Well I'm due to finish my Tane soon - currently on just one tablet a day.

Have spent the last three months travelling in Europe and Africa so my derm agreed to keep me on Tane for that time at one tablet a day to make sure I stayed clear.

I'm due to go to the derm in the next month for an assessment of the treatment and am keen to discuss options for keeping my skin clear once I stop the Tane.

No side effects, it's been a pretty painless treatment and I'm actually going to really miss the confidence Mr Tane has given me!

Warm wishes to all of you on the Tane journey - may it be as wonderful an experience as mine has been and will hopefully continue to be!

EternalTraveller

Has been a number of months since I last posted - yes, I'm naughty I know!!

Anyway, still on the Tane and all is amazing. Perfectly clear skin.

Love it!!

So those of you battling through, just know that it all gets better and amazing results are possible :)

Well a month has passed since my bad blood test (high triglycerides - see post below).

But in sensational news, the blood test I had on Friday came back with all normal values! Yay!

Well after my bad news following my last blood test, I have been doing everything in my power to bring my triglycerides down - consuming mainly fish and vegetables, quite a bit of sashimi and lots of grilled/steamed salmon, lots of fresh veges, very little sugary/saturated fat foods. And making sure I get a good amount of exercise as often as possible (stairs at work to all meetings - which considering I am on 17th floor and most meetings are on 1, 5 or 9, it all adds up, plus have gotten back into cycling and walking).

Will let you know how my blood test goes when I take it later this week and get the results.

Roaccutane dosage - 20mg with dinner

Skin - Had one pimple just above the right hand corner of my mouth. Came to a head which I squeezed and it has disappeared quickly. Also have two tiny under the skin bumps (are these milia?) on each side of my chin. Not noticeable, I can only feel them just when washing my face in the shower. Dermatitis on hands has almost disappeared.

Side Effects - Nil.

* Body - Palmolvine Milk & Honey Body Wash

Well everything had been going well - skin was looking great, I was feeling good, life was busy and I was living it up (including the odd glass of wine or cocktail here and there).

I go off for my routine blood test and a few days later (on Tuesday this week) get an email from my derm advising that my Triglycerides are too high (5.6 mmol/L when the normal range is 0.5 - 2.0) and he thinks I need to come off Tane for a month and then reassess.

I manage to talk him around to letting me continue but at a lower dose (ie. 20g per day) and to take another blood test in a months time, plus lots of healthy food and exercise (both things that have been lacking of late due to lots of evening work functions and a few conferences during the past few weeks). So no red meat, minimise the bad oils and fats, lots of veges and fish, no alcohol (not a drop!), no soft drink or fruit juice, just water and peppermint tea (apparently this helps lower triglycerides).

So this is a real downer but I'm going to do everything in my power to get my Triglycerides down so that I can keep on with Mr Tane. He also suggested taking fish oil capsules - said it couldn't do any harm.

Roaccutane dosage - 20mg with dinner

Well on the weekend I noticed that I had one Roaccutane tablet left in my third box. So I go over to my medicine cabinet and go to get out my script from where I always keep my scripts. But it's not there. I leaf through the scripts in there again - but no, no Roaccutane.

I then proceed to call my pharmacy to see if by any chance they have my script there. They tell me, no, sorry, we don't have it here.

At this point I have a little rising panic. I'm off interstate this week for work, I have only 1 tablet left and so I need to find my script!!

I then proceed to go through my entire house from one end to the other checking on every shelf, in every draw, in every bag,... you get the picture.

Still no script. Panic has well and truly set in.

I send my derm a txt message asking if there is any chance he can rewrite me my script. No response.

I proceed to go back through my entire house doing a search - take 2.

Still no script.

Then I call my pharmacy once again. A different person answers (the pharmacist) and goes and checks the script drawer for me.

He comes back on the line: "Yes we have your script"

Wooooo! Relief washes over me.

Don't do that to me again Mr Tane!! :)

Well I guess it had to happen eventually, but I didn't think it would be so soon... yes, that's right folks, my relationship with Mr Tane has evolved to the point that I'm now starting to take him for granted.

A few months back I would have never entertained the idea that my relationship with Mr Tane would get to this point, but I now can't deny it any longer! I hardly even think about Mr Tane anymore - to the point where I have forgotten a couple of doses - something I wouldn't have down a month or so back!

But that said, the relationship is pretty idyllic and is leaving plenty of mind and heart space for my real man :)

Well time certainly flies when you're having fun and not obsessing about every lump and bump!

All is great with Mr Tane and I - still happily co-existing.

Had a hard lump on the left side of my jaw a week and a bit ago which came to a partial whitehead which I felt the need to squeeze. Wasn't quite ready but nonetheless it promptly flaked off and disappeared. Mr Tane really seems to accelerate these things - previously this would have take weeks to resolve.

Well I have to say that Mr Tane and I continue in our state of wedded bliss. So much so that I've barely been thinking about my skin and *shock horror* not even remembering to check in and post here!

As for dosage, I've decided to stick with 40mg per day. Given that I am having no real side-effects and could happily continue on this dose for as long as required, I think it is better not to try out a higher dose and potentially trigger side effects that may necessitate me finishing my course sooner.

Roaccutane dosage - 20 mg with lunch, 20 mg with dinner

Well Mr Tane and I have offically made it to our Gold Weddding Anniversary - in days at least :naughty:

Still, with the divorce stats these days I think that's a pretty good achievement - particularly given my various dalliances during the relationship thus far - Mr Lucas (of Papaw Ointment fame) and my current beau (yes, a real life man :naughty: )

May I make a toast to Mr Tane and many, many happy days to follow (now, and in the future even when Mr Tane and I go our separate ways hehe)

Roaccutane dosage - 20 mg with lunch, 20 mg with dinner

Skin - No active pimples. Oh, and no pash rash after this weekend's amour :naughty:

Well while the world is glued to the TV watching the Olympics, I am amazed by the faster-than-a-spedding-bullet pace in which the little pimples on my chin have surfaced and are now healing. The one on the right side seems to have just surfaced and fallen off (does that make sense?) while the one on my left came to a full little whitehead today and popped after my shower this evening. Oh, and silly me forgot to take my BCP yesterday - remembered and took it today - hopefully that doesn't play havoc with my skin...

Roaccutane dosage - 20 mg with lunch, 20 mg with dinner

Skin - Dermatitis on hands is sticking around.

Side Effects - Nil. Had a cracker of a headache for about 5 minutes yesterday but it went away. I don't think it is Tane related.

Well the good news folks is that my pash rash has just about healed (skin dried and peeled off on my chin) but I have got two tiny pimples on each side of my chin which I think is a special little hello from my PMT... ah well, as long as they stay small and go away quickly I will be happy...

Well I'm sorry to tell you folks but Mr Tane has a mean and jealous streak. Yes, I had trouble believing it at first but having experienced it first-hand, I am now a believer.

I realise I have played my part in the dark and sordid events that have unfolded - first I go around shouting about my passion for another (Mr Lucas) from the rooftops in the very blog where Mr Tane expects me to espouse my never-ending passion for him and now, well, let's just say that I have taken my newly found Mr Tane-induced confidence and *shock horror* started to see someone else...

At first I thought Mr Tane was cool with it. My skin was behaving well. But how wrong I was. After an evening with my new man, and some rather passionate kissing (which was very enjoyable I must say), I woke up the next morning with a very sore and red chin. Mr Tane had taken his revenge. Two days on, my skin has little bumps on one side of my chin which I think took the brunt of a bit of stubble on my kisser's face and is raised and dry and still red. Fortunately my everyday minerals powder does a good job at naturally covering it up.

But beware those of you having a relationship with Mr Tane - he doesn't take kindly to passionate kissing!

Lets hope he doesn't interfere with other things! :naughty:

Roses are red

Violets are blue,

I love Mr Lucas

And so will you!

Ok, so yes, Mr Tane might get jealous but I just can't go on hiding my passion any longer. Besides, it was Mr Tane who drove me into the arms of Mr Lucas... Lucas' Papaw Ointment that is!

Having tried just about ever lip balm when I started Tane, I can categorically, 100% declare that Lucas' Papaw ointment is far superior in performance to them all. Even if I forget to apply it and my lips get dried out and to the point of painful cracking (ok, so I was distracted with other things on Saturday), within 15 minutes of applying Lucas Papaw Ointment my lips are once again comfortable. I've even had people asking me what lip balm I use while admiring my moist and smooth lips.

And no, I have no associations with Lucas Papaw Ointment - just wanting to share the good word :naughty:

And good news on the muscle tear thing - feeling much better now, but will take it easy with the heavy lifting hehe

Thanks for the tips Rach on the new man/kissing thing :naughty:

In other news, I was moving around rather a lot of furniture at the beginning of this week and ended up with a very tender lower abdomen - so much so that I went to the doctor and he says there is a possibility it may be a hernia, or could just be a more minor muscle tear. He's referred me to get an ultrasound but first I'm going to wait a few days to see if it improves on its own in case it's just a muscle tear.

I know that Tane can make your skin more fragile, but does anyone know if it can make muscles or other things more succeptible to damage?

Roaccutane dosage - 20 mg with lunch, 20 mg with dinner

Skin

A few tiny raised skin coloured blocked pores (a couple in chin area). End of cyst on my chin expelled a tiny little hard lump in shower this week - a tiny little scab now. 1 tiny whitehead on nose (still there!). Tiny blackhead clusters still present. They seem to go through a phase of emerging in one part of the face, purging themselves and then emerging in another area. They're on my nose at the moment. I have to confess that I extracted some of them earlier this week with a cottonbud - but gently, so no damage to my skin. Red dots on the top of my right hand have turned scaly and are now gradually going away.

Well in the midst of all the stress of the past week (now nearly resolved), I've met a new guy. He even cooked for me on Friday night - impressive

So Mr Tane might just have a contender for my affections :(

Despite the stress of the last week, my skin has been really well behaved - just a tiny little pimple on the right hand side of my chin that is not at all raised and doesn't feel inflamed. In such stressful situations I would usually break out with big and inflamed cysts. So yes, my passion for Mr Tane is still running pretty strong hehe

In the interests of this blog being an honest account of where I'm at, here goes...

Some stressful stuff is going on in my life right now and today it all just got to me. Had a little cry (yeah, it's that time of the month too). Feeling pretty low at the moment. No apetite (moreso than the slight appetite reduction effect Tane has had). Hopefully the situation that is causing the stress will be resolved by the weekend and I can go forward with my usual happy-go-lucky approach to life.

Have had a lovely weekend - catching up with friends, a Christmas in July party and some cooking :(

My skin is feeling pretty good now - the wierd lumpiness along my jawline has gone along with the excess oiliness and the itchiness is a thing of the past (yay!) Now I just get the flushing coming and going (tane sunburn look) and continue to have little farms of tiny blackheads and a few skin-coloured, non-inflamed blocked pores - both of which I can handle.

I even had someone tell me last night that my skin was looking radiant - yes, I did a double take at that comment too as I don't think I've yet fully adjusted to the reality of my new happy skin state!

Given all the warnings about not getting pregnant while on Tane or immediately thereafter, I had to have a giggle with one of my friends who is pregnant (not on Tane) about the fact that there are actually quite a few similarilities between being on Tane and being pregnant:

(1) Alcohol consumption is seriously frowned upon - we're both on the wagon as it were and lamenting the days (and nights!) of Bacardi and Coke, Gin and Tonic, limoncello... the list goes on!

(2) Red-hot flushing of the face is a fun-for-the-whole-family side effect (I'm sure giving Rudolf a run for his money - I can guide that sleigh any day or night with my face so bright!! hehe)

(3) Skin behaves like some crazy relative, mood changing by the day and sometimes hour - oily one day, dry the next, oily and dry at the same time the following day - while my friend is waiting for the "glow" to kick in, I'm hopefully watching my initial-Tane increase in oil subside.

(4) Supplements are the order of the day - to the point that we both sometimes worry we might rattle as we walk down the street.

Ah well, at least I won't have to change the nappies of the love-child of Mr Tane and I :(

Following on from yesterday's disclosure of my steamy, hot and torrid affair with Mr Tane, I spent today wondering whether I should up my dosage to 60mg once I get through the next week or so (my usual PMT break out time).

When my derm prescribed the Tane he said to start on 40mg and then I could try out 60mg if I wanted to (but noted that some people can't tolerate that much). So it's really up to me...

So here's my current thinking:

* I'm tolerating the 40mg quite well (no IB - touch wood - and no major side effects)

* I could up my dosage by 20mg and finish my course sooner. This appeals as I would ideally like to have finished mt Tane course when summer comes around so I can spend some time out in the sun as I love snorkelling/swimming at the beach.

* I'm worried however that upping my dose may bring on an IB and possibly start some side effects (e.g. joint pain), and if so, would be happier to continue with the 40mg.

Any advice?

Thanks

You know when someone special comes into your life and suddenly you find yourself thinking about them often, doing things that you think will make them happy, daydreaming about how the relationship might progress...?

No, I haven't met a new guy, I'm talking about my significant other - Mr Tane!!

Just a little over two weeks ago Mr Tane came into my life and now I find myself:

*choosing what I eat to keep my body in tip-top shape for Mr Tane

* taking short, tepid showers with Mr Tane rather than luxuriating in the long, hot showers I used to adore

* using entirely different products to complement Mr Tane's impact on my life - from cleanser through to lip balm through to supplements

* resisting my night-owl tendencies and heading off to bed earlier with Mr Tane (oooh ahhh :(

* obsessing about my relationship with Mr Tane, and hoping he won't break my heart!

I think I'm falling in L...

Chilled out day today - sleep in (ahhhhhhh), long walk with my mother and her dog, and some lovely time to relax with some books this afternoon :(

I'm about to head into PMT territory this week and so I'll be interested to see how my skin fares as that is usually when my skin flares up.

Hope the Tane is treating you all OK.

Had a lovely evening last night at my friend's party & spent the day today with other friends doing work for a charity that I am on the committee of. Now just chilling out, well slathered in moisturiser. And I am currently loving Lucas Paw Paw Ointment for dry, chapped lips!

It was funny today as I mentioned to two friends that I am on Roaccutane and explained what it was for. Both were really surprised that I was on it and that I actually even had acne! In fact, one friend said that she always wished that she had my skin. I guess this is partially to do with the fact that most of my face has always been clear, except for my chin, and I have had periods of clear skin (like the time I was travelling in Europe with this particular friend) and when I haven't had clear skin I have either avoided people or kept it well covered with makeup. Still, was rather surprising!

Enjoy your weekends,

My chin area and the area just below my chin onto my neck is feeling a little less itchy today. The "lumpy" look is still there some of the time but seems to come and go. It seems to lessen when I drink copious amounts of water. I'm noticing quite a lot more tiny blackheads. Before Tane I only ever had about 3 or less on my entire face and they would be on my nose/around my nose. I can now see some on my nose, forehead, chin, area between nose and mouth, and maybe some on my cheeks. The cyst on my chin (which is more like a small pimple now) had a tiny whitehead today which I removed with a needle after my shower tonight. I applied a tiny bit of teatree oil to it. It should dissapear soon I hope and then I won't have any active acne. Still getting red flushing of cheeks, but generally less when keeping well hydrated.

Well my chin area and just below my chin into my neck continues to feel extremely itchy despite the application of moisturiser and the fact I have resisted the urge to itch or tear my face off!! It's also very red - pretty much constantly and the skin along my jaw line looks lumpy (not like acne) but uneven and it didn't look this way before I started Tane.

Fortunately I can distract myself from the itchiness by keeping myself busy. I spent tonight making a large batch of chocolate brownies to take to a friend's party tomorrow night and to a charity working bee on Saturday. Just have to finish them off with chocolate ganache icing - yes, ever so decadent but I actually don't eat that much of sweet things. I usually have chocolate less than once a month, and even then it is maybe 1 or 2 squares of it! My weakness has always been savoury foods - particularly chips!

Anyway, I better get back to the cooking. Hope all your journeys are treating you kindly.

Skin

Face - 2 pale spots remaining from healed cysts, tiny dot from pimple by right corner of mouth. Chin-horn is well on the way to healing and shrinks daily but keeps shedding its little scab on top. No new pimples/cysts. Congested pores around my nose continue and my chin area feels quite rough - almost like I can feel every pore. It also looks more uneven than it used to like the skin surface is not even any more. I'm sure this all part of the purging/dryness.

Side Effects - Dry skin. Red flushing of cheeks. Itchiness around chin.

Food - Porridge for breakfast with a little milk; fish, a few chips and pasta salad for lunch, tuna with some crackers, and a green smoothie for dinner; an apricot-coconut bar for a snack. Plenty of water and one cup of tea with milk.

Using

* Hair - L'Oreal Elvive NutriGloss Shampoo & Conditioner

* Body - Nivea Pampering Shower Oil followed by Mor Orange Blossom Whipped Body Cream

* Face - Cetaphil with a tiny bit of Neutrogena SkinClearing Foaming Face wash on chin, followed by Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Moisturiser mixed with a tiny bit of Tea tree oil acne gel.

* Lips - Burts Bees Lip Balm, Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Moisturiser, Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Handcream (Fragrance Free)

* Everyday Minerals Semi Matte foundation just on spots

Taking

* Estelle 35ED (generic form of Brenda 35ED)

Tip of the day

I don't think Aquaphor is available here in Australia but I have discovered that Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Handcream (Fragrance free) does a good job of relieving dry lips and lasts longer than some other balms. While it is designed for hands, the pack says it can also be used on other parts of the body including lips.
