  1. Spironolactone - Need Encouragement

It took 1.5 yrs to see consistent progress for me. Think long term for seeing consistent improvements.
  2. Is this Hormonal Acne? Tips and Advice?

I hear you about wanting to find the root cause. The thing is, that process takes time. It could be months or YEARS trying to figure out things on your own. If you want a good place to start, eliminate dairy and gluten and give it a solid 3-6 months. I would caution against BC as acne tends to come right back and sometimes, 10 X worse than it was to begin with, once you're off it. I second going to a derm and seeing what they can provide, starting with topicals and if those don't work, working your way up to pills such as SPIRO. It's frustrating, especially since you've never had to deal with it before. Good luck and keep us posted. FYI - it may be helpful to start a blog on here where you can post pictures and track your progress.
  3. Itchy pimples

Acne is a beast with no respect for age . I'm 34 and still dealing with it. The area you are experiencing breakouts sounds hormonal. You may want to head over to the hormone forums and see what you can find.
  4. Day # 425

Spiro interesting enough was originally used to help hair grow. In the very first few weeks, i shed hair like crazy but that stabilized. I then started spotting and having wonky periods then that stabalized. I think the body needs time to adjust so give it time. If its bothering you, definitely follow up with your derm.
  5. 23 months in

Hi everyone. I know i haven't been posting updates as frequently but that is due to my keeping up with my other blog on the realself website. I've been documenting my spiro journey there with pictures and updates every few weeks. Since my last post, my skin has been in an in between place. Not clear and not completely and utterly broken out. I am getting some under the skin large bumps on my right chin and also eczema or rosacea irritation on the sides of my chin and mouth. My inner cheeks and above my lip has also been getting this irritation. My med usage has been the same. My frustration comes from having these breakouts EVEN with meds and not knowing my TRIGGERS. I've tried diet, i've tried organic stuff, i've tried herbs and lotions and potions and recommendation and frankly......i'm exhausted. I've even tried leaving my skin alone. Having had a taste of clear skin and then having to revert back to this is maddening. Anyway, just wanted to keep it real and share because i know many of you are going through the same struggles. Here's to better days ahead.....
  6. Exercise and Acne

After not working out for a few years due to acne, rosacea and occasional PD, I started walking in the park 2 weeks ago, 4-5 times a week, 3-4 miles each time. I feel good. My energy is up and I feel like I'm finally putting the right foot forward with my health. Within that time however, I notice that I am breaking out more and more with puss filled pimples. I've been on spiro going on two years and elidel cream for my eczema and it's been for the most part great. Any insight if my acne is a result of working out? I don't want to stop but I don't want my skin to go back to being horrendous. thoughts? i shower as soon as I get done.
  7. Annoyed. Despite being on spiro, it seems that stress still has a bigger influence. Dealing with 5 active pimples with whiteheads............
  8. Ringworm or pityriasis rosea?

Please repost pics. I had pityriosis rosea last summer so I'm familiar with how it looks.
  9. Clusters around mouth!!!!!

I get the same thing in addition to acne. It looks like one of two things. Rosacea or Perioral dermatitis. Definitely look both up and if it continues to spread, don't wait.....see a derm.
  10. I've been on spiro almost two years. It took well over a year for me to get some consistent clearing of my skin so keep going. Keep in my mind i still break out from time to time but it is nowhere near as bad as it was (currenly dealing with a breakout currently). I would give it 6 month to a year before deciding if its for you.
  11. Day (Who is still keep track)

I haven't been on for a while as i've been emersing myself in school. I'm on my last 3 classes so i can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel. Speaking of light.......me and my acne are in a good place. Spiro is working really well and i can say my skin is stable. I break out pretty normally like around my period but its minor and not as anxiety inducing as it once was. For my chin which is a mixture of rosacea and some PD, i am using soolantra which has been pretty amazing. I hardly break out there, even during my period. Next steps..... Starting in September, my derm will start weening me down on my dosage. This drug while being God sent has helped my weight to balloon (though my poor eating habits haven't helped). I also don't like being on any medication for such a long period of time. I shudder to think that skin will revert back to it's form but praying it won't. I'l keep everyone posted!
