My experiences

I've tried everything under the sun. Duac, Differin, Acanya, Atralin, Metrogel, Doryx...so many prescriptions & none have worked. I asked my friend what she did to stop her acne. She said she only washes her face when she felt it was necessary, otherwise she didn't use cleansers when she felt it wasn't needed. So... that's what I'm trying now.

It has now been 11 days since I started this. I used to use cleansers daytime & nighttime to wash my face. It could be something gentle like Cetaphil or something with exfoliation like Olay efoliator or Body Shop Vitamin C exfoliation.

I stopped using most of the products. I wash my face with luke warm water & pat dry with a towel. There are times I do use a gentle cleanser, for instance when I've had a really hard work out. I also still use exfoliators but only about once a week. The rest of the time, it's just water. So... I've had only 2 tiny breakouts thus far! They were so small & insignificant that I was thrilled by the results.

After 10 days though, I've noticed tiny bumps on my forehead. Note that my forehead has been 99% clear for over 1/2 a year now, if not more. I have only been breaking out on my cheeks in the past 2 years. So, I've decided maybe my forehead loved the cleansers, whereas my cheeks didn't. I have started using a gentle cleanser only on my forehead to get rid of the bump. Hopefully, this strategy will work considering my forehead has been awesome for a long time whereas my cheeks were breaking out constantly. So I must have been doing something right with my forehead. No need to change that routine.

Before this experience, I just assumed my whole face was to be treated the same. I don't know why it's taken me 22 years to realize that they probably produce oils differently.

With this new routine, I've found that my skin isn't producing as much oil as it was when I was using a cleanser on my whole face. With the lower oil production, means less breakouts. What a new concept! haha I don't know why it didn't hit me sooner. I guess I felt that if I didn't clean my face, it would break out but I was wrong. Water still does a decent cleaning with or without a cleanser.

I have been 10 days free of the big red hurtie (my term) acne now. I will see how long this will last.

Morning & Night

Bath & Body Works Rice Facial Cleanser

DDF 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel w/ Tea Tree Oil

Bath & Body Works Rice Lotion

I have not seen any drastic changes using the above regimen. It has kept me consistent, but hasn't prevented any new breakouts. My oily skin hasn't been as oily as it was before, so that is a plus.

I think I will give this another month to see if my skin does improve.

I have been getting monthly facials to clean out my clogged pores that I always seem to get no matter what I use on my skin.

I have been wondering if Laser treatments will be advantageous for my skin but I know they are very pricey procedures & you may need more than 1 session to see results.

I have used the Acne Free line for approximately 3 months. The product is gentle to my skin. It didn't help it nor harm it. It was just something to use on my skin. I did not notice clearer skin. It had included a trial size of the Pimple Peel (which my cousin swears by) but it did nothing for me. It dried up her pimples but it didn't do anything for me. So I will not use this product again.

So I just tried the Juice Beauty line for Blemished Skin. They use all organic products so I figured this may be advantageous to me. It all smells like apples. They have a cleanser, a serum & a lotion for Blemished Skin. I used it for 2 weeks & I was a total greaseball. I have not been this greasy in a very long time. After 2 weeks, I switched to the regular cleanser (not for blemished skin) and the regular lotion & the oils on my face were more regulated. I've decided not to continue using this line.

Currently, I have been using this Bath & Body Works cleanser & lotion called Rice, which I am not certain they make anymore. But I do not particularly like the smell of the product, although it hasn't clogged my pores, so I will continue using it for the time-being. For my acne, I used Nicomide gel/cream samples that my dermatologist had given me. They didn't help w/ my acne. So I switched the Nicomide with DDF 5% Benzoyl Peroxide Gel w/ Tea Tree Oil. The bottle is much bigger than I had expected (2 oz, which looks like it will last me awhile). I have only used it one day, so I do not see any difference yet, but I have not dried out. I will continue this treatment for about a month to see if there are any improvements & I will update again.

I have purchased a few other products that I read had good reviews. I will be trying them in the near future:

-Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel

-Ayur-Medic Clearifying Cream for Acne Prone Skin

-Dr.Hauschka Skin Care Normalizing Day Oil

-ARCONA AM Acne Lotion, Repair AM
