  1. Sorry went a little nuts with the tags on this thread probably. Anyway, Ive been meaning to make a post about this for months. I literally cannot stop using BP gel (cream? gel? not sure its white). I have been using it pretty much every time I shave/wash my face for years. I wash my face about once a day, sometimes every two days. I have good hygiene, but I find if I wash more than that my face looks 10 times worse. Also, the BP is necessary every time now. I will have the same areas (on sides of chin, neck around adams apple) cropping up with the same big red breakouts. They arent like normal pimple, there is no white head or core, its just a hard PAINFUL red bump. You cant even pop them, they are just big painful red bumps. These also show up on my legs and butt. The products I use are the following: Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser (cleaning, also use for shaving as its better than any cream ive used)) Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion with Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Store brand BP gel 10% (I try to dilute this a little with water before applying) Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant (I also use some crafting clay in my hair, professional Sebastian, figured should mention as I am a side sleeper, i use this rarely) Not only am I having the red bumps problem if I dont use the BP, I also have large black pores and white clogged gross sebum pores. I know its terrible to go around squeezing them all, hence why i got the glycolic acid AHA gel. Even after using that for months its no better. I have researched far and wide for years, read every article out there I feel like. I am still having same issues. Would love and appreciate anyone who knows anything else. Thank you.
  2. I've been using AHA for a month and I noticed I got a little sunburnt, what sunscreen should I buy??
  3. I have an AHA+ Glycolic acid 10% tube from acne.org and it expires in 10/2018. I opened the tube in December 2017 and I am still using it in April 2018. Does this tube need to be thrown away a certain amount of time after opening it like benzoyl peroxide(Duac) usually does due to it being ineffective after being opened for so long? Or does it not matter how long ago it was opened? Do I need to store the AHA glycolic acid in the fridge after opening like you do with Duac benzoyl peroxide?

  5. AHA Making Skin Peel?

Forums The Acne.org Regimen 2 replies

I've been on the regimen since November 2017, and I added AHA to the regimen in the beginning of February 2018. I put it on at night time 1/2 and 1/2 with my moisturizer, and I've noticed that shortly after applying the AHA, it will start to kind of crumble up, especially around my chin. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not too sure if I should just go ahead and stop using it or not, because I am seeing results in regards to my hyperpigmentation.
  6. I have started using AHA glycolic acid 10% from acne.org for fading hyperpigmentation brown acne marks. I use this on top of my Duac once daily gel (Benzoyl peroxide 5%, Clindamycin 1%) so I apply the AHA after/on top of the Duac and I leave it overnight. To get the best results from the AHA glycolic acid is it best to use it without Duac underneath? Would I see faster results from glycolic acid for removing hyperpigmentation if I used AHA in the morning and having just AHA on my face alone and then putting just Duac on my face at night rather than using both at the same time and leaving it overnight? Or does it not matter?

  9. Hello all who is out there reading this, I’m James, a 23 year old male & I have been suffering from acne since age 11. I’m not quite sure on the exact cause so I’ve come here to hopefully seek some wisdom from maybe those who’ve been in my shoes. Get ready for a bumpy (face of a) ride. Here’s my journey. A brief background on my acne. I’ve tried pretty much all over the counter products. Cleansers Moisturizers Topicals: BP, Salicylic Acid, Clindamycin, Essential Oils Minocycline, Doxycycline, & eventually 6 months of Acutane. All have done there fair share of either helping slightly or damaging my skin. I would say my acne has always been pretty moderate. Anyth region above my eyes has always been crystal clear but my cheeks, chin, & forehead never have been clear. My current regimen includes: VITAMINS & MINERALS & ANTIOXIDANTS: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, B-Complex, Fish Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Zinc, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Magnesium, Beta Sitosterol (active compound in Saw Palmetto), Probiotics, & Fiber capsules. AM: Wash with a gentle gentle cleanser in the morning, use Thayers Witch Hazel (rose water) as a toner with a few drops of Salicylic Acid Moisturize is Aloe Vera gel. Before I head out the door I spray my face with Green Tea water mixed with Thayers. PM: Recently switched to a 3% Sulfur cleanser to help my dead skin cell slow turnover rate. Thayers again as a toner. Also recently switched to Azelaic Acid (20%) as my topical. Lastly I use a Retin-A . I found that Azelaic Acid & Tretinion compliment eachother. MY DIET: This last month I did a full month long colon, liver, & full body detox cleanse to insure my acne wasn’t purely internally based. I am a very health conscience person and happen to be allergic to dairy & gluten so those two factors are already out the window. I stay far from excess sugary foods & hydrogenated oils. Other than that I eat a high fiber/omega-3/omega-6/ diet. Lots of beans, lentils, veggies, avocados, fruit, rolled oats, pumpkin, flax & chia seeds, almonds & cashews. No alcohol. I drink about 3-4 cups of Green Tea a day as well as 1-2 Spearmint or Chamomile teas at night before bed. I also drink plenty of water (at least 100 fluid ounces per day). I believe I may have Hyperkeratinoisis which is a buildup of protein on the skin that clogs pores with dead skill cells. Add my excess sebum (oil) and it’s a mixture from hell. I do get stressed out but not any more than the average person. I’m a fairly calm & level headed human. Depression has taken its toll on me over the last few years after I’ve seen a dermatologist for about 2.5 years which did nothing. I actually obtain more clear skin by researching for myself and trying more holistic approaches. The best thing a dermatologist offered me was Tretinion which I still use to this day. SIDE NOTE: My acne or at least sebum production goes into overdrive after masturbation. I’ve tested the theory and I have broken out bad masturbating consistent days. Also I’ve held off work about two weeks and yes my skin got better but never fully cleared me up. The most frustrating part of this whole journey to clear skin is the teasing of new practices I implement. I try something new & it works, starts to clear me up then out of no where either backfires or stops working. Some examples of these are... Green Tea. Lost its effectiveness so I bumped up to Matcha green tea which was strong and worked again but slowly diminished strength. Pure Tea Tree Oil (huge clogger of pores). My skin was beautifully clear after dabbing pure Tea Tree Oil on my face daily unless it clogged my pores horrifically. Took 3-4 months to unclog them. Alpha Lipoic Acid. Lost its effectiveness. High Fish Oil intake. Stopped its high effectiveness & to thin out my sebum BP. Always overdried me & made my breakouts worse. It’s like my body becomes immune to all of these wonderful options and just wants to make my facial inflammation worse. There’s a few questions that I am eager to have answered. Such as products I’ve been curious to try but have not yet. So without further ado I’ll fire away. Borage Oil over EPO (evening primrose oil)? Does the higher GLA content really make a huge difference Can eating eggs & almonds truly cause more acne? Topical Spironolactone? Anyone have positive experiences with Azelaic Acid? Anyone have positive experiences switching to Sulfur cleansers? If I’ve tried Beta Sitosterol & it didn’t work should I still bother with Saw Palmetto? Sodium Sulfacetamide & Sulfur Topicals/Lotion effectiveness ? Should I try these Best products for Hyperkeratinosis acne? Best acne bacteria fighting/non-drying/non-comedogenic day time moisturizers? Does it does as if I have hormonal acne? Any advice Alpha Hydroxy Acid products? Very curious to try them out if Azelaic doesn’t pan out well. Thank you so much if you got this far. I hope that some of this info can shed new light to those out there struggling because I know some of these products work well for many acne sufferers. I haven’t found my answer yet but I’m still striving to do so. Keep fighting everyone :)!

  10. Take vitamin D and K to begin with, that will help rebalance your retinoids. Anxiety is probably one of the main causes, as Accutane completely messes up your stress and sex hormones, so right now your body probably feels a tonne of stress. People who take such a limited dose recover much better, and one of my friends took 80mg for 15 months and he is good now, though it knocked him around for a fair bit.

One of the ironic things about accutane is it makes your body react poorly to stress, then creates a fuckton of it.

    My full recovery advise is:
"Buy creatine, fish oil, coq10, zinc, multivitamins and a decent protein powder, take the recommended dosages for all of these, and try to meditate for 20 minutes a day"(if its early days take some k2 and vitD as well, that will get your retinoids in check post tane)

Anyway, even if you are a random healthy male the things I've recommended would only improve your health, all would probs be available if you went to your local discount chemist
  11. Hi ever since I started using the AHA it seems that my face is either slightly red all over or slightly darker pigment than the rest of my face. Am I using too much AHA? I used about an index fingers work just as I do the benzoyl peroxide.
  12. Ch-ch-ch-changes

    Blogs My regimen.

So many changes since my last post, and only a few of them related to my skin. About a month ago I moved from Asheville to Greensboro for a job promotion. And while it has been an amazing opportunity, it's also been hectic. I've been sick twice during that time, including during the actual move itself. I have had to make a lot of adjustments. Although I have been good about keeping up with my skincare during that time. One of the set backs has been that anytime I am presented with a different water quality, my skin freaks out. This led to a couple of unfortunate cystic pimples cropping up. It has settled down now, and ultimately the water here is better, but it left behind two scars I'm trying to deal with. Of course. My new bathroom also has much brighter LED lighting, so I think I can see my imperfections more clearly. And the lighting at my new job is florescent, which makes everything look terrible. But I try not to focus on that. It's difficult knowing that I'm using the right products and having the progress go so slowly. I am aware that it takes time and none of this is a Mr. Clean magic eraser for my skin. But I sure wish it were. I feel like there's been a lot of stagnation in my skin. It may just be time to bump up to a higher concentration of AHA and less frequent application so I can work my way back up. I'm not sure. Overall, I believe it has helped. But I still wish I could have the perfect, poreless skin we all dream of. But I will keep on and hope that I can continue to make progress, one way or another.
  13. Hi all! I am 26 y/o female. I have been using Dan's regimen for about 5 months now. I have had some improvement, but am still seeing some hormonal acne in my chin and cheeks. I am currently doing BP and lotion in the morning, then BP and lotion + AHA at night. I am considering buying OTC Differin to add to my regimen and replacing the nightly BP with it. Should a lotion be used AFTER applying a retinol? Would anyone care to weigh in on this? I would like to incorporate a retinol into my routine for the anti-aging benefits, but I would also plan to just use AHA about three times weekly for the exfoliating purposes as well. Below is a summary of the proposed routine, thoughts? Morning: Wash- Acne.org cleanser BP- Acne.org BP Moisturizer- Acne.org lotion Night: Wash- Acne.org cleanser Differin (4 nights per week) AHA- Acne.org AHA (3 nights per week)
  14. Hey guys! I've recently introduced Niacinamide (Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% by The Ordinary) into my skin care regime and I was just wondering if it would create or cause a negative reaction on my skin. I'm planning on applying the Niacinamide first, then wait a bit for it to absorb. Once done, I'd layer the AHA Lotion (Acne.org) on top. Does this sound suitable? Please let me know, any responses are much appreciated! Thanks
  15. How much AHA

I have the big bottle, so i’m wondering how many pumps i should take? Thanks
  16. I’ve been on the regimen for a month now and am miraculously clear! I just used The AHA moisturizer last night and woke up looking very fresh faced. My husband even noticed. I was glowing. Tonight when I did my regimen I noticed for the first time ever my skin was pink after applying my BP. I’m using a full index finger’s length 2x a day. I’m definitely flaky, but I’m happy with that as opposed to active acne. So my question is, is this from my use of AHA last night and is it normal? Or am I using too much BP. I did try to lower my BP a week ago which led to a few pimples so I went back to the full amount. I love the AHA and was tempted to use it again tonight, but once I saw that bright pink skin, I decided to wait and only use it a few times a week, as directed. What can can I expect as I add ahA? Will my skin need to adjust? Btw, to those out there considering this regimen, go for it!! I tried everything and my husband was telling me just to go on accutane again ( I was on it when I was 17 and i’m 32). He encouraged me to go on accutane the first time and my skin cleared. My skin was normal up until my last baby. Once I stopped breastfeeding my skin went crazy, my thyroid was off and my skin was horrific. For a solid year I have worked closely with my dermatologist and tried every prescription and treatment I could. Nothing worked. I made an appointment to get my accutane prescription but decided i would give this regimen a chance first. My last ditch effort before succumbing to the awful side effects of accutane I had experienced years ago. My husband was not pleased. He continued telling me it would not work and I was wasting time. I committed to a month. I’m now so pleased. I can honestly say I have cured my acne. I have pigmentation to deal with now, but no active break outs! The regimen takes some adjusting, but it’s so worth it!!!!! So tell me what to expect with this AHA?? Thanks!!
  17. Ive had ups and downs with inflammatory acne for years now. It's been incredibly bad before and right now its slight/moderate. I've realized that most inflammatory pimples that ive gotten, started out as closed comedones. However, I can't figure out how to get rid of these closed comedones. If I squeeze them, it's always a 50/50 chance that the squeezing will either empty the pore/clear it up, or it will aggravate it and cause an inflamed pimple. I'm wondering what types of products I can use to help prevent these comedones. I have normal-dry skin. Most exfoliants dry out my skin too much, but the mild ones I've tried have done nothing. I've experimented and switched in and out countless different products over the course of my life , yet they are always appearing on my face so I don't think it's a specific product that's causing them. I've read that AHAs or BHAs may help but I'm unsure of the difference between the two?
  18. I have 2 problems : 1- under skin acne bumps mainly on my cheeks 2- rash or discoloration on the cheeks ( same area ) I went to a dermatologist and he prescribed me Doxycycline 200mg/day and Vitamin c . I believe that is for the bumps only right ? it will not solve the pigmentation . I am thinking that I can start using Glycolic Acid cream 5% and then go for the 10% , will be that okay or I should wait until all acne is cleared up ?
  19. Hello there! I need help! So about a month or so ago I made the stupid decision to start using pore strips. (I did 3, a week apart between each). The blackheads on my nose were never even that bad in the first place, but the pore strips caused me to have huge pores and SO many blackheads that I never had before. Anyways I picked my nose blackheads once to get rid of them but they just returned so I started using AHA on my nose to hopefully increase the cell turnover and solve my problem. A few days after I picked and started using AHA, I noticed my nose developed a bunch of tiny fine lines all over it. Like if I move my nose from one side to the other you can literally see the lines stretching and moving around. It's almost as if I have a thin layer of plastic on it or something. I've attached a picture of a photo I found online that very similarly matches the lines on my nose. At first I though my nose was just dry, but it's not peeling or anything and it doesn't feel tight. A few days passed and I ended up picking at the blackheads on my nose again, getting most of them out. This time when I finished picking I used 2 % salicylic acid gel all over my nose (I had read a lot about the wonders of BHA on blackheads) and then put the AHA on top of it once it had dried. I woke up and thought the lines had improved a bit. Then I reapplied the salicylic acid twice that day (yesterday) and did the same at night with the BHA and AHA. This morning when I woke up however I noticed that the lines looked pretty bad. Regardless I reapplied the salicylic acid because I didn't even suspect it. I thought if anything it would help rid my nose of the lines. I ended up removing it after an hour or two because I started reading on what over-exfoliation looks like. My nose is red, very shiny and smooth, and has this tight look to it (despite it not feeling tight) with many many little lines.I thought these lines were from the pore strips ruining my skin, but now I'm suspecting over-exfoliation. Tonight I'm just using benzoyl peroxide on my nose like the rest of my face and using a ton of moisturizer. The blackheads on my nose have not returned fortunately, but these little lines look even worse Will they ever go away? I'm only 23. How can I get my nose back to normal faster? I've been really depressed the past week because I feel like I've permanently ruined my skin. Any advice or help would be really appreciated at this point, I'm desperate. Thank you so much for reading!
  20. Ok, so I️ have been struggling with acne for a long time. I started having small acne around 9th grade which wasn’t to bad as I was able to deal with it. Two years later my acne has developed into what I believe is a severe outbreak of closed comedones and PIH. These closed comedones and PIH have destroyed my social life and my confidence. After trying many products such as, African black soap, and noticing that it did nothing for my closed comedones, I began to research cures and found out that I had closed comedones EVERYWHERE. After more researching I heard that BHA and AHA could help. So I have just implemented the bha and aha, as I use the BHA in the morning and the AHA at night. I have been doing this for 4 days and I’m noticing that my closed comedones are surfacing as Whitehead’s andpustules which is TERRIBLE. I understand that it is purging but I’m in the middle of school right now and this just makes my confidence feel like more trash. From anyone with experience, do you think the BHA and AHA could get rid of these mfers once and for all, and how long should the purge last? Also what can I do with all the pustules and Whitehead’s surfacing. This has been my routine for the last 4 days. This my full routine: AM: Neutrogena Oil free cream cleanser (Salicylic Acid) Witch Hazel Paulas Choice BHA (leave on for 30 mins) Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer with sunscreen SPF 30 PM: Neutrogena Oil free cream cleanser (Salicylic Acid) Witch Hazel Paulas Choice AHA 8% (leave on for 30 minutes) Vitamin C Serum Cetaphil Oil Control Moisturizer with sunscreen SPF 30 Every week I plan plan to use the Dead Sea Mask along with a mandelic acid peel 25% Please give me feedback, I want my face back.
  21. Hi, I was wondering if it was possible to use both AHA and BHA together. I use glycolic acid at night and I was wondering if I could use salicylic acid 2% gel in the morning or if it would be too much? Also, I'm a woc (black) and I have ice pick scarring, is there any other procedure except TCA peels that is suitable for my skin? I don't want to experience hyper or hypopigmentation. (I do not have any existing pimples right now, just a little hyperpigmentation and ice pick scarring)
  22. AHA+ with Jojoba Oil

Forums The Acne.org Regimen 1 reply

Hi, Recently i've stopped using my Cerave Moisturizing Lotion because I noticed it made me oilier in the morning, and using AHA+ every day seems fine to me. Is it possible to start mixing a few drops of jojoba oil with a pump of AHA+ and apply that every night after bp? I normally have very oily skin throughout the day, so I really hope this won't make me oilier.
  23. I have been on the regimen for a little over a month now and recently I have broken out really badly. Mulitple zits. I am wondering if this treatment is not working or if I'm in the purging phase. I am also wondering whether I should get aha for my old acne scars. Please help needed ASAP!
  24. Aha question

Forums The Acne.org Regimen 2 replies

If I am only using the benzoyl peroxide on certain areas of my face, do I do the same with aha? For instance I am not putting the BP on my forehead at all , will I be putting the aha on my forehead once I start using it?
  25. What's up guys. I've been on the regimen for 2 weeks now, both facial and body and I started with mild/moderate acne for the most part. After a while my face started to develop intense flaking, so I looked like The Thing from Fantastic Four. I fixed that by using AHA mixed with the moisturizer regularly. Then it got to my chest, initially right above the collarbone, where my skin got so tight I felt like it would rip if I stretched my chest. At this point my skin doesn't feel tight anymore, but not long after application of the AHA that is applied on the body regimen my skin feels dry, and it has spread to my entire upper chest, and it's also ridiculously red. I have speculated that the initial blow was dealt due to a sunburn caused by the increased effect of AHA, but it has spread so much now, and looks so weird. The picture I have attached also shows some weird lines that look sort of like the scars after a severe burn. They can also be felt on the skin, although that may just be because of the thinner layer of skin after the skin peels, both chemically and after flaking. (Everything is more red irl) Side notes: So far it's cleared up my acne, so that's great, I'm only a bit afraid that I'm gonna have to rely on the regimen forever from now on. Bottom line is: Does anybody know if this red- and dryness is normal and subsides, or should I change something? Thanks in advance.
