Day 120

So, I remembered that I had this blog! I have been on accutane (absorbica) for 4 months now. I took a month break because I don't have insurance and my self pay program got canceled, and it took time for me to be approved for another one. But thankfully I have, and I am now starting month five! My dermatologist said this will most likely be my last month, but we might push it more. I am currently taking 40mg twice a day.

I still have very dry skin, dry lips, dry nose (that's a new one) and super dry hands. I no longer have any active breakouts, but the scarring is still very bad. It's all over the sides of my face, and without makeup my skin doesn't look nice because of it. It's also very red, to be expected. My skin does look a lot better than it did four months ago, though, don't get me wrong. I'm very thankful this has been helping, and I no longer break out.

At this point I am just wanting skin without so much scarring and am kind of fearful that since this may very well be my last month on accutane, that when I'm off of it all my acne will come back.

Day 31

My dosage has been upped to 60 mg per day, so two 30 mg tablets each day! I'm super excited to up my dosage because I just want to get better as soon as possible! My skin is still dry and my lips still chapped, but other than that not really noticing any other side effects. Excited to see what 60 mg will bring! Not so many pimples are popping up as well, which is making me notice my scars a whole lot more. So that sucks, but hey, hopefully new ones will stop forming!

Does anyone know good solutions for acne scars that you can do while on accutane?

Day 15

Okay, so I'm now on day 15 and there are definite changes showing now!!! My lips are always chapped, which is annoying if I don't have a chapstick with me at all times. My skin is less oily, more red, and really dry around my nose and cheeks. I've gotten quite a few pimples this week as well, which don't seem to be too bad. My skin is more sensitive as well, it's easier to accidentally pop a pimple which has been happening.

I don't see any improvement yet, but I didn't really expect to in the first couple weeks anyways! But right now my biggest battle is the chapped lips and dryness!

Day Seven

I probably won't update every day, but I figured I'd use this post to describe my skin since I didn't in my first post! I have super super oily skin, like, I use so many of those oil blotting sheets a day. I haven't noticed a decrease in oiliness yet, but my lips are starting to get chapped. I came prepared though, I have a stash of what my research calls the best chap sticks! I also bought some moisturizer (cetaphil) which I've never really had to use before so it's new to me for my face to feel a bit dry after washing it. I'm not using anything with salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide in it anymore (I use cetaphil face wash), and have begun to use the topicals less and less so my skin doesn't freak out when eventually I don't use them at all.

So far no decrease in pimples, in fact I've gotten a few new ones, but that also might be attributed to what time of the month it is. I took my first progress pictures today and will be uploading them on my next entry, and will be continuing to do so as pictures really do document progress better than anything!

Day Six

So, this is a late first post, starting on day six and all. I am taking 40mg once per day. Nonetheless, hello anyone who wants to follow me on this journey as well! Today is day six on accutane, and I don't really notice any differences in my skin at all. I know I was supposed to stop using my topicals that I was using before while on it, but until I notice any differences I'm going to keep using them or else my skin will break out like crazy. Last time I was off of them my acne got so bad which is what I can attribute all these lovely scars to.

I'm not sure how personal I want this blog to get yet, but I am interested in also following other blogs of people that are on accutane, so if you are too please comment and I will follow your blog! I don't want to be in this alone! smile.png

I'll also be uploading progress photos as soon as I get the hang of this, I'm just hoping accutane will be the one thing that will actually work! I'm so so so sick of trying a million different things and spending hundreds of dollars on the next thing that will supposedly help.
