Tara vs Acne

My battle with acne at age 22 with accutane

7 pictures in Tara vs Acne

Me on my first week of Accutane

I'm 22, and have had explosive acne over the past 4 months...6 months ago my face was almost spotless...a few minor pimples once in a while..but nothing that amounted to acne...especially not cystic acne. This is liberating to me to post myself on this site...I've found acne humiliating and shameful over the past few months, especially since I can't wear makeup =] But now I'm digging deep inside myself for confidence and self esteem...which I never believed I had problems with before. So I'm open here to any suggestions and comments or questions..I'll post new pictures of my face each week while going through the accutane treatments..I hope it works :)

Side note: when I was 16 I took accutane before for regular white head pimple acne...nothing that amounted to the severity of what I have now...up till now I have only had minors pimples once in a while. I wonder what brought this on again, with this much fury.

The good thing is, your acne doesn't look very deep, so after accutane you shouldn't really have any scarring.

have you gone through any major life changes in the past 4-6 months? I noticed that whenever I go to BC with my family for a couple weeks I get major breakouts, probably due to water or climate change, but when I get back my skin is back to its usual self. It's scary to think that your skin can change so drastically in such little time hey..don't worry about it, you've got a really beautiful face so you're not aloud to be sad among regular-looking people haha

I'm sorry you're going through this.....like everyone else said, you're pretty and thankfully you don't appear to have cystic acne, therefore the odds of you being scarred after your tane course decrease....dramatically. It is weird though, that all of this happened in such a short period of time........did you switch to any funky hair/skin products 4 months ago? Did you change your laundry detergent.....fabric softener? I'm sure accutane will take care of everything for ya.....however, can I ask, why can't you wear makeup? Are you allergic to it?

I know the feeling you must get, I were never close to being in your sitiuation but i still know how bottomless you can feel by having bad skin.

However. Your beautiful, look at the first picture and the last, your face construction is very pretty. I know thats proabibly not a very big comfort, but i thought I'd tell you anyway since I truly feel that way.

Im swedish, and studying to become a doctor specialized in dermatology.

With that said, I believe your skin condition is very treatable, just as long as your gentle and give it time.

I hope it'll be gone, I'm praying for it to be gone in at least 5 months...before I go home (I'm living in Korea right now). Yeah going through this makes me want to be some sort of miracle dermatologist.

Yeah scarring is my bigest concern...I'm acutally having facials done each week at my dermatologists, and they do proffesional squeezing there...have you ever heard of this...it hurts like hell...and I'm affraid it'll leave scars.

Have you had any major changes in your life in the past 4-6 months? I go to BC with my family a couple times a year and everytime we go I look forward to massive breakouts, maybe because of the water/climate change, but it tells me that my skin is prone to breakouts whenever any change occurs.

I have had a big change, I moved to South Korea to teach english in september...I also stopped birth control pills for 4 months...and then went back on cause my cycle was a mess. So all this together added in with stress and a lot of weight fluctuations could have caused some pimples....but severe acne? I donno...right now i'm just gonna try to work on being relaxed and get this treated before I go back home to my friends and family.

I did move to South Korea from Canada 7 months ago...and stopped and started birth control pills at the same time...so that could be a possibility. And the reason I don't wear makeup is b/c it irritates my skin when I have acne...the acne I have now is really itchy...so makeup jsut makes it get worse...haha but when my face is clear I can wear it...defeats the purpose of makeup though

TARA I really really feel for you.

:( There's no smiley for hugging so that's the best I can do.

I, too, am 22 years old. Actually, I, too, am starting on my first week of Accutane. I started getting acne two years ago, but it's gotten really bad in the past 4-6 months. I teach in the city, which is hard because the kids love to comment on my face. So of course, it wrecks one's self-esteem.

Here's to a successful cycle on Accutane.

hey there.. yeah this site is brilliant.. i was so pleased when i found it too.. ive made some really cool friends and its just soooo nice to know that were not alone in battling this horrible skin condition!! but im on accutane too going into my 6th week now and im only now starting to see improvement.. but one thing i did notice right away.. was that i had like zero oil on my face in the first week.. then i had a initial outbreak wich was really bad.. but i seem to be coming out of it now!

I too saw a massive difference in my skin due to b/c pills.. i was on yasmin for 3 years and my skin was flawless on while i was on ut.. then my gran died and i guess looking back it was just stress but my skin started to get bad so... i came off it but it was gettng worse than when i was on the yasmin.. so decided id go back on it but that was the worst decion everrrrr madeeee! lol cos my skin just broke out like mad. an was sooooooooooooo oily it was unbelievable.. seriously id put my make up on then like 10 mins later id be drippingi with oil!! so i was so pleased when the oil started to cease when i started acutane! so hang in there its gunna get better.. just takes time! how long have u been on it and what dose are u on chick?? xx

Do it! I love doing what im doing, and the genuine happiness in peoples faces when they've come to a place where they are happy with their skin is priceless.

My friends from the pre-med classes I were in, especially the guys, think Im nuts choosing Dermatology (they want to be 'proper doctors' they say *lol*), but I truly love doing it and it doesnt make me feel like any less of a man :ohno:

If your curious, Id gladly answer any questions you might have!

I'm sorry, but I don't think that what you have is acne.. For one, the itching is caused by an allergic reaction to something.. What skin care products do you use? How long have you been getting these facials in Korea? How good do you think your dermatologist is? I have been dealing with acne from hormone changes for about 4 years now. The dermatologist I see is the wife of my husbands best friend and she is very christian and honest.. She said that alot of derms will just give you anything or tell you that you need all of this and that just so you will come back and spend money and they pocket that office visit money... I went on Mercette and it got bad, stopped mercette and got Nuvaring. finally cleared for 3 years and then went off the Nuvaring to have baby # 3 and it came back again just as bad.. I have seen 3 derms and 3 estiticians and finally got help from the wife.. I can tell you that the first derm that I went to see gave me alot of topical stuff and my face looked exactly like yours after about 2 weeks.. I only had like 3-4 pimples at the time but this is before the hormone changes and I just wanted perfect skin. I quit using the stuff he gave me and it cleared up in about a week. I never went back to him.. Recently my estetician gave me a product to try and the same thing happened just not quite as bad this time.. I stopped it on Friday and am still waiting for the last 4 to go away.. I can always tell when it's an allergic reaction because of the ITCHING and the dryness and tightness..Some of the pimples will look like bug bites and never come to a head unless you dig at them.. If you leave them alone they will just stay sore hard red bumps with no white in the middle. It also happens to me everytime I get a facial from anywhere..I have resorted to laser genesis to reduce my pores which is what facial are supposed to do.. What is your daily skincare regimen?
