Started Accutance Oct 31, 2007.
So I got my prescription, and my Dr. told me that most likely I will wake up with dry lips the day after I start. So I went to Wal-Mart and loaded up on the small travel vaseline tubes and chapstick. I loaded my lips up that night just incase, cause if theres anything I hate it's chapped lips! Good thing cause after I washed up and brushed my teeth, I did notice that they were starting to get dry. This stuff kicks in fast!
There are a few things that I have learned. Continue to ALWAYS use something on your lips. Reapply right after eating! They do get dry fast. I also found that after a few days my face started to dry up. I was out on the weekend playing football and never thought of putting sunscreen on...My forehead and nose got quite red...and sore. Mental note for next week... SUNSCREEN!! My face has gotten very dry and my neck line is starting to get a bit itchy. After washing my face at night, I load up with cream right after washing as it keeps the moisture in. I waited one night and it started to get all tight and dry... I used a washcloth to get all the dead skin off as it was peeling off when I was washing it with my hands. I think I will go buy baby washcloths as they will be more gentle on my face.
WEEK 2 (Nov 14th)
Lips are very dry without something on them. My 1st choice is vaseline. They come in a small tube that I have one in my purse, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. I make sure that I apply right after I eat as my lips feel so icky once I finish eating, and you can go to the mirror and almost see them getting dry right in front of your eyes! Reapply often, very often. I don't give them the chance to dry out at all. Again, I HATE chapped lips and so far I've been good.
I've noticed that my skin is getting drier all over. Face requires some light exfoliation to get rid of the dead skin. At night after washing my face, I load up with cream to keep it moist through the night. I think this helps, and I don't wake up dry or oily.
I also have found that my hair doesn't need to be washed as often. It doesn't get anywhere near as oily as it used to. I do have a bit of flakiness on my scalp, but nothing to serious. Let's hope it doesn't. My face is nowwhere near as oily and it seems to really be drying up. Any new "enemies" that pop up seem to stay for a shorter period of time then they used to. I'm so glad that I am a woman and am able to use makeup to cover up the ugliness. It hides the redness and doesn't look so bad. I'm sure it's WAY too early to see any progress. I've also had a few headaches this week. Not sure if it is related at all, but thought I'd mention it.
One other thing I've noticed is that my nose is starting to get dry inside as well. I'll have to figure something out for that.
The not drinking while on the meds can be tough to deal with. People asking if I'm pregnant and such because I'm not drinking. I don't talk about my acne with anyone, and I don't think it's anyones business that I am taking accutane so I have come up with a number of excuses that seem to work for now. With the holidays coming it's going to be tough to deal with...not too mention that I'm just about to start going through a divorce that no one knows about either...
I am going to try to update my progress once a week and provide pics. This is just my catch up inital blog. I have pics I need to load onto my computer and then I will post them. I want to be able to see the weekly progress and want to share it with others who are considering taking accutane and to those who start after me. I found it very helpful to read other blogs to know what I was getting into.
Till next week...
