looking for a new me

Ok,

This entry is going to be a little bit about the last week and about the last few weeks.

I saw the dr. today. She says everything is good. I have 2 "enemies" that just showed up last night, but again when I saw the dr, she asked if it's the womanly time of the month, and it will be in a couple of days, and she said that's probably why. Same thing happened last month so I guess I should be getting used to this monthly mini breakout. I guess it's better then what it was before!

So the last month I have been getting mini nosebleeds. Mostly in the mornings when I wake up and blow my nose. This is like a morning ritual. I've also noticed that while I am at work, and it gets dry, same thing happens. When I say mini nosebleed, I really mean mini. Like it's not a drip down my face nosebleed, but it is there. So my eyes, well, they are feeling MUCH better then they were before. They don't seem to be as red, but I am using the medication that I got for this. I'm not using it as often, probably about half of what they prescribe. There are times that they seem to burn a little, but again, I just deal with it. It goes away.

Skin, I've been getting some weird rash on my hands mainly. It comes and goes. I also have some rough patches that I asked the dr. about today and she said it's just an excema and I need to keep moist. It's mainly on the top of my hands and on my forearm area, so I will try to keep it moist and see if it goes away again.

Hmmm, am I forgetting something? I hope not. I'm falling asleep at the computer, so if I think of anything, I'll add it in, or wait till the next post.

Till next week...

looking for a new me

Hello All,

Well, let's say these past few weeks have been eventful. I was unable to post for a bit but I'm back again.

So - updates...

As I mentioned before in a previous post, I was having some eye issues. So I ended up having to go to a walk-in clinic one day as my eye was red and gross looking (it looked like pink eye). So I was then directed to go to an optometrist right away to get my eye looked at. When I was there, thankfully the Walk-in Dr. wrote urgent on the forms and I was able to get in within 20 mins... however, this was a little alarming of course that it was marked urgent. After seeing this eye Dr, I was then told that I should see an Ophthamalagist for a presription to get rid of this infection or what ever it is. She said it also seemed like the oil glands on my eyelids were sort of blocked. Weird. So becuase of being on the accutane she thought it was best to see a specialist to see what should be prescribed. So 1 week later I had my appointment. Of course the redness had gone done, but the morning sticky eyes, and crustys were still there. Apparently I have what is called Blepharitis. I think this is caused by dry eyes. (Could be from the Accutane?) I don't feel like my eyes are dry, but I did find that putting a warm compress on them at night was helpful, and felt good too. So if any one has eye issues, go see a Dr. I was given a prescription eye drop that seems to help a lot. No more redness and the mornings are pretty good. I do have a gel presription that I also put in my eyes at night and I think this helps a lot with the dryness.

So today I had my blood taken. It still doens't get any easier... My appointment with the Dr is next week and I'm looking forward to it.

My face is so much better it's really still hard to believe. I can't believe how far I've come and I still almost don't want to stop taking the pills cause I'm worried about what will happen afterwards. I still need to post pics... I will try my hardest this weekend but I'm in the middle of moving and don't have access as easy as I did before. You all really have to see the new pics!

I have to go for the night, but will try to post new stuff next week after my appointment.

Good luck to all!

Till next time...

looking for a new me

This past week was fairly uneventful. Although I did have one little "enemy" pop up. I think it's cause of that womanly time of the month. It didn't last long at all.

This is a quick short one, as not much else has changed. All the same stuff.

My face is starting to look great!

Till next week...

looking for a new me

I'm a bit late on this posting.

Well, I was still having some dry eye issues, that I figured was related to the accutane so I was trying some Visine at night and in the mornings. I think this was making my eyes worse. I have been getting stys for the last few weeks and never thought that it would have anything to do with the Accutane. Still don't know if it is related at all.... I have stopped using the Visine and my eyes are better in the mornings again. Still a bit dry, but not stuck together like before and not blurry or gooey in the mornings when I wake up. I know that's gross, but just thought I'd mention incase someone else has the same issues... I haven't been wearing my contact lenses since I think this was aggrevating them as well. So lucky me gets to wear glasses everyday! I hate them. I think I will start to wear my contacts again in the next couple of days and see how it goes. Who knows, maybe it's something else that's causing me issues.

My body is still not overly dry. I mean it's not really flaky or anything. Just a bit dry feeling. Use lotions and it's all good.

I did get one "enemy" this week. It was like a weird thing. I haven't been getting them often so it's weird to see one now! I still haven't had a chance to upload pics, but I will, one of these days.

Went to a nice restaurant this week for dinner. REALLY wanted to have a glass of wine with dinner... of course, it's a no go till I'm done the drugs.

I also want to take a vacation somewhere hot. I know that while taking the Accutane the skin is not the same... I remember that my face got a bit burned in the late fall when I was outside for a long period of time so I'm worried about going somewhere hot. Good thing it's the winter, although typically people have dry skin in the winter and I guess the Accutane makes it worse. I'd rather it be dry then burn it and have to worry about it healing properly and quickly. So my vacation is on hold till I'm ready to go in the sun and of course lay on the beach with a tropical beverage (or two).

The end is near!

To all those just starting or in the early stages of Accutane... keep your head up, it gets better, MUCH better.

Till next week...

So, I'm still going strong and on the road to recovery!

I was looking at the pictures from the day I started and holy geeze I can't believe how much better it looks and feels! I need to post some more updated pics, just need to find the time.

So this past week has been good. Well, I had a couple of nosebleeds, but they were small and didn't last long. I really hate them.

I did have one small "enemy" pop up but I'm sure it was because of the fact that I didn't wash my face for two nights. I washed it in the mornings, but not before going to bed. Then again I didn't sleep much and eating patterns we messed up too... so that's over with and got back on track right away and all is good again!

I did however get a cold Tuesday night... It got pretty bad at work Wednesday and I confirmed with my doctor that I was able to take some kind of drug to help sleep. I LOVE NYQUIL. She said it was ok to take so I took it that night and slept pretty well. Using the Dayquil as well and it's all good.

Skin is still dry, and I noticed my scalp getting a bit drier too... could be cause I didn't rinse the conditioner out too well so next time I wash it I'll see what happens. Not a big deal anyway.

Eyes continue to be dry - it's tough opening my eyes in the morning... guess it's only for a little while longer. It's worth it isn't it??

Something I have been wanting is a glass of red wine, and a shot of baileys! Oh well...

Till next week...

looking for a new me

This is going to be a short one.

This past week has been another good one! I've received a few comments about how my face is looking really good. One was of course from my mother... the others were from people who don't even know that I'm on accutane!

Nothing new has popped up, skin is dry, but manageable. Hair is dry, but again, I love it! I can still go days without washing it and it looks great! Eyes, still dry in the morning. I try to remove my contact lenses when I get home from work or if I have them in too long. I also a using Visine at night to keep them moist, but I'm not sure that it helps...

It's coming along nicely and I'm looking forward to the end result!

Till next week...

looking for a new me

Well, this last week was MUCH better than the previous week.

I saw my Dr. and she was very impressed with the results so far and said that you would't even know I was on the drug. My lips look great and my skin isn't dry looking at all. Of course I saw her first thing in the morning and my face looks the best then. Especially with the oh so great makeup!

I hada revelation this week as I was talking to my mom about my progress. I realized that I hadn't had any cysts on the chin line in weeks! This is awesome! They were the most annoying, and sometimes painful things, as I'm sure most of you can relate to. I'm starting to see improvement and my face is feeling smoother more often. ;)

I've tried some nasal gel.... Secaris... I don't think it's working well, but I will try it for a few more days and see if is actually doing anything. I think I prefer to use vaseline. Seems to keep it moist longer, especially overnight. I'll give it a few more tries... I'm also looking for some nasal spray that should help, so when I find the one I"m looking for I'm going to start squirting away and hope it helps.

Eyes are still dry.... Dr. suggested eye drops so I bought some yesterday. Helped a little bit last night, we'll see how it goes tomorrow morning.

Till next week...

looking for a new me

Well, I think this has been one of the worst weeks so far. I got a nosebleed yesterday! I must have been a wee child the last time I had one, cause I don't even remember it. Thankfully it wasn't a bad one, but none the less, scary for someone who hasn't had one in MANY years...

The lips have been giving me some issues this week... well the corners of my lips anyway. The lip lube doesn't seem to stay on so well there and they peel - just the corners. I guess it doesn't help that I sometimes pull the skin off, does it? What else do I do with it? I make sure I load up on lip stuff at night hoping it fixes itself. I guess I could also stop snacking so much at work since eating does rub it off and I try to put more on but can't always do it so quickly. I think talking wears it off as well, and if you knew me, it's hard to stop that sometimes too.

My face is gross this week as well. I don't think I need to expand on this part... a few (like 4) new "enemies" have appeared and they weren't little ones. Of course, like many of you out there... I picked one (ok maybe 2) of them. Just waiting for them to go away now. Oh and I'm going to finally post some updated pics. I think it was getting better, and now it seems to have gotten worse this week.. hopefully back on track again next week.

I've also noticed my scalp starting to flake a bit... pain in the butt of course, but not too bad.

The dryness of my skin overall has increased too. I make sure that after I shower I basically scrub myself dry with the towel to get rid of all the dead skin. It's like when you have a tan/sunburn and a few days later in the shower you start to peel away. Gross - I know. Then I load up on the lotion. Hard to reach some areas on my back, but I do my best alone!

I have also noticed that I've been rather sore lately... not sure if it's related to Accutane or not since I am invloved in physical sports and have lots of aches and pains to begin with, but right now I'm not really involved in anything that would cause me discomfort. So we'll see what happens. I have read somewhere that it can cause joint pain, does anyone else have ths problem?

I also have found my eyes to be dry still. Mostly in the mornings I notice this.

Went for the dreaded blood test as well... so again it wasn't a good week for me. ;)

Till next week...

looking for a new me

So this last week seemed to start off real well. No issues and the redness seemed to being going down as well. Then I was going through some serious stress and I think that's caused a few of the "enemies" to come back. A couple of small ones, and a couple of bigger ones. They don't seem to last too long and again, makeup helps cover them up.

I can't stress how important it is to keep the lips moist. I went shopping today and forgot to reapply till I got to the car, and they were already showing signs of peeling.

I have noticed that my eyes are drier as well. The mornings is when I notice it the most. I haven't been wearing my contacts for the last few days just to give them a break. Guess I should look at getting some good eye drops for contact lenses.

That's all I got for now.

Till next week...

looking for a new me

Well, I'm happy to report that there has still been no big breakouts! ;)

Starting to get a little drier, but could also be because it's getting colder and dryer here. But having good cream/lotion is key. The corner of my lips get drier than the rest of them, but I am trying to keep on top of it. ALWAYS KEEP LIPS MOIST. I can't believe how quickly they start to dry just after I wash my face or after I eat. Gotta load up on lip stuff RIGHT after I eat. Oh well, it's a small price to pay for the outcome afterwards!

Went to a xmas party and of course, didn't drink one alcholic beverage! It was weird that's for sure. I'm interested to see how New Years is going to go since most people don't know that I'm on Accutane and they wonder why I haven't been drinking.

So the nose is still dry... that would be my only complaint. It doesn't feel like it's getting better, but I guess it doesn't help that I am constantly worrying about it and that it runs because of the cold, and dries out with the cold air. Again, just something I have to deal with till the time comes!

I have still been taking weekly pics, I just need to sit my butt down at the computer and upload them.

Till next week.

looking for a new me

So this is the first full week at 60mg. I don't see a lot of changes happening yet. The inside of my nose is still dry and annoying. I've been using the humidifier and I'm not sure if it really is helping, but I guess it's also not hurting either.

I've had a few more "enemies" pop up this week... no serious breakouts or anything, just the usual issues.

;) Not much else to say this week.

Till next week...

looking for a new me

I had my 1 month check up with my Dr. yesterday and she increased my dose from 40mg to 60mg. She said that one thing I will start to notice with the increase is that my skin will get a lot drier. So far since last week, there hasn't been much change again. I think that next week I'm anitcipating that there will be some changes with the increase. I'm hoping for better changes, not worse of course. This past week the dryness inside of my nose has started to get very irritating. I picked up a humidifier last night so I will use it tonight for the first time and see how it goes.

Oh and I have to say that I LOVE not having to wash my hair as often!!

Till next week...

looking for a new me

So nothing new has really changed or happend this past week. The only thing that I am noticing is that the inside of my nose is becoming very dry and sore. I know that there are sprays and such, but I really don't want to go that route. (Anyone have any suggestions?) I was thinking of getting a humidifier for my bedroom since the worst is usually when I wake up in the morning and I thought the moisture in the air overnight might help.

My face is still dry, some days worse than others, but the redness is not so bad. Makeup covers that really well, but doesn't cover the "enemies" as well.

Started Accutance Oct 31, 2007.

So I got my prescription, and my Dr. told me that most likely I will wake up with dry lips the day after I start. So I went to Wal-Mart and loaded up on the small travel vaseline tubes and chapstick. I loaded my lips up that night just incase, cause if theres anything I hate it's chapped lips! Good thing cause after I washed up and brushed my teeth, I did notice that they were starting to get dry. This stuff kicks in fast!

There are a few things that I have learned. Continue to ALWAYS use something on your lips. Reapply right after eating! They do get dry fast. I also found that after a few days my face started to dry up. I was out on the weekend playing football and never thought of putting sunscreen on...My forehead and nose got quite red...and sore. Mental note for next week... SUNSCREEN!! My face has gotten very dry and my neck line is starting to get a bit itchy. After washing my face at night, I load up with cream right after washing as it keeps the moisture in. I waited one night and it started to get all tight and dry... I used a washcloth to get all the dead skin off as it was peeling off when I was washing it with my hands. I think I will go buy baby washcloths as they will be more gentle on my face.

WEEK 2 (Nov 14th)

Lips are very dry without something on them. My 1st choice is vaseline. They come in a small tube that I have one in my purse, one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen. I make sure that I apply right after I eat as my lips feel so icky once I finish eating, and you can go to the mirror and almost see them getting dry right in front of your eyes! Reapply often, very often. I don't give them the chance to dry out at all. Again, I HATE chapped lips and so far I've been good.

I've noticed that my skin is getting drier all over. Face requires some light exfoliation to get rid of the dead skin. At night after washing my face, I load up with cream to keep it moist through the night. I think this helps, and I don't wake up dry or oily.

I also have found that my hair doesn't need to be washed as often. It doesn't get anywhere near as oily as it used to. I do have a bit of flakiness on my scalp, but nothing to serious. Let's hope it doesn't. My face is nowwhere near as oily and it seems to really be drying up. Any new "enemies" that pop up seem to stay for a shorter period of time then they used to. I'm so glad that I am a woman and am able to use makeup to cover up the ugliness. It hides the redness and doesn't look so bad. I'm sure it's WAY too early to see any progress. I've also had a few headaches this week. Not sure if it is related at all, but thought I'd mention it.

One other thing I've noticed is that my nose is starting to get dry inside as well. I'll have to figure something out for that.

The not drinking while on the meds can be tough to deal with. People asking if I'm pregnant and such because I'm not drinking. I don't talk about my acne with anyone, and I don't think it's anyones business that I am taking accutane so I have come up with a number of excuses that seem to work for now. With the holidays coming it's going to be tough to deal with...not too mention that I'm just about to start going through a divorce that no one knows about either...

I am going to try to update my progress once a week and provide pics. This is just my catch up inital blog. I have pics I need to load onto my computer and then I will post them. I want to be able to see the weekly progress and want to share it with others who are considering taking accutane and to those who start after me. I found it very helpful to read other blogs to know what I was getting into.

Till next week...
