have to go back in a week to have them check my triglycerides. I'm just crossing my fingers that they'll go down because I do NOT want to be taken off claravis. After all the shit I've been through, I just want to get it over with, and I can't imagine stopping after I've put so m

    day 29

wow, almost done with one month. This month, being on only 20 mg/day, has been pretty smooth sailing for me. I'm continuing to use Retin A and my sulfa sulfur cream (I kind of feel guilty for some reason about doing this, since my derm said I wasn't going to be able to handle doing it all, but I'll talk to her about it on Wednesday). My skin's pretty dry, which I actually like. I just like that it feels like something's happening. Everything looks pretty smooth, I just still have red marks

    day 22

So...when I blew my nose just now, it was all bloody. Gross. I have just started using a neti pot though, so I'm not sure, but that might be a contributing factor. Do those make you have bloody noses? It doesn't seem like they should. For those of you who don't know what a neti pot is and would like to be grossed out (or fascinated), a neti pot is something you use to pour warm salt water through your nasal passages. You stick it in one nostril, tip your head at a very precise angle, and t

    Day 18

Wow, day 18 already. It's funny how time works - the time seems to take forever when it's actually happening, but then when you look back it doesn't seem like that long. If only the next 5 months would just fly by! My skin is still fine. No breakouts. Sorry, I can't captivate you all with any amazing/disgusting popping stories. I haven't had a zit in quite a while. The thing that's really starting to bug me are my scars. Now that all the acne is gone, I can actually see how much of a
  9. woo! I actually forgot what day I was on and had to check! Maybe this means the time will start to go by more quickly, that would be nice. So I went out last night to the bars and had a blast, but I'm starting to get a little nervous about my amount of self control in the whole not drinking thing. I had a mixed drink, about 1/3 of a long island, then another mixed drink, then 1/2 a shot (I drunkenly made my friend take most of it cause I started freaking about about having too much, ha.) I w
  10. Oh my goodness! I just read your blog, and while your skin is doing excellent and everything, all I started to care about was your ex situation! It makes me feel like such a girl because I'm sitting here reading it from the beginning and the whole time just rooting for you to have something good happen with your ex, because your situation sounds so similar to what I'm going through (or have gone through, depending on how you look at it...ugh. I realize this sentence probably doesn't make sens

    day 8

Well, it's still pretty early, but I think I'm maybe having some side effects. I really don't want to blame everything on taking this drug though, so I'm hesitant to say that these are most definitely due to Claravis, but let's just say I feel a little different lately. First off, OW! The corners of my mouth hurt so bad! I can barely open my mouth or smile without them hurting, especially the right side. I think I put aquaphor on three times today and even though it helped, it still sti
  12. What exactly do you mean when you say you'll use "half a pinky?" If you mean half the size of your pinky finger, that is waaaaay too much. Trust me, I use maybe a little more than half the size of a pea. That's for my whole face, and I only put it on my cheeks. That's hardly anything, and my face turned very red and peeled like crazy even with that amount. Using more than recommended won't give you faster or better results, it'll just increase your chances of irritation and/or an IB. You s
  13. Can you ask your doctor/derm for a course of antibiotics to help ease the initial breakout? I was on Bactrim for about a month before I started Retin A, and I hardly had an IB at all, and now I'm seeing beautiful results with it. If you can get through the nervousness, possible peeling and redness, and possible IB, it will be worth it. Just make SURE you follow the directions they give you, i.e. wait 20-30 min after cleansing to apply, don't get it in your nose or mouth or eyes, and start off
  14. Wow, thanks mebe and cartwheeling monkey! Wow, there are lots of smiley face options. This is pretty awesome. But what's with the one playing a violin? I did start a blog, but I'm not sure how to attach a link to my signature...anyone able to help me out with that? mebe: it is definitely tiring, it's really a shame to think of all the energy we use in obsessing over things like scars. I sometimes get frustrated because I think I'd have all this energy to concentrate on other, really imp
  15. Wow, that is amazing that someone could be that open. I don't know if I'd have the guts to announce to everyone on facebook that I was on Accutane. That's really cool, she must feel pretty good and secure with herself! I just became a member, and I wanted to tell you that I love your blog! It gave me quite a few laughs yesterday while I was reading it (especially the thing about the dance moves being illegal in Iran) and it's also really cool how you're so open about everything. It's help
  16. First post! I'm so glad I found this board. I've never found anyone I was able to talk with about this topic that truly understood, and now I find a whole group of people! I can't believe some of the things I'm reading, because they are exactly the things that have been ruling my life. I've always had some problems with acne, and usually had at least 3 or 4 pimples from the time I was about 12 up until now. I remember a guy saying in 6th grade: "what's that thing on your face? a mosquito
