Day 24: Healing.

Hi guys,

So it's been a while since I've posted. For me, this is a good thing - it means I haven't been obsessing over my face haha

My PD has been doing better, I've started using my cleanser and my moisturizer again like I used to. I'm still on the antibiotics so I'm hoping those will fight off the last of it. It seems to be doing much much better but I'm left with these horrible red marks. They're just on my chin and the skin seems to be slightly bumpy, not a whole lot, just uneven. Does anyone have any good recommendations for red marks? Preferably something that won't aggravate PD.

Looks like I should be better by the new year though, which is good!! I'll hopefully find time to keep posting and filling you in with my recovery.

Day 13: I see a light.

Hi everyone,

So it's been a couple days since I've been using the ACV and I've seen pretty good results. It's been a little aggravating on the open sores of my PD (which aren't big at all) but the ACV causes some weeping still in some areas if it's not diluted enough. For the most part though, it's looking better and drying up and flaking off nicely!

I've also been using my moisturizer after the ACV and this has seemed to help tremendously too.

Went to the doc today to get another two weeks of Mino - for that extra kick. I want to nip this rash in the bud so it never comes back.

Day 9: Good Morning.

So, after a long battle with myself, I decided to leave the yogurt alone. I went back to ACV, after talking with some people, I figured I'm going to try it for longer than a day haha

This time though, I've diluted it 50/50 with water. It definitely doesn't sting as much, doesn't really sting at all... And this morning is looked a lot less red all over, just the main pimples were red. So, here's hoping.

I'm also back at work this week, time to face this evil world!!

Day 8: Stand Still.

So my face seems to be going nowhere. Nowhere terrible but nowhere good either.

I'm kind of at the point where I feel like I should just leave it. Wash with water only. Put nothing on it. At least for this last week while I'm on antibiotics. I have a feeling I'm going to be on them longer though. :redface:

I actually just recently washed with my cleanser (which I've been avoiding), then I put moisturizer on some parts. This should be interesting.

I fucking hate my skin.


ps. it would be great to have suggestions.


Still day 6: Barely.


So I've been crying (not skin related), and I realized a new pimple popped up. It's not huge but jesus does stress really trigger this skin condition. It got me thinking, I just broke up with my boyfriend... about a month or two ago, could this be the trigger? Maybe this plus the change in weather? So much to think about.

Just put some yogurt on. Feels good.

I've also been thinking, maybe it's the dry skin that's creating tiny clogged pores? I haven't been using anything on my face other than the yogurt, maybe I should start using my moisturizer? there's an idea. Again, so much to think about.

I think I need more big Bang Theory and sleep. That should do it.

Day 6:

Hello hello,

Today is a much better day. I think the reason my PD looked more upset yesterday is because I let the yogurt on my face dry out too long. When it does, it gets super hard to move your face and kinda hurts. SO - helpful tip if using yogurt: either use it as a face wash or leave it on till it's semi-hardened.

Today seems better, the marks are definitely a lighter pink, still a little bumpy. I can see some bumps that are more or less just dead skin healing (scabs) but I still see some pimple like bumps, they're sort of under the skin and super tiny.

The area in which my face used to be red has grown much much smaller, so I'm hoping by keeping my simple regimen that it only improves from here. I'm surprised though since it has only been 6 days, I like this improvement. Now I just wish I knew what was helping more, the yogurt or the Mino?

I'm not going to lie, the org is pretty boring when you're talking to yourself.



Day 5: le sigh.

Today feels sort of like a stand still.

You know when you get your hopes up so much, thinking oh hell yes it's finally going away! Then days like today hit you where it seems like it just got slightly worse. Could totally be my imagination, but I noticed a new pimple in the area, I haven't touched it but it just make it seem worse. Mino is suppose to suppress the pimples not form them! Oh well.

Still, I guess I should look on the bright side, it does look like it's getting better-ish. I'm not really sure where to go from here though. The yogurt has been good but it's drying out my skin. I'm not sure if I should start using my moisturizer again... I'm very very hesitant. I was thinking of maybe doing the yogurt, washing my face, then applying moisturizer. I JUST DON'T KNOW! Someone help a sista out :redface:

Maybe I'll do a little more research? I know a lot of people put stuff on their PD but I always just figured, leave it alone, let it heal naturally, if anything.

Day 4:

Today I shall name peeling day, since my whole chin just about peeled off. BUT - it doesn't seem like such a bad thing. I know I shouldn't play with my PD but I can't help but pick off the massive flakes. So that's exactly what I did, and then applied some yogurt.

Anywho - I feel good right now. Or rather, my chin feels 'soothed'. I hope I didn't peel too much off or peel skin off before the skin under it has heeled (we've all done that before :redface: ) I'm not sure if it's the Mino working or the yogurt (or yes, perhaps both) that's speeding up my heeling but both together seem to be working wonders. I know I don't want to speak too soon and then have everything go to shit BUT I'm actually kind happy with the way things are going.

Anyone with PD I highly recommend trying yogurt (even if it doesn't work, you have nothing to lose).

I've also been taking pictures with my phone, now I'm not sure if i'm going to upload them (I'm lazy) but it's been helping me keep track of how the heeling is going. I recommend anyone going through a certain regimen to have a blog and take pictures because it really does help to see if you're on the right track.

I'm sad to say though that I'm still ashamed to go outside. I know my scabs don't look as bad as I think but it's one of those things I just don't want to do anything till it's completely gone. Now I know that's unrealistic haha and I have to go back to work next week BUT maybe by then it will look SIGNIFICANTLY better. Fingers crossed.

Back to some good old movie watching. I seem to be talking to myself, which is fine LOL I hope this blog helps someone down the road though.




Day 3:

So this day 3 of my healing. I'm going to use the word healing since I'm really praying that's what's happening.

I have lots of little updates though:

1. I've stopped using the ACV - it was really aggravating my PD, making it red and angry looking (and I'm not dealing with that, which sucks)

2. I've started using yogurt on the affected areas. It's just plain probiotic yogurt, bought from Safeway or something.. When I put it on the PD oh my god does it feel good! It's sooo soothing and I've found that it has been helpful with my flaking. It does dry out my skin, but it's ok becuase I'm not putting anything on my face other than yogurt and water. I think this is the best route to go while the anti B's kick in.

3. I've taken 5 Mino pills, still no significant results.

4. PD sucks.

Anyways, I guess that's not so much now that I write it out. I guess I've had a lot of time to think since I haven't been out much with this rash on my face. Ugh. I just have to keep telling myself it's only day 3! SO - with that being said I'm signing off.

Hey all, (or whoever reads this?)

About a year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Perioral Dermatitis. At first I had no freakin' idea what was going on but after enough research and putting enough crap on my face, I finally got it under control. I was PD free for a while... Until now.

SO - It came back did it? Yes. But it hasn't been terrible. I knew the minute I started getting tiny bumps on my chin. I started to pick and play with them, which obviously only made things worse, which led to having PD all over again. YAY!

Anyways, I'd love to show you pictures but I don't have a camera right now. I'll get on it don't worry. But, the rash has basically just developed on my chin - The sides of my chin to be exact. It looks red and splotchy with a few bumps here and there. Like I said, the first time I had it was WAY worse, I kind of blame myself though, always picking at it and creating open sores. This time, I've handled it better, I haven't picked much, so it basically just looks red-pink like.

I'm not sure what has cause other people PD but I know for mine, it's definitely the change in weather. If my skin gets way to dry, that's when I get PD. And here in lovely Vancouver, the weather suddenly went cold, it snowed, and yay I get dehydrated. But yeah, I'm interested in how others seem to get their PD?

Long story short, I've hit up my doc, he's given me more anti B's to calm the situation and I'm writing this blog to keep track of all the things I'm doing during the day, and basically just to see if progress is being made. If anyone out there is actually reading this, I'd love to hear from you! So don't be shy, let's chat about our uncomfortable and ridiculous rashes together!

Day 1 -

I just took my first pill (Minocycline 50mg), obviously I haven't seen much change, since it's only been about an hour haha from what I've been reading you usually don't see any change until a week or two. My doc said my PD looked mild so I'm only on Mino for two weeks total.

In regards to a regimen that I have, I wash my face with the same cleanser I've used most of my life, it's Arbonne, and it's from the F5 line (I think that's what it's called?), I also dab a bit of ACV (apple cider vinegar) on it morning and night after I wash. I've also just recently started this so I can update you with how that works as well, I know there's been lost of debate as to weather ACV actually works or not. Lastly, I use a simple Cetaphil moisturizer. I've used it for a quite a while now, and I love it. I do put a little on my PD just to keep it from being uncomfortable.
