  1. Have a nodule from subcision, and had 1 round of kenalog. When I touch it, seems to have flattened the nodule, but visually kinda looks the same. Does kenalog actually treat the nodule or just flatten all the skin?
  2. Hi gang! My background: Lurker for close to 10 years, almost as long as I have had acne. I am a mid-20s college student raising a sibling. In other words, I have no time. I want to look presentable, though. This is why clearing my skin naturally is so important to me. I also don't wear makeup.. so it's magnifies the issue. I'm a hard INTJ, if you dig MBTI. That means I'm typically anxious and tense, which I'm sure is a big part of my acne. BCP (Yasmin) cleared my skin in my teens. Went off of it because of some of the possible side effects, then went on Spiro, which worked perfectly. However, I want to heal my body. I don't want to be on medication forever. Both my parents have adult acne, so I could be looking at hard cysts on my face with other inflamed red rolling hills until I hit menopause. I was going to do Accutane, but stopped when I realized I would have to go back on Yasmin (i.e. my skin would be perfect on yasmin so I doubt the accutane would cure me.) I am using the Neutrogena light therapy mask right now. It is helping but I doubt it will help as much as I need. I eat a diet of chicken, vegetables, and glucomannan/oat fiber (non-soluble fibers that fill you up and pass right through.) I have always had chronic constipation, so I take Miralax. When I don't take it, the inflammation gets worse. I have noticed that if I eat a ton of vegetables, my skin can get inflamed. This worries me. When I don't eat, or eat tiny portions to keep myself from starving, acne is reduced. But how can I sustain that? It doesn't seem possible. I know tanning and sweating/working out have helped in the past, but on this diet I have no energy to work out. I am scared of how hungry it would make me. No, not anorexic. I'm 5'6 and ~140. If you have read this far, my heartfelt thanks. I am so grateful for this community. Acne is such a difficult disease to deal with in the modern world-the shame, I mean. MY QUESTION: Is there anything else I can do for my acne naturally? Should I just suck it up and go back on Spiro?
  3. When I was 12 years old, I started to develop mild acne. Mostly small bumps on the forehead and etc. One day, at the age of 17, my skin developed a huge blood-filled cyst. After that, my skin began to get worse and worse, so I went to the dermatologist. The only thing she prescribed me was Accutane (I had never tried any other treatments prior to this) and I felt pressured to try it. It made my already bad cystic acne into extremely severe cystic acne, but a few months later it did eventually clear me. I had to end a month or two early because of brain swelling, though. After only a few months, my acne came back and then a year later I had the worst cystic acne of my life. The only thing that has helped was an antibiotic that a completely idiotic doctor prescribed, saying it was safe for long-term use. It worked perfectly and 100% of my severe cystic acne was gone. I eventually became resistant to the antibiotic, though, and some very severe side-effects began to happen from stopping the drug. Now, if I have a bug-bite or a blister, it would become infected and leave strange lumps under the skin. I have had a UTI (or something) that has caused a lump/tumour inside my urethra for a few months and won't go away. I had a respiratory infection in Japan that went away for a couple years, but now has come back suddenly because of the antibiotic. Apart from those issues, my acne began to come back as well, but then I discovered a supplement called 'Niacin'. It completely got rid of my acne and I soon learned to love the flush. Unfortunately, those effects were temporary, and after a month of using Niacin my acne has now come back. I now have dry skin, ONLY nodule and cystic acne on my cheeks (meaning no whiteheads or pustules at all), and an array of other issues. Please help me find the root cause of my acne and some suggestions. I can't take birth-control due to stroke issues that I also seemed to have on Accutane. My next step was to buy Dan's Regimen or Spironolactone and Guggul, candida probiotics, and vitamin supplements. Here are some photos from when my acne came back after Accutane:
  4. HELP! Skin is freaking out! (Pics)

    Forums Hormonal acne 3 replies

I seriously don't know what's happening. I've had my acne over control for at least a year and now this is happening. I skipped my period last month and ever since then my skin has been a disaster. It's only getting worse. I know his is all hormonal because my pimples are very inflamed. WHAT DO I DO!!! I have an important presentation on Friday and i need people looking at my work, not my skin I've inserted some pics what my skin was like wo months ago and what it looks like now.
  5. I have visited this informative and honest forum so many times and I thought it is my turn to write to share my experience so far. Currently, my experience of subcision 7 weeks ago is not very positive – at the moment. It seems many people have had good experiences but I do think my old acne scars appear worse and I have some raised nodules. I don’t want to put any one off having treatment as we are all different and things still could work out for me. The main reason I am posting is 2 fold – to let others know of my experience so far and to get some advice from those that can hopefully reassure me or not as I am really upset and very down about what I thought would help my acne scars that have bothered me for so long. So, I had dermapen (fms), subcision and TCA (100%) N Cross seven weeks ago - I have mentioned all the concerns to the renowned dermatology professor who administered the treatment and I have been informed that everything is normal and things will settle in time. However, this is quite difficult to hear and accept when the skin is looking worse and consequently making ne feel self-conscious and awkward in social situations. I have also been advised that if the nodules bother me still if they are present later on then he can inject a solution into them (that solution presumably being a corticosteroid such as Kenalog). Please, can anyone advise me on the following questions as I only have his opinion to go on and I don’t know anyone else who has had any treatments like these. - Will I see an improvement in the scarred areas? - When will the nodules go? - What will help the nodules reduce apart from the steroid injection? With many thanks
  6. Hey everyone, So I have been on the Pill (Gedarel 20 to be precise, it's a fairly new pill and a low dose oestrogen one) for about 8 months now. I started taking it merely because my last pill gave me bad side effects, so my doctor never prescribed per se for my acne. However, miraculously, after the first day of taking it my skin was clearing! A week later I had no new pimples! However, fast forward to about 2 months ago and I started getting papules on my cheeks (just about one a week max), they never bothered me at first but then recently they became frequent - like one a day frequent. And today, I have the first nodule in 8 months. I am a relatively healthy person: I eat healthy, hardly any junk food, I drink 2+ litres of water a day, I take vit E, D and zinc supplements, I exercise every day, and I try not to pick unless they're blackheads. I also don't have PCOS. Do any 'science-y' people know what is going on internally in me?? How can I go from crystal clear to pimpley again despite always taking the pill religiously and never skipping? Even though I am on hormones are my hormones still out of whack? Basically, I am due at the dermatologist in the beginning of July after waiting SINCE AUGUST LAST YEAR (I'm in the UK so it's the NHS). I am scared they will reject me for roaccutane because this pill has clearly improved my skin and if they accept me for it, I am scared I have some hormonal issue which will mess with the effectiveness of roaccutane. Thanks in advance, and here's a photo of the blinder growing on my cheek...
  7. please help, since the young age of 12 I've been suffering from nodular/cystic acne on my chin. These pimples get huge and always form a head. I've changed my diet, only drink water, no dairy, sugar or gluten, I recently started taking omega 3, turmeric, zinc, and vitex! I've taken vitex before and it cleared my acne for 8 weeks and then it came back(I wasn't eating healthy back hen! I've taken birth control and that cleared all my acne except I still got a huge cyst before my period. Lately I've been getting a nodular pimple ever week sometimes twice a week they're so massive... since changing my diet acne has cleared up on my forehead but my cheeks still get blackheads whiteheads and sometimes cyst. growing up my acne was really only on my chin and nose and in highschool it slowly spread to my forehead and then to my cheeks! I also get pimples above my mouth that are huge painful and inflamed. I don't get more than 5 pimples a week but they're all huge inflamed and embrassaing
  8. so i believe I have raised scars I suffer from terrible nodular acne on my acne I'll insert pictures of how massive they can get. Please help I always try to do things holistically!! I believe I suffer from inflammatory acne, I don't get a bunch of break outs but when I do they always get so red and huge. I don't believe it's common.
  9. UGHHH where do I start. So I'm 20 years old and I've had acne since I was 12 years old. Ive never had severe acne but I've always gotten these huge cyst/nodules on my chin, I use to get them on my nose as well but now just my chin. I've never seen anyone else who gets these types of pimples, mine are massive. They've taken a tole on me mentally. I've tried birth control, which cleared my cheek and forehead acne but not my chin acne. I don't want to do anything that isn't a holistic approach. I'm depressed and desperate for help! Any advice is appreciate like supplements or vitamins I should take. I've taken vitex and it worked for 8 weeks clearing ALL my acne but then it returned:/ currently I've been breaking out all over my face, it's worse than it was in high school or middle school! PLEASE HELP!! I drink a lot of water eat healthy and have an organic skincare routine

  11. INVITING YOU TO MY JOURNEY WITH ACCUTANE...I AM 32 YEARS OLD WITH MODEREATE ACNE STARTED OUT WITH SEVERE ACNE AND THROUGH TACKLING WITH ALL THE CREAMS AND 3 STEP SYSTEMS OUT THERE I JUST CANNOT GET RID OF IT. THROUGH NUMEROUS VISITS WITH MY DERMATOLOGIST SHE HAS FINALLY GAVE IN AND PRESCRIBED THE ACCUTANRE FOR ME..YAY!! TRUTH IS TO GET TO THE MODERATE STAGE THAT I AM IN NOW I JUST STOPPED WITH ALL THE CREAMS AND ANTIBOITICS. I WENT STRICTLY CLEANSING MY FACE WITH CETEPHIL DAILY CLEANSER AND MOISTERIZING WITH AVEENO NATURALS AND MY FACE STARTED CLEARING ON ITS OWN, BUT NOT TO THE POINT I WAS SATISFIED AND WAS STILL GETTINNG BREAKOUTS. I GUESS I NEED TO ADD THAT I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH ACNE UNTIL HIS PAST 2 1/2 YEARS I HAD FLAWLWSS SKIN WAS SO PROUD OF. NOT SURE WHAT THE TURN TO WORSE CAME FROM BUT IT IS VERY DEPRESSING AND EMBARASSING. IT'S LIKE EVERYTIME I FEEL I HAD IT UNDER CONTROL SLAP IN THE FACE THE ACNE WAS LAUGHUNG AT ME LIKE " YOU THOUGHT YOU HAD ME UNDER CONTROL SORRY NOT THIS TIME TRY AGAIN..LOL " SO I FAUGHT THIS BATTLE ON MY OWN CAUSE I AM A FIGHTER AND I ALWAYS THINK I CAN TAKE ON MY OWN BATTLES AND CONCUR THEM SO IT WAS ALMOST 2 YEARS BEFORE I SAID ENOUGH IS ENOUGH TIME TO GO SEE A DERM. WHEN I TELL YOU I YOUTUBED UNTIL MY EYES HURT LIKE HELL AND BLOODSHOT RED LOOKING FOR NATURAL REMEMDIES TRYING TONS OF THEM, TO PROACTIVE, OVER THE COUNTER 3 STEP SYSTEMS, CLEAN AND CLEAR, NUETRAGENA, ETC YOU ALL GET THE POINT, THEY WOULD WORK FOR A FEW AND THEN OUT THE BLUE STOP WORKING SO WITH TRYING NUMEROUS THINGS YOU CAN SEE WHY I WAITING SO LONG TO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST, CAUSE I JUST KNEW SOMTHING I DONE WAS GOING TO WORK. OK, SO ENOUGH OF MY LITTLE STORY AND INTO MY JOURNEY. STARTED 01/09/2017 1ST WEEK..... I FELT OK JUST HAD THE WEIRD FEELING MY BODY WAS ADJUSTING TO SOMETHNG NEW. I CAN SAY AT NIGHT I EXPERIENCED SOME BLURRED VISION NOT TO THE POINT THAT IT WOULD PUT MYSELF OR ANOTHER DRIVER IN DANGER. MY COWORKERS WERE ASKING WAS I OK AS I WAS NOT MYSELF THE PAST COUPLE DAYS. I FELT JUST FINE, BUT THEY THOUGHT OTHERWISE. I HONESTLY THINK IT WAS JUST MY BODY GETTING ADJUSTED. ALSO EXTREME COTTON MOUTH, DRINK PLENTY OF WATER 2ND WEEK.... STILL FEELING OK, BELIEVE I HAD GOTTEN A LITTLE MOODY SNAPPING ON MY BOYFRIEND FOR LITTLE THINGS THAT DIDN'T AMOUNT TO THE POINT WERE I NEEDED TO SNAP. I HAD SLIGHT JOINT PAIN. ALL THE EPISODES ONLY LASTED A COUPLE SECONDS AND IT WAS OVER SO NOTHING UNBARABLE. LIPS BECAME CHAP SO I JUST WENT AND PURCHASED SOME BURTS BEES BRAND NATURAL CHAPSTICK. DRY EYES HAD TO GO BUY SOME EYE DROPS. 3RD WEEK UNTIL CURRENT DAY/TODAY.... FEELING GREAT NOT MOODY, NO MORE BLURRED VISION OR JOINT PAIN FOR NOW AND NO MORE COTTON MOUTH .STILL HAVE DRY EYES. IN ADDITION TO MY DRY CHAPPED LIPS MY CHIN AREA IS NOW GETTING DRY. I AM STILL USING THE BURTS BEES FOR MY LIPS AND I USE AVEENO NATURALS CLEAR COMPLEXTION DAILY MOISTURIZER FOR MY FACE AND CHIN. I WASH MY FACE ONLY ONCE A DAY NOW AS I FOUND WASHING 2 TO 3 TIMES DAILY WAS MAKING MY ACNE WORSE. I USE THE CETEPHIL CLEANSER FOR MY FACE AND MOISTURIZE TWICE DAILY. THIS HAS BEEN WORKING GREAT FOR ME. SO FAR SO GOOD.
  12. Hey again everyone. I'm almost at day 16 now and I thought I'd check in. I don't feel as down in the dumps about the initial breakout anymore, since a ton of it has calmed down and cleared [touch wood...it gives me hope]. I have really crappy PIH marks from the cheek breakout and two small nodules remaining [one near the left corner of my mouth from the hormones, a super tiny one on left cheek that was a comedone but got inflamed ... thanks Spiro!] but it is what it is. They won't scar, and they're not bright red. It's a little irritated but I'm leaving them alone. I accidentally gave into stress and picked at a small spot but it's okay, thankfully. Being worried about moving, my screwed up class schedule and my health hasn't helped me with my skin. I hope to see better results day by day. I'm skipping the placebos to normalize my hormones -- it's recommended with a doc's approval for the first 2-3 packs, no matter what pill you're on, since it lets your body get used to the levels of hormones. I hate BP, yet I use it out of anxiety and all it does is make my skin irritated and my breakouts worse...dumb, I know. That's probably why the cheek PIH got so gnarly. I'm convinced BP has always made my PIH worse, which therefore makes my skin look bad even when it isn't. So I threw out the tube today. Good riddance. Oh, and I'm looking for a new sulphur spot treatment if anyone has any recommendations. I've tried cheap drug stores ones and they are just too irritating due to fragrance and whatever.
  13. I don't know what to do. I've tried Accutane with no luck and I can't go on it again because of the brain pressure problems I had whilst on the drug. My acne on my right cheek is interconnected and it has, at the moment, three cysts that join together. I just started an antibiotic and it feels so bruised I can't sleep on my face or dab makeup on it. It hurts so much and is so large I want to cry and hide in the dark. I'm almost twenty, I shouldn't have to waste my youth because of this. I want to go out and be able to explore with makeup and feel beautiful. Have someone kiss my cheek and not have to worry about touching my face. Please help me. I'm so worried it's conglobata because it's the most uncommon. All I have left to try is spironolactone which I went on for a week but it made me break out so I stopped. It's probably not even hormonal so I'm just stuck with it. My left cheek is starting to break out now which hasn't happened in a year. Right cheek. Left cheek.
  14. Is my acne hormonal even if it's only on localised parts of my cheeks and it doesn't really change around the month? I think maybe for like a few days my skin might be nice but generally it's bad, even when my period is going and has ended. I have some extreme cysts/nodules. They can connect together sometimes too. I can feel a sharp pain from them deep in my skin when I'm not even touching them or moving. It pulses and can be as big as one inch long. I never break out on my jaw and rarely on my chin. Just cheeks. Ive taken Accutane and I can't take BC. The only thing I can take is Spiro (I have a prescription) but I can't see a deem or doctor so this is al my own doing. Please help. I've started lymecycline and I'm thinking of doing Spiro next if it's hormonal. Acne is genetic in the family but surely there's got to be a way to fix it? I will literally kill myself if, because it's genetic, I'm stuck like this.
  15. Hey everyone!!I've had moderate acne for the past 4 years and after endless medications and prescriptions I have built up the courage to go on Accutane! I've read so so many threads and logs and so many people have had great results! For the past 3 months this summer my acne took a turn for the worst after I got bronchitis and had to take a lot of medication (i thought antibiotics would help me??). Anyway, I've been even more depressed than usual and I barely leave the house so I don't pigment my scars/acne in the sun and so I don't run into people I know. I knew something was wrong when I got so self conscious that I couldn't even handle grocery shopping. Everyone tells me to cover it up and trust me, I do. But I hate wearing makeup because it doesn't let my skin breathe, it looks fake and it could just break me out more. I hate that I'm not happy with myself and that society pressures me to use makeup, something that should be fun but only makes me feel like I'm hiding. Also, I'm going to college now so there's no question people will see me bare faced in my dorm and I've been neglecting relationships in case they don't like what they see.So, since my persistent moderate acne has literally rejected any response to minocycline, doxycline, tazorac, aczone, tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, clindamicin, etc, and I've had enough with the psychological effects of one new nodule and scar appearing every day, I've decided to take Accutane.I'm starting off with 10mg a month since my acne is moderate and not severe. Also, I want to get a feel of what my side effects are. For those who have taken it or are on this low dosage, what was your experience? Was the low dosage successful or was it too low? What side effects did you experience in this low dosage (10-20mg)? Did anyone experience dizziness or headaches like a pseudo tumour cerebri? Or any intense side effects? Will the lower dosage have less side effects? What products do you recommend? I've heard a lot about CeraVe and Aquaphor. I'm starting college as a freshman just when I start the treatment... Are there any college students out there that took accutane?? If yes, what was your experience? Do you have any tips for handling it in college? Also, I know drinking is bad since one's liver is already dealing with the Accutane but would it be ok if I had just 2 drinks once every 2 weekends? Also, I was hoping to join a club sport but I heard joint pain was an issue for many people. Were you able to work out on Accutane and do sports?Thank you so so much for reading :))) I will be posting on here my progress and keeping a log of any adverse side effects etc.❤️
  16. I'm a 32 year old Asian male who had severe cystic acne in the late teens and early 20's. I developed some large keloid scars (abnormal scars that keep on growing beyond the original wounds) on the chest and shoulders. I took accutane, which worsened my acne initially but cleared me up for a few years and I remained mostly clear until my late 20s and my acne started worsening again. In december 2015, I noticed some of my "jawline cysts" seemed very persistent and have been their for months. I found out from derms that they are actually keloids that formed from adult cystic acne along the jawline. I've received cortisone/5fu injections for them which have flattened them out significantly. I was on doxy on and off from Jan/2016 to may/2016, my face was very clear the first 3 months before gradually worsening. So I decided to take the accutane plunge which caused a bad initial breakout in the jawline/neck area, so I stopped the accutane treatment after 2 weeks in fear of developing more keloids. I've been off of accutane for almost 6 weeks and have been taking Minocyclin twice a day. The cystic breakouts stopped for 2-3 weeks, but started again 3 weeks ago. Now, I'm still getting new jawline cysts daily and they seem to have become more deep seeded and some of them are very painful and itchy. (my acne never itched or stung before stopping doxy and taking accutane) This acne nodule in the middle of the picture was just a tiny blackhead 3 days ago. It started itching like crazy and quickly became an inflamed nodules, and now it's developing 3 seperate heads on top of it. The itching is almost unbearable and wakes me up at night. I've been getting acne like this daily for the last 3 weeks. Like my skin would start itching and become very inflamed and raised. Sometimes the inflamation goes away the next day sometimes it leaves a dormant cyst underneath the skin, and the ones that keep itching develop into nodules like this. I have been getting coritsone injections frequently for these cysts, the cysts tend to shrink rapidly and become skin color shortly after, however I seem get new cysts in the surrounding area a few days alter after the injections. Based on my research it seems that pro-longed antibiotic usage can cause gram negative folluculitis, which is an aggrevated form of acne caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria. This extreme itcheness and pain is not something i experienced prior to taking antibiotics. (I experienced the same trend of acne worsening and becoming itchy after antibiotics during college until accutane fixed it for me) Is there anyway to fix my situation besides accutane? The initial breakout and slowed healing caused by accutane might make me develop more keloids in the jawline area. However, my acne seems to be getting worse despite being on a low carb/non-dairy diet and maintaining 8+ hours of sleep. I've also tried various supplements and topicals. As you can see, while I don't have that many pimples, the ones that I do have tend to be large and deep, there are also amny dormant cysts that are skin colored and don't show up on the photos. My main concern is having the cystic jawline pimples turn into keloids. THe only real "cure" accutane is a double edged sword as it causes initial breakouts and slow healing.
  17. Morning supplements: 1 ashwagandha, 1 tulsi holy basil, 1 magnesium, 1 calcium [which has vitamin D3 in it], 2 spiru-blue, 1 krill oil, 1 COQ10, 1 glutathione, 1 digestive enzyme, and 2 probiotic capsules &1 liver kidney. I don't think I put apple cider vinegar on my face yesterday. I didn't go to work so in the morning I slept in, and spent a few hours in the sun by the pool with my dogs and my cats. At about 6pm I put manuka honey with some colloidal silver on my face with some of my probiotic colloidal silver manuka honey concoction. At about 9:30pm I washed my face with a small amount of tepid water. Then finished with some argan/tamanu oil. Today when I get home I have a few things I have to do. Clean as per usual and prep for my day tomorrow; and WASH BETTY!!! I will have to take before & after photos. It has been months since I washed her. Betty is my 93 Ford Explorer. I gotta wash my hair tonight so it is a little dirty tomorrow and I can do my braids. I have been sipping on spearmint tea and lemon water. When I get home I will make some dandelion root & milk thistle tea. I will clean out the cat litter boxes, wipe my face down with ACV and then put my honey mask on. Evening supplements: 1 ashwagandha, 1 magnesium, 1 calcium [which has vitamin D3 in it], 2 spiru-blue, 1 krill oil, 1 probiotic capsule &1 evening primrose oil.
  18. Hello friends! Im 26 and new to this site. A few days ago I had a sudden breakout of probably ten whiteheads overnight. Today I have over 40, and my face is very bumpy (washing it feels crazy). It's starting to itch and sting a bit, but I try my best not to touch my face. My acne is all over my cheeks, around the mouth and some down on my neck. My forehead and temple are flawless. Before breaking out, I had switched my cleanser from Neutrogena stress free cream to Alba deep pore gel (because I wanted a more "natural" cleanser, both 2% SA). I figured this triggered the breakout so I switched back. I didn't have perfect skin in the first place, but it was not this bad. It doesn't seem like my face is improving, only getting worse. My face is usually shiny (oily) throughout the day, except right after washing (in this case, feels dry and tight) even only from a rinse with water. I was using proactiv and other BP products which I stopped about two years ago because it dried my face like crazy. I've used Doxycycline and retin-A in the past but quit because the side effects were rough. I'm starting to think that salicylic acid is too harsh, too. What's going on with my face? What type of acne is this? Has anyone had a similar experience? Have any advice for me? I'm gonna try washing my face with water only and see if it'll calm my skin. I attached a photo of my cheek below. The other side looksthe same. Thanks!
  19. I am almost 17 and up until I was 16 and a half my skin was immaculate. Amongst my friends, who were going through hormonal breakouts aged 14/15, I was known for clear skin and then aged 16 and a half, as the skin of my friends was all clearing up, I suddenly started to break out but ONLY on my forehead/ temples. My cheeks and chin have never had a single spot but my forehead erupted in so many small bumps. Not only do I have a forehead covered in bumps, some turn into whiteheads. I also get several under skin spots/nodules erupting per week but only on my forehead again. The worst ones always tend to cluster together. I have tried everything to get rid of them; i tried giving up dairy and coffee but saw no difference. i tried a variety of anti acne creams but have stopped. i have gone weeks without makeup with no results. please help I am desperate for answers every single time I look in the mirror I burst into tears ps added info: I have hay fever and oral allergies to fruit of silver birch.
  20. Hi! I just created this log to see how my acne behaves and maybe help other people who have the same doubts about this type of birth control pill. I have moderate acne and I've tried to control it with natural things. I started taking them on April 10, they are called Gynorelle but are almost the same as Belara* and they have 2mg Chlormadidone acetate + 0.02mg Ethynilestradiol. The Chlormadidone Acetate is the antiandrogenic component and there's 24 active pills and 4 placebos. I'll post updates every month. I was told that I need at least 3 complete cycles with the pill to really see how the body reacts to it and if it's working to control the breakouts (they can happen at any time but the most horrible ones happen at the middle of my cycle, when I'm suppose to be ovulating). The side effects have been breast tenderness, maybe some headache (it's hard to tell, I usually have them) and I haven't seen too much improve in my oily skin or acne. But the hopes are high, I've read many lab studies done in Germany that sounded promising. *lower dose than Belara, recommended by my Gyn because my body is kind of sensitive and I have migraines. Also because my acne breakout was produced by stopping birth control with Drospirenone and a consequent hormonal inbalance as far as we know* ----- My Story ---- I'm 26 years old, when I was a teenager never had acne (mix skin, oily T zone, some blackheads), and I started taking birth control pills when I was 19 and used the same ones for over 6 years (Yaz, Yasmin, Jasminiq, Femelle and the last one Yaxibelle. They all have Drospirenone and Ethynil Estradiol). I tried to stop taking those pills when I wasn't in a relationship or just because, but as soon as I stopped my skin started to turn absolutely greasy, so I kept taking them. Last year I had a VHP (papilloma virus) affected tissue in my cervix and because of the treatment and other stuff I stopped taking the pill. During this last year (April 2015 to 2016) my skin has gone though hell: I had acne in my face, neck, shoulders, back and basically all my upper body (even inside my ears). I had papules, nodules, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, oily and shiny skin... And I knew nothing like John Snow. I found this site and it really helped me get my shit together and try some stuff like cleaning my skin, appliying some masks and peelings, taking vitamins, drinking water... The most helpful were: -Vitamins: the Evening Primrose oil and Skin, hair & nails (Healthy America). -Peeling: A mix with the St.Ives Apricot scrub + bicarbonate and/or aspirin. -Tonic: Apple cider vinegar (from a local store, I use 50% vinegar 50% water) -Shampoo: Tio nacho (honey shampoo) and/or Crece Pelo (from Boe cosmetics) to treat the greasy hair. -Inner cleansing: Zarzaparrilla extract Tip: If you make a paste with bicarbonate+water and apply to the pimple or cyst for a night it will improve lots the next day. The most helpful though was the Evening Promise oil, it worked wonders and in December I took it twice a day and had only one cyst. By January I just had some pimples and blackheads, and my neck was clear, it was lovely! But after I finished my last bottle I couldn't find another and ordered one online that I'm still waiting (I live in Colombia, and I don't know why the shipping got so messy). I went to the doctor seeking advice and the best option for birth control, my skin issues and the horrible cramps that the surgery left me (I have the abnormal tissue removed from my uterus) were this pill. I wasn't looking for a hormonal treatment, because I was scared that the same thing happened again if I stop taking them, but that's why my Gyn formulated this specific ones... Anyway, I still take the skin, hair & nails vitamins because they are having a positive effect with my migraines and also I don't get too many cysts. And use the apple cide vinegar every morning in my skin to take away the oil. **I started the log under the Personal Logs Forum, but I will continue here**
  21. Hi Everyone, First of all, many thanks to Alyssa Forever for shedding light on acne skin routines that worked for her, and for bringing me over to this site through her social media profiles. I first started breaking out at the age of 16. I have been struggling with acne since, and I'm about a month away from turning 22. I've made countless visits to different dermatologists. I have used clindamycin, benzoyl peroxide, antibiotic pills, tretnoin, many over the counter products, and nothing has made a tremendous difference. Between 18-20, I suffered with major cystic acne, and got comfortable with getting them injected during regular visits to the dermatologist. For the past year, I've gotten comfortable with DIY Acne control remedies, and over the counter products. Going to the dermatologists regularly for 3.5 years didn't do much for me, and I just started experimenting with what's available. Right now, I don't breakout as often as I used to. Granted, I'm away from home in New York City, and where I am now -- Vermont, is relatively cleaner. However, when I go home, I do breakout more. I have scars, and I don't get cystic acne as much anymore. My skincare routine is as follows: Neutrogena Ultra Sensitive Wash Twice a day + I Moisturize twice using the "Estée Lauder Oil Controling Gel Am/Pm." I use "Aztec Clay + apple cider vinegar + water" mixture as a mask every so often. Sometimes, when I breakout, I use a benozyl peroxide wash every other day on the affected areas. Furthermore, I suffer from eczema, and have sensitive skin. I can't tolerate products that dry you out. i would appreciate it if someone could give me advice on what kinds of products I should be using, and/or direct me to a consultancy forum. Thank you for taking the time out to read this, a rather lengthy post. PS the pics don't accurately depict how badly I breakout.
  22. Okay well, I've been on Accutane (Roaccutane for me cause I'm in Ireland) for 18 days now and I decided to make a log for people who are considering going on the drug or that are on the drug and what to get tips or info that I can give! So anyways, I'm a 19 year old male and I've had oily skin and acne since I was like 13/14. I got really bad acne including nodules and really oily skin, so oily people would comment on it sometimes! I tried many oral and topical treatments to try get rid of my acne including differin, dalacin and tetryasil (I don't think I spelt that right ). The only thing that did any good was the differin and dalacin topical treatments which i applied twice daily but they didn't help the oily skin! I had reeeaaally bad ice pick scarring on my temples and cheeks which have kind of faded since but are still pretty red. My acne continued to get a bit better and from the age of 18 it wasn't too bad (compared to how it was before) but was still annoying and all i could ever think about. it really destroyed my confidence and it holds me back from being more social and happy! Anyways, a few months ago I went to my doctor, totally fed up with dealing with acne, and asked him to refer me to a dermatologist to see my options because i decided that this was the year i would get rid of my acne cause i don't want to be waking up 5 years from now and still going to the mirror and applying these topical treatments and hating how i look! The dermo said that (ro)accutane was a good option for me cause i pretty much tried everything else. As for how you get your hands on accutane, i don't know if it's harder to get it in the US than it is to get it in Ireland but i basically had to do a blood test before getting the prescription which i got a few days after my bloods came back. i have to go for monthly blood tests and visit my dermo each month after the blood test. So, basically I began Accutane 18 days ago and I started with a dose of 30mg per day. My dermo said i'd probably be going up to 60mg a day after the 1st or 2nd month, depending on how I'm doing etc. My treatment is for 6 months! (btw, i also have some acne on my chest and back) As everyone pretty much knows, there's a lot of side affects when taking Accutane. So far, I've only encountered dry/flaky skin around my nose and lips and chin and dry lips. I use Clean and Clear oil free moisturiser for the dry skin, which i could apply constantly cause the dry skin is pretty much impossible to get rid of and regular lip balm for the dry lips which i carry around with me everywhere because my lips just get so dry. I also take vitamin E and C supplements every morning to help my scars heal. Okay so what have i noticed so far? Well, apart from my skin becoming waaaaayyyyy less oily (yay!) and the side effects (dry skin and lips) my skin has improved a bit already. Considering that I'm using moisturiser and not using my topical prescription treatments thats really good! I still get breakouts but they seem to go in a day or two except for some red spots which hopefully will go away soon! I also notice that in the morning one of my nostrils might have some blood in them, i think nose bleeds are a common enough side effect of Accutane so I'm not worried about that! I still have blackheads but my scars have healed a bit and redness has gone down a bit too! Skin care routine on Accutane: Okay so basically all i do to my face since i started accutane is apply moisturiser multiple times throughout the day. i try and shave every two days to exfoliate the skin (it seems to be driest around areas i shave) and i wash my face afterwards. i don't really wash my face that much at the moment cause i find it makes my skin more drier. I was also recommended to use sun screen when going outside and to be honest i haven't used it since starting treatment (cause it makes my skin dryer and i might be too lazy ) Diet: Okay so i try to be as healthy as possible anyway but since i started Accutane I've started increasing my intake of Vitamin E along with taking a vitamin E tab every morning because it is good for healing scarring and caring for your skin. I have a smoothie with spinach or kale and a mixture of fruit (banana, strawberries, blueberries etc) with almond milk every morning to try and increase my intake of vit E and healthy food. Anyways, I'm gonna try and post updates every few days/weekly and if you guys want to ask me questions please feel free to do so Since i've only been on Accutane for 18 days and have already noticed positive changes to my acne and scarring I'm hoping that this treatment will be the final treatment i ever have to take for god damn acne!! Okay so this is my first Accutane log ill post an update in a few days and answer any questions or comments you guys have!
  23. Fighting Stubborn Pustular / Cystic Acne

Hi all, So for the past year or so I've been getting this stubborn pustular acne that doesn't respond to Benzoyl Peroxide very well. Ever since I started getting it, I've been applying Dan's BP generously at night, but so far I have never really succeeded at being 100% clear. The acne is extremely painful / tender, and rapidly develops into a pus-filled head. The head either dries up, or bursts (oftentimes I've been squeezing these pimples myself, because it's unprofessional to walk around with pus oozing from my face). However, when these pimples burst, they spout a lot of blood, and leave a crater-like wound - which isn't fun either. Also, if I don't squeeze really hard and get the hard "core" of the pimple out, they tend to re-form. The really bad ones tend to form around the mouth / beard region (where the hair follicles are). When they appear, I nuke them with BP. This doesn't make them get any smaller - if anything, it just makes them bigger - but it helps peel the skin and make the pimples surface faster. Because of this, I feel like the bacteria involved is not p.acnes, but something else. The one thing that seemed to help me, back in September, was dicloxacillin. It had been prescribed to me by a nurse practitioner, since I didn't have insurance at the time and had to go to a RediClinic. I was only on it for a week, but it basically stopped all my breakouts in their tracks. Shortly after the week ended, I began breaking out again. Around that time I also started using antibacterial soap (triclosan) to wash, and have been using it - without avail - until recently. Recently (last Wednesday), I picked up some Hibiclens and have been using that to wash morning and night instead of the antibacterial soap. I lather it into my skin, leave it on for a while (until it dries basically), and then wash it off. After that, I apply moisturizer (if it's morning) or Dan's BP (if it's nighttime). So far, there hasn't been a crazy amount of change. I thought I was headed in a good direction up until today, since my existing pimples had continued to dry up and I hadn't gotten any terrible new breakouts. Today, however, an older one that I thought had disappeared suddenly because re-inflamed and painful. Also, I've had a crop of new, painful ones appear to the right of my beard. I'll continue with the Hibiclens but I'm really getting tired of this. As soon as my new insurance information comes, I'm going to schedule an appointment with a GP and try to get a culture test or something. These things are really unsightly and unprofessional.
  24. Hi guys, im 19, and just run out of the Clinique anti blemish cleanser, which did nothing for my skin alert from drying it out. So I'd like some advice on the best regimen for my skin - maybe what works well for you? My acne is hormonal, with nodules and cysts, leaving PIH, and red marks (some cysts/ marks are still visible after over 6 months!) been looking into cetaphil cleanser, and tea tree based products from the body shop. Unfortunately the Acne.org regimen isn't a choice as I live in UK and shipping is ridiculous. I've added some pics below. All help is much appreciated thank you! x
  25. Hi, so I just made this and I'm not entirely sure I'm using it right but here goes nothing. So I'm twenty years old and recently started suffering from moderate to severe acne. I never had acne (very rarely an occasional zit) until about a year ago. What started off as what I though was just a break out during that time of the month has become a nightmare I can't get rid of. All of my acne is located on my cheeks and chin, most of it is blind and located under the skin. I also get the same type of bumps or "acne" behind my ears and near my armpits although these bumps don't tend to become red or discolored they feel the exact same as what's occurring on my face. Very hard not painful large pockets of something under the skin. I'm not sure what it is or why I can't get rid of it but I do not have insurance and can't afford a dermatologist so any advice will be helpful. Very rarely do these bumps come to any type of head yet they are NOT sensitive or painful. Anytime a new bump appears my skin becomes very discolored and the discoloration remains after the bump is gone. It looks and feels like I have a rash covering the entire bottom half of my face at times. I've looked into cystic acne and nodulistic acne but I'm not sure what category what I have falls under (if any from what I read both are very painful which mine is not) nor do I know what is causing the sudden skin condition to occur in the first place. Before having this problem I washed my face with only water and for years had absolutely no issues. I began to use X out about a year ago to clear an outbreak and the acne has been consistent ever since. I also use a oil free moisturizer and oil controlling toner. Within this year I've upped my excersize, cut out almost everything this isn't organic, quit smoking, started washing my pillow cases every 3 days religiously, and have made it a point to make sure I'm always hydrated. I've even gone without make for extended periods of time in hopes of improvement. I see no end to whatever is going on with my face and it's more than fustrating it's humiliating. It's greatly affecting my social life schooling and work but absolutely nothing seems to bring improvement. I no longer use X out after 7 weeks of use with no improvement and a worse condition I had to begin with I switched products and waited the same amount of time maybe longer with which each product I've tried. Currently I'm back to using proactive though again I'm going with no improvement. I will attach photos of my condition though u can not see most of the lumps under my skin that I can feel you can see the scaring they have caused along with the scabbing that occurs on the rare occasion I have zits on the surface of my skin. Although it looks painful it's more uncomfortable. The bumps are very hard and itchy when touched rather than sensitive. If anyone has any advice on what could be going on or anything I can do to improve my condition I would more than appreciate it. Also, what I'm describing does sound a lot like hormonal acne but my periods are very regular for the most part and the acne is present throughout the entire month never really improving or worsening so I'm not sure if it's possible to have imbalanced hormones with a normal menstral cycle or if I should be looking for any other symptoms. Honestly I'm rambling and this post is probably way to long for anyone to reply to but I'm desperate for any kind of help advice or guidance. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read.
