  1. Hi! Ok so a background on my skin / experience with acne. I developed acne around the age of 15, every year come September it would pop up on my chin and around my eyebrows. Then in march it would go again and I would be pretty much clear. I've taken antibiotics (which worked 1st time around) but they are a short term fix. And I used to use DUAC. (My strong advice would be if you have naturally dry skin STOP with the DUAC!!) Anyway come august 2016 I had had enough and was reccomended diane by a friend of mine. So I got a prescription didn't read anything about it and started taking it. It fixed my skin. Took 3 months and even then it wasn't perfect but my acne had always been somewhat mild anyway. It just made everything easier, putting on makeup was more pleasant and I didn't feel ashamed of myself without it. So from month 4-6 I would say I had some break outs but rare they weren't acne they were like "normal" people's skin. I also think a lot of them were stress related and probably due to my skin care routine. At the time I was using murad to take of my make up and I would NOT reccomend this. I used it for over a year but as soon as I cut it out I realised that it really is paint stripper. I now use deemalogica medibac clearing wash. MUCH BETTER. Any way blah blah blah I was on dianette all going well and then I got too fussy and decided I didn't want ANY spots at all so I Came off it after 10 months. Please people never do this - if I had just googled it I would have seen it was the worst decision I could make but there you go. So for the next 2 months my skin was the best it has ever been and then the acne came back. So here's where it all goes wrong. I start taking dianete again and my skin of course FLARES. Now the problem for me mentaly was that unlike the first time I had now been used to clear skin and had forgotten how to mentally handle acne. It broke me completely. I picked at it I let it get dry I just did everything wrong. And that went on formonths. In month 4 I got a hold of my self. I stopped using shitty face masks and just stripped everything down. I use Clinique moisture surge and germolene on my skin with the wash I mentioned. THAT IS IT. And I think the combination of being on the pill for 4 months and healing my skin has given me results. Im currently on the 2nd day of the break in month 4 and have 2 pimples (not cysts!) so a recap on this month. week one - skin was good i had lots of marks left from spots but it was smooth and I didn't develop any cysts. Week two - now my acne knowledge in terms of terminology isn't great. But I developed I guess small cysts along my jaw line - flesh coloured. I also had one or two spots on my forehead. I got really down this week thinking it would never improve. Week three - skin was good again, developed one or two spots but mainly there's were ones that had been lingering for a while and needed to come out. And like I said I'm now on week four so let's see what it brings. I'm still extreemly fragile about my skin and any spots can make me anxious or upset but (and this won't work for some people) I have a log and photos of each day from month 3 and I look back on it to see just how shitty it was then compared to now and it brings me right back up. I recently deleted the photos because I wanted to leave it behind me but the log helps. This website helped me so much and I just want to talk to anyone else going through this so we can compare and help each other. Side note- i drink about 1l water a day i take vitamin d i wear bare minerals concealer i cut dairy out to begin with all love xxx
  2. How I cured my acne

Forums Prescription acne medications 2 replies

I felt that I needed to share my story as a year ago it was me searching acne.org looking for a possible cure, feeling my lowest self esteem I have ever felt, feeling like everyone can see my acne even though I wear make up and feeling like my boyfriend cannot fancy me looking like this. I was willing to give anything ago now as my usual benzoyl peroxide was not working anymore, I went to my doctor who prescribed me epiduo (0.1% adapalene/benzoyl peroxide 2.5%) and started me on the contraceptive pill Diane, I chose Brenda the generic as it was a third of the price. I was sceptical about whether this would work for me as I had previously tried Yasmin in the past. I made a promise to myself that I would stick with the regime for 6 months at least no matter how much I wanted I quit and believe me I did! So in the first few weeks to a month of putting a pea sized amount of epiduo on a clean face every night my skin became very tender, dry, red and chapped I had been using cetaphil derma control moisturiser which made a stinging sensation and did not keep my skin moisturised, I later switched to neutrogina water gel and this stuff is amazing. During the first few weeks I went through the dreaded purging stage, I felt like giving up but I am so glad I stuck with it, in 6 months it was a vast improvement and a year later I have clear skin with the odd pimple now and again. To get my skin super clear and soft I do a turmeric honey and yoghurt home made face mask twice a week, apple cider vinegar mixed with water as a cleanser and neautrogena naturals skin cleanser to wash my face morning and night. I hope this helps someone! I know what it feels like for acne to make you feel worthless but there is something out there that work for you! If you have any questions about my regime please ask below
  3. diane 35 diary beginning

Hello, I am a 17 yo girl who fights acne. i began to had acne when I was 15. i have mild acne, especially on the T zone and apple cheeks. Sometimes my face looking ok but sometimes I have few cyst or undergrowth red bumps(hate them!!) and it affects my mood a lot and I don't wanna go out (although I am a very social person) this is ruining my life!!! Body skin is clear, sometimes 1-3 pimples on the chest. Because I have tried so many things and my acne usually flare up before and during the period, i decided to take diane 35 to remove this acne completely(in my country you can take it for a very long time if your under the risk group). Treatments I have used in the past: Benzamycin Topical Gal: helped curing pimples fast, still got breakout and didnt work for the long term. Exposed skin care kit: Had high hopes about that. stopped after 2 months because their was no improvement.( although the products are very gentle and their acne treatment serum heals pimples fast). Differin and Clindsmycim: differin cream in the night and clindamycin gel in the morning. been using it for 13 weeks. differin helped a lot in fading red marks, helped with bumps but still breakout(I am going to continue with that while diane 35 BC pills). Started taken diane 35 11 days ago, I am gonna update almost every day how is my skin. please share your acne stories with dianeette and when u stated seeing improvements. SKIN UPDATE- Day 11: Chin- clearing up, 2 whiteheads and red marks. Apple cheeks- A little flare up. huge bunch of red bumps in the same place and healing pimples. on the other cheek 2 whiteheads and few red bumps. Forehead- tiny red bumps. (My mane problem is the apple cheeks as you see. want to get reed of the acne there.)
  4. I was on roaccutane until October which completely cleared my back acne + facial acne wonderfully. I had clear porcelain skin. At the beginning of February I noticed I started getting a few pimples on my back again (as well as a couple of minuscule ones on my chin when it was nearing my period). My main concern was that my back acne might escalate if I didn't do something about it so I went to the doctor and was prescribed dianette (or co-cyprindiol as it is called in the UK). It's week 5 and my face now has acne. My back has also got worse. For the last 3 weeks new pimples have emerged on my face everyday (despite using differin). I am back to actually having acne on my face where before I did not at all. I currently have 21 pimples on my face. Since taking it I have developed oily skin (something I've never experienced in my life) and I now have textural issues (skin which is bumpy in places, not smooth but are not spots). All in all my skin is a mess. I'm also experiencing the side effects; feeling nauseous every night, and feeling very low, on edge and constantly sad and unhappy about the state of my skin - I think these feelings are exemplified by the pill. My appetite has also increased. I know people report that you must wait 3 months before seeing results but I don't think I can continue feeling this low and unhappy about my skin for it to potentially not get better after 3 months (as others report). My questions are: Do you think I had balanced hormones before and have unnecessarily messed them up by taking this pill? (dianette is supposed to be an anti-androgen and thus reduce the hormones that produce acne so I would have thought that, if anything, it would still be beneficial) If I stop taking this pill will my hormones return to how they previously were, in turn returning my skin to how it was? Any advice about what I should do would be welcomed.

  6. Hi everyone, I am new here and had learnt a lot from you guys. I'm now 28 (female) and I have been had acne since 16 and broke out like crazy around 20. My doctor put me on accutane for 8 months, 20mg a day and my skin was all clear and keep clear for 6 years without even one pimple on my face!!!! After I move to Melbourne in 2014, my acne came back!!! But this time is different, they are mainly on my chin and jawline, and forehead. I went to the derma and he prescribed me Diane 35. I have heart a lot of cases that your skin will be good when you are on the pill and become crazy if you come off the pill. Since I have experienced how amazing accutane is, I would like to be put on accutane. But my derma says my acne are mainly hormone related and ask me to try Diane first. But I don't want to waste time, if eventually i have to take accutane after come of the pill, why don't I take it now? Any suggestions or experiences to share guys? Thank you so much!!!
  7. Hormonal Acne? Help?

    Forums Hormonal acne 5 replies

A week before my period my face COMPLETELY changes. It looks oily, discoloured, inflamed, bumpy and acne prone. I had a hormone test before my period which showed high androgens but then after I took the test again it was okay, so basically my androgens are high before my periods. I don't want to take the pill for many health concern reasons and I had really bad side effects when I tried. Diet never seems to help me. What do I do? My doctor suggested some type of minocycline or something. I asked for Spiro but he said no. Any other suggestions? Accutane didnt really work for me and gave me the worst nodules of my life so not doing that again...

Week 2: Been taking Diane 35 and Spiro for more than a month now. The good news is that there have been NO new breakouts for over a week now. The bad news is that the old cysts from the initial breakout are taking FOREVER to heal. There are currently twin huge pimples right between my eyebrows, they used to be a trio but the other one dried up and I was able to drain it. In addition to that, the cyst in the corner of my mouth (the largest cyst I've had to date, by the way) is still lumpy under the skin. I'm really afraid it might be coming back. After it was drained, I did follow the dermatologist's instructions to keep putting ichtammol on it. I only stopped when nothing was draining out of the wound anymore. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but even though I only haves 3 zits right now, they are deep and cystic. And don't respond to any topical medication it seems. I'm still taking 300 mg of Doxycycline because I read many people clear up while on antibiotics. Last week, I got a pretty bad zit on my cheek, and over the weekend, it actually drained. Which is amazing for me since I never have a zit dry up and disappear that fast. Could it be because of the antibiotics? I don't know but I'm hoping it can happen for the two disgusting zits between my eyebrows.

Blogs Diane 35 and Spiro Journey

Hello to whoever is reading this blog! I started taking Diane 35 and Spiro both on the same day over a month ago. Since then, I have been spending a lot of time here posting my concerns as well as reading about other people's experiences. Since I was posting almost every week, I figured I should just start my own blog so I can track my progress as well. Since I don't wanna retype everything I've written in my posts, I will just copy-paste most of them In order. ) About me: - I am 30 years old, female and prone to cystic acne. Since taking Accutane 10 years ago I would only get a cyst or two every few months. - I was on Althea birth control for the last 4 years which couod be the reason why I stayed clear, instead of the Accutane. - I stopped the BC pills several months ago which probably messed us my hormones because I am now getting new deep cysts more frequently - I am now back on BC and trying Spiro for the first time. Got both over the counter since they don't need prescription where I live. WEEK 2: 1. Spiro is a diuretic so I've definitely been going to the bathroom more. As a result, I get thirsty more often as well so I'm definitely making sure that I drink more water on a regular basis. 2. I'm not sure if it's the BC pills or the Spiro but my appetite has increased as well! I haven't noticed any gain weight or anything, but I get serious hunger pangs around mealtimes. 3. The TWO pre-Sprio cysts on my chin have improved, but mostly because I got them injected at the derm's. The other one is completely flat but left a dark mark. The deeper one though is still a small lump under my skin. It's invisible when I cover i with a concealer, but when I wash my face, I can definitely still feel it there. I'm not sure if it's in the healing process or if it needs another cortisone shot. 4. I think I'm experiencing the initial breakout right now but it's really not as bad as I was afraid of. I have one regular pimple between my eyebrows and another one right IN THE MIDDLE of my right eyebrow. Sweet, huh? They're barely obvious and don't really bother me, except that they're at the painful stage. But I'll take 2 regular small pimples over a cyst any day! 5. I also had a couple of whiteheads grow on my chin. One is still there but the other one cleared out. Nothing to worry about in my opinion. They are literally just whiteheads that go away after several days. 6. After a week on Spiro and Diane, one thing I definitely noticed is that my face is MUCH LESS OILY. I know because I use those oil blotting sheets throughout the day. Before I can use two whole sheets after 3-4 hours because my skin was so oily. But now I only need ONE sheet to blot all the oil after the same number of hours--and I don't even use the whole sheet. WEEK 3: So, update on Day 17 of my Spiro journey. Unfortunately, I had a couple of zits appear over the weekend. Two small ones on the corner of my mouth just on my lower cheek, which I found weird since I never break out in that spot. Not too bothersome since they are really small and can easily be covered (thank goodness for BB cream!). But when I touch them they feel like a mosquito bite since it's a bit swollen under the skin. Other than that, the only issue is that pre-spiro deep cyst that I mentioned earlier. It definitely got small after the cortisone shot but it's still there. Arrrg! WEEK 4: Day 32 of my Diane 35 and Spiro journey: Well, I think I spoke too soon about my initial breakout being minor. Since my last entry, things have taken a turn for the worse. ( The two small pimples on the corner of my mouth grew into full-blown cysts! One was so big that it looked like the surface of a marble under my skin, like I just had a tooth taken out or something. It was swollen and PAINFUL as all hell. Aside from that, I had another big pimple show up between my eyebrows. I went to see a new dermatologist to have them injected with cortisone. Interestingly, he said he doesn't give cortisone injections. He's a German doctor who believes that cortisone shots offer temporary relief but can actually damage your skin in the long run. He said what he can do for me was drain the cysts and then put me on antibiotics. And so I spent Valentine's Day having my cysts extracted with laser. Even the derm was surprised at how much pus was inside the cysts. Sorry, gross I know! He drained 3 in total, and told me I have to put ichthammol ointment on them for at least 3 whole days. I literally spent 3 days going to work with a bandage on my lower cheek. The one between my eyebrows completely flattened, BUT spawned 2 smaller pimples that are just NOT coming to a head. I am putting ichthammol on them every night as well, but so far, they wouldn't budge. This is so frustrating. 2 days ago I went back to the derm but he just told me to put freaking benzoyl peroxide on it. Maybe he felt like they weren't serious enough to drain (unlike the first huge ones). So right now I am on Diane 35, 100 mg of Spiro and 300mg doxycycline a day (derm doesn't know I am taking spiro). But I am yet to see results from all my pill-popping. Sorry for venting on here.
  10. Hi guys, I just started taking Spiro this week at 100 mg a day along with Diane 35. I have read that they prevent new cysts from forming but I was also wondering if they heal existing ones faster?? I currently have 2 deep cysts on my chin which led me to believe that my acne is hormonal. Thankfully, I haven't experienced the dreaded initial breakout (or not yet, knock on wood). But these 2 cysts that I have show no signs of disappearing for more than 2 weeks now. They are like ugly red bumps with no head. Would appreciate advice from fellow acne sufferers who have tried the same meds on me. Thanks! By the way, about me: - I am 30 years old, female and prone to cystic acne. 11. Coming Off Dianette

    Forums Hormonal acne 10 replies

Hey there, Been on Dianette for 6 months now. Only in the past month or two has it really cleared my skin, so i'm really happy with it. However, after my Doctors appointment yesterday he said i must come off the pill after the next 3 month package, taking me to 9 months. However this is just before my holidays so i'd really like to stay on it just another 2 months to take me to 11 months? Is this too long? Has anyone been on Dianette for ages? Before Dianette I was on Yasmin, which I had clear skin on for around a year. After a year or 18 months (can't remember exactly) my acne just got AWFUL. Was very random. So the docs and myself are thinking of switching back to the Yasmin. Has anyone come off Dianette successfully? Has anyone gone from Dianette to another pill and which one, or particularly on to Yasmin? Any suggestions at all for me in coming of Dianette successfully or anything relevant Any replies would be so greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so much
  12. Dianette For Acne

Forums Prescription acne medications 6 replies

Hello guys! Really hoping for some help on here of someone whos used Dianette for acne treatment Firstly, heres a little background story. Started to get mild acne when I was 16, so went straight to the docs and put on Yasmin. Worked amazingly for 2/3 years up till I was about 19 and had good skin throughout. However, at 19, my skin absolutely exploded with sore, scar causing acne. I was so confused as I was still taking my Yasmin religiously however the docs informed me that your hormones do go through a change at this age and the hormones in Yasmin were no longer good for my skin. Doc straight away wanted to switch me over to Dianette- but I resisted for a while due to horror stories online (silly I know). I went through Lymecycline, Zineryt lotion, Differin, and all that stuff without any different. The Zineryt calmed my hormonal acne for a while but the dry skin and redness seemed to be just as bad. It's been 5 months in total now with the horrible acne and i'm finding it very difficult to be patient! It's taken over my whole summer, i haven't left the house a whole lot due to being so self concious. I went to see a private dermatologist a few months ago and between myself, the derm and the docs we all decided Dianette would be the best option to get me back to normal. I'm about to finish my second month on Dianette, and have had some definite improvement. However, my forehead is now breaking out which is usually my clear area?! I had a week after my last week break where my skin was behaving beautifully- I was able to go out the house and do stuff but it soon exploded again a few days after. I found it so upsetting and disappointing! Nevertheless, i'm basically just looking for a bit of encouragement with the Dianette from someone who's used the pill successfully. Friends and family are very supportive however it's not quite the same when they haven't been through it! I'm hoping for great results because Yasmin worked really well for me at first. I've seen a lot online that month 3 is when things really start to settle down so i'm trying to be optimistic thank you!
  13. Spiro & Diane Combo

    Forums Hormonal acne 6 replies

Hi all, I'm brand new here! I've browsed the forum for quite a while now and you all just such a good support group, I wanted to join in! Every time I google something acne related, I end up here. Spiro & Diane 35 combo - Who's tried it? Good/Bad. How long did it take for you to see results? Was there an initial breakout? I've been on it for about 2 weeks now. I have no results - I can't really tell if its getting worse or staying the same. I started taking photos of myself every morning, so I'll hopefully be able to tell from that in a week or two. I wanted to share my history with you all in case anyone else has had similar experiences... Acne since 13, went on Accutane at 16, it worked (very temporarily), Diane 35 and minocycline (and then later just Diane) at 17, it worked AMAZINGLY for a good 4 years. Between ages 23 and 26 I went on and off Diane quite a few times. Every Spring my skin looked amazing, I thought my problems were over FOREVER (My skin has finally matured! I can just drop everything and go au-natural) and then come November it's back with a vengeance. This year is the first year that it really came back bad. In the past month it has completely destroyed all the work of every little peel, and microderm and facial I have had. I am gutted. I don't even know how it can look this bad. I am not used to having it like this, I feel almost detached from it. Like, I forget I have it until I look in the mirror or touch my face and it hurts. I'm embarrassed to go out but I feel like hiding is more suspicious, so I just bear it. I hate putting on so much makeup, I'm a lipstick and mascara kinda girl. It's textbook hormonal acne. My chin (not the center of my chin oddly enough, just the sides), along my jawline and it's creeping up my lower cheeks. I don't have it anywhere else on my face or body. My forehead is completely clear. I did some research and I think I have PCOS. The description of the hormonal effects of PCOS sound exactly like what I got. I am seeing my derm next Friday and hope to get tested. I am also doing the Dermaceutic Mask Peel through my derms office. Has anyone here had any experience with that product line? That's all for now! I'll keep you all posted on my progress Marissa
