  1. Hello! I'm sorry my response took... So long. Geeze. Apparently, MANY people who take Accutane, especially females, end up needing multiple treatments (usually 2). If you think the benefits outweigh the risks, go ahead and go for it! My skin has been pretty chilled out except for around my period. The week of my period and about four days following it likes to break out. I've started taking 10,000 IU of vitamin A a day about three weeks ago and I noticed that when I break out it's small
  2. Hey, guys. I'll be short and sweet with this update because I'm in a bit of a hurry. I took the birth control for a month and, although it helped my minor breakouts quickly, it caused me to have severe migraines with an aura, which is BAD. I cannot use any sort of birth control containing estrogen, now. My PCOS diagnosis was confirmed. I am now currently on 500mg/day of Metformin and 25mg/day of Sprionolactone. My skin was TOTALLY CLEAR (albeit oily) until a few days ago. However, I had b
  3. So, I got my prescription a few days ago and the pharmacist told me I only needed to start the pill on my period if I wanted immediate protection against pregnancy. Since I'm anxious to get my hormones in check and I wouldn't have known when my next period would be anyway, I went ahead and started on the 23rd. So far, no beginner's side effects, and obviously, no improvement yet. I go to the Endocrinologist on Wednesday to figure out what to do about my super elevated DHEA-S levels (they're 6
  4. Hello, all! I recently finished a course of Accutane (a few months ago, July), and about a month after finishing, all of the oil had returned to my skin and I started to break out again. I went to my dermatologist and all that she could say was that she was stunned. I asked her and she said, "If this topical [epiduo] doesn't work, you may want to consider it." Well, at that point I was honestly pissed. I wanted answers. Acne is related to hormones, so I started researching endocrine disord
  5. Thanks! I'm hoping that a lot of this is the IB from the epiduo, as it is getting closer to the time of my period and I seem to be breaking out less. That would be excellent. I feel awful for being so negligent to my inner workings. The eyes are the window to the soul, and the skin is the window to the inner functions of the body. Plagued with acne and excess body hair since the age of 10, I can't believe no one considered that it could've been PCOS or some other endocrine problem. I feel
  6. Thanks, guys! My doctor ended up prescribing me Sprintec (and Ortho-Cyclen generic). My testosterone levels are rather high, as are my DHEA levels. She says that the Sprintec should work wonders based on my blood work. I'm starting it when my next period starts. I've never wanted a period so badly in my life! I can't wait.
  7. I'm so happy for you!!!! It's an inexplicable feeling. The Accutane experience is a unique one. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Hey, guys. I suppose you all need an update! Well, the acne isn't dying down. I went to the Women's Health Center we have on campus and my doctor said it sounded like I had PCOS. She prescribed me Sprintec (Ortho-Cyclen generic) to start taking when my next period comes, and said it SHOULD help. After my appointment, she sent me to the lab for blood work. Today was my follow-up appointment. My testosterone is pretty high, and my DHEA-S is REALLY high. She said that the Sprintec should wo
  9. Oh my gosh, that would be AMAZING. I've been wanting someone to talk to about it. Ever since I've considered that I might have it, EVERYTHING I've been through since puberty hit me has made so much sense. I think a PCOS/Spiro/Yaz thread would be amazing. I'm sure there are other women on the boards who with this disease, and what better way to connect to one another? I'm definitely PM'ing you. Hopefully this won't be some wild goose chase as I try to figure out what's wrong with me. Thank
  10. Thank you so much. <3 I'm really hoping that this isn't going to be a struggle, too. After all I've been through, I almost feel like giving up again.
  11. Thanks, guys. Like I said, I'm still breaking out, but it's not terrible. I'm going to a gynecologist on Thursday primarily to be prescribed birth control, but I think that I also might have PCOS. I've done a lot of research on it, so I'm going to ask her if we can look into that. If I do have it, then that is why I'm breaking out post-Accutane. Accutane is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I don't regret any of it.
  12. Yeah, I definitely will. I'm going to a gyno this time, so I might ask her about PCOS as well. Thanks a lot!
  13. "Hello, all. For all of you who don't know, I had a rather miraculous Accutane journey. However, I have been off it for two months, and once those girly hormones start kicking in, my skin is NOT happy. It's still very, very mild acne, but it bothers me. My dermatologist said that I could take birth control for it if I wanted, and I do want to. I need your help determining which would be best. Here is what she gave me to choose from: Ortho tri-cyclen Orthocept Yaz Yasmine Estrostep" This is fr
  14. I'm 18, and I believe that I have PCOS. I have a field of fine hair on my face, as well as some dark, curly hair that likes to grow along my jawline and under my chin (I pluck and shave it). I just finished a course of Accutane two months ago, and about a week before my period started this month, my face started breaking out. It's not terrible. They're uninflammed and small. However, I obviously DON'T appreciate it. I went back to my dermatologist and she wrote me a prescription for Epiduo
  15. Hey, how did that go? I wish I'd seen this earlier. It's not required for you to be on birth control while taking Accutane. You can sign an abstinence form instead, saying that you're not going to engage in any sexual activity, and if you do and you get pregnant, you have to deal with the consequences, not the company. My dad made me do that while I was on Accutane, I guess because he could. I was 17, about to turn 18. I'm 18 now and about to go on birth control to regulate my acne... Whi
