  1. Hello everyone, I really want some opinions, because dermatologists don't seem to know what my skin problem is. They say it is my skin texture. Or they prescribe some stuff that should burn the upper layer of my skin which doesn't help either. My skin is so ugly, i have never seen ugly skin as mine. Especially when the light catches my face from left and right and under fluorescent lighting. The tiny bumps become very visible and my t-zone looks dead and red. I have no clue what those bumps are. What my skincondition is. It doesn't look like acne. I got them from an allergic reaction of a cleanser 12 years ago, they never went away. After that a dove soap made my face (T-zone) turn red, it never recovered from that. My skin looks from close up like that of a burned skin. The right and left side of my skin are clear and smooth. Also around my mouth. But my T-zone is horrible. What can i do about this? Cut some food? Maybe some trigger redness. So on the first picture you see me as i would look like from the distance. The second and the third picture is me from the side, where I look like a normal human with normal skin. The other pictures are all from the front (close-up), where the light catches my skin. You can see how bad it is. It looks raw, red, weird, oily, dry and bumpy. Even burned skin look way smoother. The zillions tiny bumps never go away. I would like smoother skin. It makes me incredible insecure. It looks like i am not hygienic. Several years ago I've tried many things (clarins, dior cleansers, drugstore cleansers, microdermabrasion, exfoliate). Didn't work, seem to make it worse. Now i only use cbd oil to clean and moisturize. I don't use make-up on my face either. It doesn't heal my skin either. Who has the golden tip?
  2. Hello I am 29 and about 2 years ago started getting LARGE red bumps that started to look like whiteheads but when I went to pop them they wouldn't pop and just got larger and redder. I got some antibiotics from a friend (no health insurance) and after a couple weeks they started clearing up. Cleared up for a few months and came back again. Rinse and repeat and now they are back again. I've taken some photos of an unpopped one and some zits in a group I've popped. Can anyone help me with these or is a doctor my know hope? Thank you a ton in advanced.
  3. Those of us revisiting this thread once again for answers, for a product that works, for another human to relate, we all have one thing in common. We suffer daily, or once monthly, or for the lucky ones once a year. Regardless of the frequency or intensity of your breakouts we all know how painful and embarrassing this condition can be. The thing is when you make the choice to go out the door in the morning and face the day, you have just made a very important choice whether you realize it or not. You have just taken a brave action. If you can go out in the world, push through the pain and ignore the anxiety associated with being seen full breakout, you can conquer ANYTHING! I want all acne suffers out here to realize that we are all cut from the same cloth and we wouldn't be dealt the shit-skin hand if we all weren't strong enough to fight our way through it. Please consider this the next time you feel like saying no to going out with friends or going out to lunch with your family on the weekend. Remember the badge of courage you wear on your face and that those that matter most to you don't mind and wouldn't have you any other way. Look I started this a week ago and I will not give up. I hope you feel inspired, Love and Peace abides!
  4. Hello there. Currently i’m 15 years of age. I’ve had acne since probably age 12. I’ve used many over the counter products such at BP and minocycline and all this other stuff. When i first got on BP (benzoyl peroxide) I just slathered that stuff on my face. For the past 2 years my skin has been pretty darn red, dry, super sun sensitive, and irritated. To me it looks super bad and it’s kind of depressing. I kept using BP cuz if i stopped then my face would breakout. I do not have cystic acne or bad acne. Just bumps all over that’s been persistent. A week and a half ago i got put on accutane because i told my dermatologist i could not do topicals anymore cuz they are destroying my face. So far i’m on day 10 on accutane with 40mg a day. Now let me also say just my cheeks, nose, and chin are red. i wear a hat every single day. Therefor my forehead isn’t red. I also wear sunscreen, and for the past months and have not been in the sun much at all. i also moisturize like no other and have tried aloe vera and other masks and havent seen really any improvement:/ i asked my derm if have rosacea and he said its not common for someone of my age and he could diagnose me just for facial redness cuz there’s no way of proving it or whatever. not gonna get into that. Oh and also i went skiing 2 weeks ago and holy crap i was a tomato. even tho i moistirized and wore a mask the whole time, it made me soooo red. My few questions are as follows: will accutane make my face more red? after accutane do you think my skin will heal? are there any products you suggest after what i’ve said? will skin become less red or more red on accutane? please please please help!! open to any suggestions thanks in advance! UPDATE: So and accutane has definitely helped with my acne. the second photo is like 5 moths after first photo and i’m finishing my last month of accutane right now. Redness is still there and im jus prayin that it will go away after accutane. Pls comment on this post. Is my redness that bad right now? I’m super insecure about it. Is there anything you suggest to help redness? Will it go away after accutane you think?
  5. Hi gang! My background: Lurker for close to 10 years, almost as long as I have had acne. I am a mid-20s college student raising a sibling. In other words, I have no time. I want to look presentable, though. This is why clearing my skin naturally is so important to me. I also don't wear makeup.. so it's magnifies the issue. I'm a hard INTJ, if you dig MBTI. That means I'm typically anxious and tense, which I'm sure is a big part of my acne. BCP (Yasmin) cleared my skin in my teens. Went off of it because of some of the possible side effects, then went on Spiro, which worked perfectly. However, I want to heal my body. I don't want to be on medication forever. Both my parents have adult acne, so I could be looking at hard cysts on my face with other inflamed red rolling hills until I hit menopause. I was going to do Accutane, but stopped when I realized I would have to go back on Yasmin (i.e. my skin would be perfect on yasmin so I doubt the accutane would cure me.) I am using the Neutrogena light therapy mask right now. It is helping but I doubt it will help as much as I need. I eat a diet of chicken, vegetables, and glucomannan/oat fiber (non-soluble fibers that fill you up and pass right through.) I have always had chronic constipation, so I take Miralax. When I don't take it, the inflammation gets worse. I have noticed that if I eat a ton of vegetables, my skin can get inflamed. This worries me. When I don't eat, or eat tiny portions to keep myself from starving, acne is reduced. But how can I sustain that? It doesn't seem possible. I know tanning and sweating/working out have helped in the past, but on this diet I have no energy to work out. I am scared of how hungry it would make me. No, not anorexic. I'm 5'6 and ~140. If you have read this far, my heartfelt thanks. I am so grateful for this community. Acne is such a difficult disease to deal with in the modern world-the shame, I mean. MY QUESTION: Is there anything else I can do for my acne naturally? Should I just suck it up and go back on Spiro?
  6. Very unusual lesion

Greetings! I only just found this site about an hour ago and I'm not yet terribly familiar with it. I ask in advance for patience if I have chosen the wrong topic or if I make formatting errors. I'm pretty nervous by my discovery on my face. Recently ive had some prettt severe seasonal allergy problems that have been causing severe itchy and watery eyes, nose, and skin on my face. As a result, my skin has been terribly dry and combined with the scratching I'm obviously guilty of during the night I'm breaking out some. This alone is nothing unusual. I have a few pimplesat least 4-5 days a month. There was a zit on my chin yesterday and it was without a head but very red and painful. Normally these get left alone and will disappear in few days. Late last night I noticed that the previously rounded shape had begun to elongate down toward my neck. As the last 24 hours have passed it's gotten even longer and is still narrow. I can feel the whole thing from my bottom of my lip to the underside of my chin altnough the outermost parts aren't yet painful or swollen they're still palpable. Essentially it feels like a tube shaped lump and it's. Quite painful. In only 8 hours it's become a pretty concerning lump. The actual initial zit is still there she very hard. I haven't noticed any head or oozing. I've had tunneling MRSA before but in my thigh and a lot bigger. This is itchy and fast growing like a staph infection. Im just at loss. I've googled everything I. Can think of without any luck. I plan to make an appointment witha doc but I'll be a new patient and likely will wait to be seen. Should I go to an er? This thing is over an inch long and a 1/4 inch wide. It was normal until maybe 8 hrs ago when the incredibly fast growth began.
  7. My acne

I want to know honestly how bad my skin is? I am very insecure bc i am the only girl in my grade that gets "acne" and it is very upsetting to me.
  8. Hello, first post here. Im scared, so Im getting right to the description. So the other night I returned from a camping trip and performed my usual check for ticks. I found in my groin area a tiny, dark, not raised dot. I could feel it and assumed it a deer tick. This is what drove me to use tweezers. . . So I grip the black dot, and after some tugging it comes out, along with a large amount of a white wax-like mass. It was kind of like what comes out of a pimple or boil, but harder like wax you've softened with your fingers. Strange, but this is not what os bothering me. Out of the blackheads hole come out some kind of tissue. It almost resembles a skin tag, but its glistening like a wound. It is near painless, but does have sensation. It never seems dry, and hasn't remotely begun to scab. The area it is located where my thigh meets my groin. Please, any information or common experience will ease my mind.
  9. Does anyone else get cold sores and zits in the same spot?! I will get cold sores every so often in two different spots. This past year or so, I've been getting a reoccurring zit in one of those spots. It's on the edge of my upper lip. My facial lady confirmed the first time it was just a zit. I recognize now the difference, and they never do get horribly big and uncomfortable like my cold sores do. Still though, it freaks me out everytime, and I use abreva on it just to be sure. Why would I be getting a reoccurring zit in the same spot as I get cold sores?! I can't find any info on the subject.
  10. Okay, so last night i noticed a under the skin pimple that was pretty swelled and red. I decided to pop it causing the clear fluid to come out and cause a scab to form over it. Today it is still swollen and there is still a scab and zit. It is in the middle top of my forehead and it is pretty noticeable. Does anyone have any remidies or advice?
  11. Hi, Around a week ago, i started developing a fluid-filled rash (like a blister?) around a popped zit/pimple. It is now around 3cmx3cm and irregular. In the center (where the zit was) a yellow crust is also forming. I attached a photo of a simmilar fluid-filled rash found on the internet but without the middle crust. What can it be ? Your help is very much appreciated.

  13. Does 'no washing' cure acne?

Forums General acne discussion 13 replies

Does 'no washing' cure acne? About a year ago, I had really good skin, it was clear, bright and smooth, but I ended up breaking out horribly for some reason. I went to the dermatologist and she pretty much said "Oh, it's okay, it will go away." and gave me doxycycline to take. Well, that was just the beginning of my acne.... I've been going through months of trying to find the perfect cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc to cure my acne, but if you notice, if you ask the people with the clearest skin, most of them will say they do nothing to their skin. And it makes sense. I don't think our skin was intended for all these products to go on it. Have any of you guys tried the 'no washing' method, and how did it work for you? I'll try to post updates. I'm hoping for more even skin tone, less redness, and less acne. Today is the first day of no washing. Last night, I washed with my nubian heritage african black soap, just to start with a clean face. Today, I woke up with my skin just a little oily, but that was expected. Day 2 Nothing too different. My skin seems to be more "normal" toned. No reduction in acne, but there is a cluster 5 small pimples on my cheekbone that formed. They aren't too notcible though, since they are so small. Chin and nose are starting to get rough. And existing acne is also starting to get dry and rough.. Hopefuly that's good.. Update: I started splashing my face with cold water Day 3 My skin isn't too different. As each day passes though, my skin gets dryer and dryer. I think I might notice some reduction in acne, but I think it's too soon to tell. Skin is less irritated, but my chin and nose are dry. Existing is rough and dry too. Day 4 Dead skin is slightly building up. My skin still looks more even toned. I honestly think my acne is starting clear up. The bumps seem to be flattening out, it I don't want assume anything yet. As before, my nose and chin are the dryest. My Forehead doesn't seem to be liking the new method though.. update: I ended up washing my face with oatmeal, but I am still going to keep up with no washing every four days. The places where I already had acne were actually clearing up, but the places where I don't typically get acne were starting to get acne.. like continue with every four days though and build up from there.
  14. Ok so I've been struggling with acne for around almost 2 years in a half, when I was younger I struggled with bad blackheads, then when I got to 8th grade I started to get really bad acne, to the point where I would cry constantly. Makeup wouldn't cover up a thing and I developed extreme insecurities. At the moment I started drinking coffee which in my opinion was the thing that really messed me up. Afterwards I spoke with my doc and she gave me the regular things like benzoyl peroxide which made my situation 20x worse my skin got an allergic reaction to it so I stoped immediately, then my doctor prescribed me to oral antibiotics to help my acne. After I realized coffee was probably the reason for it so I stopped immediately after taking my pill for around 5-6 months there was a difference I stopped taking it but mostly because it messed up my stomach and freshman year my skin was so much better I would get my regular pimples here and there for menstrual reasons and bad eating habits at times but for the most part I was all good. Sophomore year has started and stress has accumulated and lately my acne has had a sudden burst and I'm suddenly feeling like the way I started. I've been feeling not only stressed with school but also extremely insecure because of my acne. My acne has come much differently it's more painful and some hurt so bad like never before I don't get them all over but in certain areas like my cheeks and constantly. The pimples become bubble like and kinda of like double ups. I do squeeze them at times and I know I shouldn't but it's just I hate having my face this way and I feel like everyone stares at my face. All my friends have some what good skin besides me. My skin is a major insecurity. Recently I got these two pimples on my face which started rising last Thursday and I tried to prevent them but they got super huge. I tried my regular acne treatments, tried ice and nothing. They somewhat went don't BUT now two more pimples have formed around them so it's like three down and one on the side almost like an upside L and I can't cover them in any way they are like cysts they are in bubble form and they are super red and gross and I just wanna cry seeing my face like this. New Years is 4 days and I just want this to go down and away as fast and as much as possible, at least enough for them to some what look gone with good makeup. Bumps and makeup don't work out. Not to mention school starts in 6 days and the last thing I need is this PLEASE HELP!!!!

  16. Hello! So, I had a red mark appear on my cheek about a month ago, and thinking it was just a burgeoning zit I left it alone. It never came to a head, but the mark never went away either. Usually if I leave a red mark alone and it doesn't become a zit, the red mark will go away in about 3-5 days. So that was a month ago and the mark persisted. Yesterday, I woke up to see it had become black like dried blood. I inspected it and it looked like there was just a bunch of super dark blood under the surface of my skin. But it wasn't raised it all. I'm on The Regimen so my skin is prone to dryness. Today the mark faded so it wasn't quite as black but i noticed like a dry colorless scab. Peeled that off and the skin underneath was kind of raised and infected-looking. So i squished it and blood went EVERYWHERE. There was blood on the mirror and on my hands and dripping down my face. There was some white pus but like, not an abnormal amount for a zit? just lots of Blood. Is this a normal zit? Has anyone else had a zit like this. This is what it looks like after i popped it. You cant see the greatest but it looks like there's still dark dried blood under the surface

Hey guys! ive been taking Accutane for about 3 months and a week, about 94 days now! i have made 2 videos, one at day 0 and one at day 92. before i began Accutane i really wanted to see a wide variety of people experiences, if anyone is curious what it is like to be on start Accutane, and a regiment that has worked (for me at least) check out my channel! i will make probably 2 more videos in the series, so subscribe, and like if i helped you any! thank you!
  18. Hello everyone, I'm started my second course of accutane last week. I really enjoyed reading other people's experiences so I'm going to start a weekly log posting to share my experience with you. Background info:I'm a 21 year old male and my acne began in 12 th grade and persisted. In my first year of college my dermatologist put me on 70 mg/day does of Accutane for my acne which was considered moderately-severe. My system absorbed this very well and killed my acne completely in a short course of 5 moths. If I remember correctly I got side effects 2 weeks in, a very mild initial breakout 3 weeks in, and it was all up from there. I remember thinking in my 3rd month, "why am I still taking this?". My skin was flawless at this point. Fast forward a year...I'm in second year college now and I'm beginning to feel the stress of school , and probably the effects of lack of proper nutrition. This combined with drinking alcohol has brought on some cystic, hormonal acne. It's really not bad, about one big zit every two weeks that I could cover up with my ex-girlfriends makeup pen if I wanted.Present day:The hormonal acne has persisted and slightly worsened so I decided to start course two. I like to think of my case as a silent killer, it's bad enough to effect my looks, but not bad enough to demand immediate attention. I get frustrated now looking at it in the mirror, "why me!?". Haha well Anyways, I'm sick of it so it's time to put an end to it. It's been 7 days since my dermatologist started me on round 2 at 70 mg/day. After the second day my face was extremely red and chapped. I'm beginning my initial breakout period, it's definitely noticeable but I've seen much worse. Today (day 7),the side effects remain similar. I scratched my face and some of the acne just flaked off, so that's AWESOME. However, I know to prepare for a bumpy road ahead with more breakouts in the horizon and slow healing. There's a girl in my classes who I like so I'm gonna have to compensate this mess with personality I guess. If you made it this far, here's some tips!1. WATER! I believe this is the sole reason the drug works so well with me. I'm constantly hydrating.2. Alcohol is okay if you stay in the 'tipsy' stage, but it causes breakouts. 3. Multi-Vitamins. Common sense right? D,C, and E (found in multi-vitamins) are very good for your skin!4. Chapstick and moisturizer are obvious.5. Fresh pillow case. The amount of accumulated oil on your pillow needs to be considered. I change mine every two days. 6. Your secret weapon... Smile! The most attractive thing about someone is happiness, I'll forget you even have acne and so will you. It'll be over soon if you're on accutane so just own it. *If you're not on accutane, and you suffer from acne, definitely get on it. It's safe, I've done my research. I use the "epuris" brand. Ask your doctor, it'll change your life.Anyways, I'm going to take my pills now.I would love to see questions, suggestions, or hear your story!
  19. Tea tree oil I use: http://www.ulta.com/tea-tree-oil?productId=xlsImpprod4190149 Moisturizer I use: http://www.nivea.ph/products/Mens-care/oil-control/oil-control-multi-effect-8-moisturizer-gel Which one should I apply first and after how long should I apply the latter?
  20. 2.5% benzoyl peroxide or 15% tea tree oil, which one is more effective and works faster?
  21. I'm thinking of switching from Tea Tree Oil to Benzoyl Peroxide just because how slow Tea Tree Oil is working for me. It's too slow for me. Will there be any problem if I switch? Also, how many times a day do I apply Benzoyl? I currently apply Tea Tree Oil twice a day.
  22. so earlier today I noticed I had a lump on my butt, I put on some cream and went about my day and about an hour ago I noticed how big it was so I tried to pop it but alast failed I was wondering what I should do to deal with it. But I also don't know if it is a zit or not. So if anyone can tell me I would apprticate it because it's starting to hurt
  23. I figured I would ask here though I haven't had acne since my early teens my face is clear now except the occasional zit. I popped a pimple that was above my lip lots of blood and puss came out and it's completely flat now. The area around it though is red like the color of my lip it looks like my lip darts out on to my face. It also feels kind of dry or scally. The red spot is bigger than the zit itself was. How long is this gonna last for and is there anything to do to make it go away quickly!? I know I need to shave.
  24. Hi all, A month ago I got two pimples on the right side of my nose. Usually it will get a whitehead, but these two didn't. I've popped the two pimples (what was a big mistake) and now it became purple/brownish. I have this now for like a month and I want to get rid of it. I got Affusine prescribed from the family doctor, but that didn't help. After that I went to the dermatologist and he prescribed Minocycline. (currently in my second week). Does anyone know how to treat his? Furthermore I've also tried Tea tree balm, Vicks Vaporub, La Roche Posay Effaclar Mat, but nothing helps. It really annoys me because I never had this before. Thanks in advance!
  25. Possibly infected cyst-like zit.

A few days ago a small zit between my temple and eye evolved into a monstrous knot. It's hard and round (a out the size od a dime or penny), but the swelling has spread to my eye (in the morning ings, my upper eye lid is puffy, but under my eye remains puffy and sometimes bruised). The sore is HARD and very painful, red, and a whitish scabby crater thing on top. I've put alcohol, moisturizer, generic acne wash, heat, ice... but it doesn't seem to phase it. But itt HURTS. It may be infected (I don't know-- I've never had ANYTHING like this!) Do I need to go to an urgent care or a dermatologist? Can a doctor help? What should I do? Thank you!
