  1. Thanks so much for your reply! Super helpful and so nice to hear I'm not alone in this chaos! I'm underweight too but I've heard of people being prescribed Metformin for PCOS as an alternative to combination bc. I was under the impression PCOS had to do with insulin resistance? Still learning about it though, but I'm pretty confident I have it at this point. When I googled PCOS acne it looked exactly like what mine looked like, whereas when I was looking for acne that looked like mine on here ba
  2. I'll try to keep this brief: I had acne as a teenager, was on Accutane at 12, and went on hormonal birth control when I was 15. About 2 years ago I went off birth control because I was sick of the mood swings and I got worse migraines when I was on it. A few months of being off the hormones and my skin basically erupted like nothing I've ever seen before. I've literally never seen worse acne on anyone, including most of the pictures here. It was incredibly painful and it was so horrible and de
  3. Thanks. I so hope it works for you! Sadly I tried all the things you mentioned for about a year with no results. I'm really not exaggerating when I say my skin was the worst I have ever seen, even on this site. I truly didn't know it was possible for it to be that bad. I just didn't have another year or more of that in me. My face was also starting to scar badly and I just didn't feel comfortable letting that continue to worsen indefinitely. I had to get on with my life. I also suspect I might h
  4. Thanks so much for this! I so appreciate it. It's just nice to hear that anyone understands. I definitely feel like I did what I had to do at this point in my life and with the limited funds I have available and no health insurance. If I had lots of money and doctors at my disposal, I might've made a different choice, or tried for longer, but it is what it is. I was on one course of Accutane when I was 12, though it's crazy to me that my skin recently (before going back on the pill) was about te
  5. thanks for the suggestion. I've never heard of this brand, but I like that they use natural products. Do you use their makeup too? No prob! I use their mascara and love it, and also like some of their lip glosses and cheek tint. I don't use any of their face makeup though. Tried their concealer once but it was way too dark for me. I also really love their acne products, at least the cleanser and tonique. Didn't notice any huge improvement with the spot treatment. For face powder, I use Everyda

  7. Oh God, I've done so much I've tried everything. I even tried natural progesterone cream which I think might have helped a bit but ended up screwing up my natural balance even more in the long run and when I told my Dr. about it she was like, "whhhattttt? That stuff is for menopausal women!" And I'll be the first to tell you how hard this is butttt- currently I eat Paleo. That means (no unnatural meats, no preservatives, no sugar, no legumes like peanuts, no soy, no wheat or grains, even rice,

  9. I love this Luminous Primer from 100 Percent Pure. It's the only one I've found that doesn't break me out. A little pricey but it's all natural and lasts a long time. I try to use a really minimal amount too since I have oily skin. http://www.100percentpure.com/Luminous-Primer-Vitamins-Antioxidants-With-Resve-p/1cfp.htm
  10. Totally agree with you here. In addition to having no oversight, no authority, and no accountability, the FDA doesn't do independent testing. (You alluded to this. I'm sure you're aware. Just sharing with everyone else.) The research they use to determine safety is often paid for by the companies themselves. When scientists' paychecks are being signed by the corporation whose product they're testing, I wonder what their conclusion will be about the safety of that product. The FDA is a terrible b
  11. Kinda depressing but very helpful! Thanks so much for sharing this with us. My skin is recovering from the most severe acne I've ever had, and I'm noticing a few scars. Does the needling help you? And have you ever tried chemical peels?
  12. I haven't posted here in a while. My skin was almost 100% clear for years until I went off birth control. A few months being off Nuvaring and my skin EXPLODED. The most severe acne I've ever had or ever SEEN. I woke up with several new HUGE, excruciatingly painful pimples every morning, and it just kept getting worse and worse and worse. It was awful and I was the most depressed I've ever been. During that time I tried EVERYTHING short of Accutane, and nothing worked. I was on Accutane as a teen
  13. Don't use it on your face. I've done it before and wouldn't again. It doesn't help and causes more scarring. Try Witch Hazel or Apple Cider Vinegar instead. Or buy a natural toner. I like this one: http://www.100percentpure.com/PURITY-HYDRATING-TONIQUE-s/418.htm
  14. Unfortunately, Cortisone shots are the only thing that has helped my cysts go away faster. Why won't your parents let you get them? I know you said they don't like your derm, but I don't understand what that has to do with anything. Go to another derm and get them, or try to make your parents understand that this is something every dermatologist does. It just sounds like they're being unreasonable and nonsensical. I've been to several dermatologists in my life. All of them do cortisone shots for
  15. Thanks! I was using SA & AHA for a while and was getting no better results than I am now, but perhaps I'll use them again for the short term. I've also been on Doxycycline & Minocycline, the latter just a few weeks ago, and no improvement. I've literally tried everything. The only thing that has ever worked is birth control. I stupidly went off it a few months ago and just started taking it again so hoping to see results again soon. I was on Accutane when I was a teenager and that too di
